Also don’t forget to order a 2.5mm x 10 trigger adjuster screw for the gx40 to get a lighter trigger pull on the second stage, don’t forget to bang the but end of the gun to make sure it doesn’t go off when cocked my gx40 trigger is great now. If you want to add a bipod to the gx40 remove the action and there’s already a small tube to drill down from the inside of the stock I used a 4mm drill bit but check your particular swivel stud.

I'm not new to airguns, in my earlier years, Springers, but recently bought online, my first PCP, a BSA Ultra CLX .177. It came fitted with a FREE scope, a Hawke Eclipse, but out of the box, the gun was shooting 7 inches right and 2 inches high, at 10 yds. This was in my back garden limited to 25 yds. I could get the height down OK, but was unable to move the cross hairs far enough left onto the targets center. After going through all the resetting procedure, from the Hawke website, the scope would not adjust enough left before running out of adjustment. I bought a new Hawke Vantage IR 4-12X50, and, from watching one of your other videos, a set of BKL mounts. After fitting the new scope and mounts, I easily set the gun up to hit the middle of the target at 20 yds. At age 87, my eyesight is not good, so I am quite pleased with the results. I just wanted to say how much I enjoy watching your excellent videos, I wish I had found them earlier, before I bought my first PCP.

I would also recommend cleaning the barrel before firing any pellets. Most new barrels will come with a factory coating to protect them from rusting whilst in storage. This can be thick and sticky, causing problems with power levels and accuracy. Once barrel is clean I would then recommend 'leading in' the barrel. This is achieved by firing a good few rounds down the barrel and is sometimes referred to as seasoning the barrel. To stay within the laws of your country, a chronograph would be a must have. All sounds a bit complicated but rest assured there are plenty of videos, even on this channel that will explain these procedures in depth. Happy shooting newbies, and try not to injure or kill anyone as it looks bad on the rest of us😂😂

Great video as always Andy. No matter how experienced we think we are I've found there's always something to learn. I'm pretty much a newbie myself - having just ordered my first PCP - but would like to add/amend a couple suggestions for scope mounting. I've watched and read what must be hundreds of instructions/tutorials on fitting a scope and this is now my favoured method. 1. sit the bottom scope mount(s) on a flat, level surface - using a spirit level. 2. sit the scope on top of the mount and loosely attach the top scope mount(s). 3. either focus the scope on a vertical surface, wall or window - or attach a weight to some string to make a plumb line and hang this up several feet in front of the scope. 4. look into the scope and ensure that the reticle aligns with the vertical line you're using. 5. tighten the top mounts down. 6. drop the whole assembly onto the gun rail and tighten up the scope mounts. Assuming the scope rail on your gun is perfectly horizontal there should be no issues with cant. No doubt others will have a method that improves on this.

@@AAROnair Apologies, should have watched your scope set-up video first - as usual very helpful and easy to follow! I've just acquired my first pcp - Air Arms S510R - and rewatched your very helpful guide before doing anything. One question: the Air Arms filler fitting doesn't have a rubber washer on the threaded end. Should I fit one - or does it's absence indicate it's not needed?

Best airgun REVIEW channel on the tube .. keeping it real for beginners and seasoned shooters alike .. a few reviewers have lost there way recently , peddling expensive wares for the minority , and subsequently lining there own pockets in the process , yes I like to see reviews ( occasionally ) on high end rifles and kit , got no problem with that , buts lets not forget , especially in these harder times , not everyone can afford £1000+ guns and accessories . .. great vid on what looks like a superb ( affordable .. ish ) package , great work young Andy .. keep up the good work / format / content ..

Hi Andy, I'm binge-watching all your videos after founding my Diana 24 that was hidden since last century 😄 I love all the new technology and the knowledge you share - plus your tone is very enjoyable. I'm happy that you have so many subscribers, your channel is so valuable ! Still, I think you reversed the way to zero the scope. I think the correct way is like this : you aim for the center, fire, lock the rifle steady aiming the center, and then move the crosshairs (using the adjusters) over the hole... otherwise you're doubling the error ! ( at 15:20 you explain to aim at the hole and move the crosshairs to the center). Cheers from Switzerland !

