I used frequently (every week or two) catch a bus to and from Albany and New York Cuty. The New York City bus stop was right by Korea town. So the first thing I did arriving in NYC was to eat a Korean meal and the last thing I did before departing was but some Korean take-out. This video made me nostalgic for those days and that great food. This video is very helpful to up my skills and techniques in bringing these delightful tastes into my home kitchen and on to my table.

If you don't have any Asian pear or kiwi lying around? Just grab a can of sprite. Actually that is what most Korean BBQ restaurants prefer to do, even the classy traditional ones, in Korea. It tenderizes meat a lot more than pear or kiwi and by far sweeter not to mention cheaper

In Korea we usually mix the shit out of that egg in the Soondubu Jjigae, it makes the stew almost creamy. Try it next time for sure, and dip some sticky rice in it too (kind of like how in other countries they dip bread in soup). So glad you guys are loving Korean food!

I’m a Korean fan who loves to cook and your recipes are super impressive :) They look so yummy!! Some extra tips: 1. Pancake - try using cold/icy water or even carbonated water (and hot pan) to make it extra crispy. You can also add garlic powder, onion powder etc to make it more flavourful. 2. Rice cake dish - we usually make the broth/sauce first (w kelp or dried anchovy + gochujang + syrup) and then put rice cake in, often with fish cakes too. That way it has more umami taste. Even if rice cakes are kept frozen, they cook nicely in the broth at the end & dont get too droopy. 3. Bak Choy is more a Chinese veggie - but Korean restos in North America use them cuz its easily accessible. Try some Korean “나물 Namul (edible grass/herbs)” because they are sooooo flavorful and fragrant. My recommendations are “곤드레 gon-deu-rae” or “취나물 chwee-na-mul” and you may be able to find them dried at bigger Korean supermarkets. You can just soak them & stir fry, or blanch and mix with sauces. So good. 4. The type of bibimbap you made is called “Dolsot Bibimbap” (hot stone pot bibimbap) but there are so many other types of bibimbap too (it just means “mixed rice” and has hundreds of varieties). My recommendations are: sea urchin bibimbap, cod roe bibimbap, raw beef bibimbap, and cockle bibimbap. These use super Korean ingredients (which you may or may not be able to find) but they are out of this world! :) Thanks always for great videos & looking forward to more Korean cooking videos from you! hope u can come visit Korea someday!! :)

I have to say, y'all are an inspiration to young people to learn to cook for themselves, and enjoy the process. I have been cooking and learning for a long time, but have learned a lot from you both. Like the fact that you use a lot of veg.and eat pretty healthy. 👍🏻 The added bonus is that y'all are funny, and make my day! Thanks:)

The spicy rice cakes are called "dduk bok ki" which translates to fried rice cakes. It is one of my favorite foods growing up! The rice cake you used is typically seen in "dduk guk" which is a rice cake soup (traditionally eaten in the new years). I would suggest using the longer rice cakes (more common in dduk bok ki) and starting with boiling water and adding yellow onion, Korean pepper paste, soy sauce, sugar, garlic, salt, pepper, and fishcakes to make sort of a broth (Korean anchovy too if you want) . Then add the rice cakes to the broth and let them cook in the broth. Also you can add a hard boiled egg (my favorite way) and green onions on top.

I love how kimchi, red pepper paste and bean paste is different from each family if they still make it. its easy making our own sauces that last years. hundreds brands of red pepper flakes and powder. geez i love how you used the cast iron...so much more flavorful....

What I like about this video format (i.e. long video going through the cooking process) is that it gives some idea of how long it'll actually take to cook. Most videos will say, "Cook on both sides for about 2 minutes" and they'll just cut to a fully cooked side being flipped, and then immediately to what it looks like when that step is done. I understand why it's done that way, and it works, but this is entertaining and shows everything.

Watching the video see how long it took for y'all to break out the gochujang. I swear, if anyone asked me one ingredient that isn't traditional to western cooking that they should definitely try (ignoring things like soy sauce that have already found their place in western cooking), my response would be gochujang. I use it as a quick fix for any dish with a tomato base that doesn't have enough depth. The family favorite is marinara braised chicken thighs. And one time I did a side-by-side with and without the gochujang and proved to my family that my quirky little addition made the dish so much better.

I've been enjoying your videos since midnight munchies and as I'm Korean I can't help but leave a comment, these are all looking amazing! I'm currently studying in London so I can't get Korean food as much as I would like but after watching this video the next stop for me would be an asian supermarket so I can cook em up at home :) I will say though, your method of cooking the spicy rice cakes (we call them tteok-bokki) was really interesting! It seems much simpler your way but normally we would cook the sauce over the hob and then add in the rice cake directly into the sauce to cook it. The sauce is normally water, gochujang, red chilli flakes, sugar and some soy sauce, but I recommend replacing the water with some stock boiled with some kelp and Korean anchovies call myeol-chi; it adds a great depth of flavour :) I'll definitely be trying your way of cooking it! Thank you so much for this video, it brought so much fuzziness into my home sick Korean heart xx
