Ive really enjoyed your tutorials. A lot of them say they are for beginners, but in fact, these are good for experienced artists, who have perhaps taken a break and need a tune up, because things get forgotten and bad habits can creep in.

Whenever I draw a face, I usually end up with the character's face on the page / sheet with flaring nostrils and big lips. The character usually ends up looking like a caricature version of itself.

I did follow two of your videos about drawing face, and the first one I did was made one year ago. I did this one after, which was made 2 years ago and I see you changed the way you teach it. This is easier on the most recent video. On this one, if you mess the global silhouette, it's over.

Heya Scottie! You've really inspired me to start sketching and I've done a couple of ones now and while I don't stress to much about my alien claw hands... :) I DO stress about shoes. I cannot seem to get shoes right. They are always in weird angles or directions or top down views or from the sole up when the foot is tilted while sitting, just to name a few weird things we do with our shoes! Could you maybe make an indepth video about how you tackle shoes? Maybe it's too specific but I'm sure I can't be the only one struggling with it :)

I love your style and the fact that you undergo the process in a short time and enjoy it. I've always loved drawing and I've dedicated some time to it during my childhood and adolescence, but honestly I got frustrated that the end result wouldn't always be what I expected Then I stated studying it a little and I realized there was so many things to it and drawing started looking harder to me and I got downhearted about having to draw so many circles and guide lines. At first it was interesting and fun, but later I got frustrated once again Seeing how you draw motivates me to give it a try once again. I have a good sense of proportion and spacing now due to all those boring circles and guidelines and I guess your way of drawing will suit my anxiety. Any intentions of making a course on the future? Props to you man, your work is amazing
@SketchingScottie
@SketchingScottie 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing Danilo! Yes I know what you mean. It takes many many hours to master drawing as a tradition fine art so that's why I have explored these sketching techniques as an alternative. Taking simple principles from the masters and applying them to expressive, free flowing sketching. It's more about the experience of sketching rather than getting everything 'right'. I have plans to create a course next year as I'll have some more time 😊

That dot method is a revelation for me. When I go in straight with pen (as I am known to do because I don't like dealing with graphite smudging) I tend to just eyeball it, wing it, and cross my fingers lmao. Sometimes it turns out good, sometimes it doesn't. I try not to be too precious about my ink sketches anyway though, If I really cared about making something that looked pretty I would use pencil underneath!
@SketchingScottie
@SketchingScottie 2 жыл бұрын
😊good idea. Yes pencil underneath is great for more realistic or polished works. For these more quick sketches I've tried to add in enough structure while keeping it very loose👍🏼

think of it as sketching the shadows rather than outlines of each shape. Less is more in this case. The viewers eye can fill in the rest. Outlining the lips/ eyes or nose completely doesn't look very nice in my opinion 😊

You're right, sketching this way is more for quick and loose portraits with simple line work. Each took me only about 5 minutes. If you want more accurate proportions and a more detailed style then you can sketch the way you do or draw some pencil construction first before the final line work 👍🏼