It's my first PCP but not my first air rifle and from my experience of springers I decided to clean the barrel before using it. I found a brilliant scope mounting tip some years ago which will work on any air rifle. Mount the scope in roughly the right position but don’t fully tighten any of the screws. Now with your eyes CLOSED bring the rifle up to your shooting position. With the rifle still in your shoulder open your eyes. If you can see centrally through the scope without having to move your head then the scope position is good. If not then move the scope until you get it right. It’s worth buying higher or lower mounts if you need to. Remember lower mounts on a pcp may restrict magazine access. Now tighten the screws carefully. Check your zero every time you shoot too.

Hello Andy. Thank you because like any beginner in the pcp, I was faced with several dilemmas to find a beginner's rifle at the best value for money at the cheapest possible price in 20joules 4.5mm with regulator, bezel and manual pump. You convinced me to buy a hawke 3-9x50 ao mildot (119€) rather than a range of scopes from 40 to 80€. The pr900w gen2 rifle (204€) and a 3-stage manual pump vevor (38€).Total 361€.Hate to mount the bezel as you recommend.Really a big thank you for your work, your intellectual and moral honesty with a touch of humor is great 😉😘

Very good job on the video Andy. Lots of good information for a new airgunner. I own a Gamo Urban PCP and it's a great low cost pesting tool, powerful and very accurate. There are a couple of things I would point out. At the end of your video you instructed that the user should remove the magazine from the rifle before storing. The bolt must be pulled back to remove the magazine which cocks the hammer. Also, there is a pellet in the barrel yet so when the bolt is closed the rifle is still ready to fire! I usually leave the pellet in the barrel but I always de-cock the hammer. One has to remember that there is still a pellet in the barrel too, or when they reinsert the magazine it will result in a double feed with two pellets in the barrel. To be really safe, the pellet should be removed with a cleaning rod, or, shot after the magazine is removed. I had a few double feeds when I first got the Urban until I learned what was happening. Thanks, I always enjoy your videos. There's just something about listening to that British accent...😉 Geo from MI, USA

Excellent video and no need to apologise as there are quite a few experts that now and again need reminders of the basics. Scope zeroing from a clamp will get you near but for the new shooter you still will have to re-zero once your in your normal shooting position ( as this won't be clamped) so dont worry if its all a bit out when you first shoot for real just slowly adjust as before by moving up/down L/R as needed.

Hey Andy, remember you recommended this to me about 18 months ago to Karl (That guy knows his stuff),It's been a pleasure to shoot an as you said the snobs with the laminate AA rifles look down on but again as you say that smirk is swiftly wiped away when they see my target grouping, most went in same home even! Only thing is each time I use it I feel I gotta re-sight it in again and I'm getting a container or compressor, probably a pump but then I still gotta rely on someone else to fill it which a pump or compressor does not. Reason for thye container is I'm pumped it up 200 times nearly and still was just over the low red, I don't take much notice of the Chinese one on the pump. I wouldn't worry but mates R10 has no such difficulties. Sorry just looked and that was my 3rd post here...2 years old though.

Shoot a cleaner through it then 100+ pellets and then that's the barrel working well. A cheaper alternative to the cleaners I hear is a thin cigarette filter u can buy 100 for 49p, that being said I'd cut it in half and also keep in mind the cleaners have a heavy hard bit in the middle, apparently that makes the difference.

Thanks Andy, this is superb. I bought the same combo from Nottingham in March and had to work this out myself, with online videos. Exactly what is needed and all in one place. Love the backdrop :)

I use silicone grease instead of oil. It's the only thing used in the scuba world (other than tribolube for enriched or pure o2). The same advise applies, just use a small amount to make the o-ring shiny. Anything above that attracts dirt. Clean the barrel, using airgun specific tools, before you sight in the scope! Buy a torque wrench, and use the specification applied by the scope (opposed to mount) manufacturer. It's called a stop pin, and only comes on mounts meant for airguns. You either zero at the distance you expect to shoot (most), or if variable distance (i.e. hunting and pesting) consider zero'ing at apex (use an app like Strlok to find that distance) as you then only need to holdover (never holdunder). If you zero at a long distance (like apex that I suggested above which might be at ~35m), consider, a rough zero at a closer distance like 10m first. As for zero-process itself, with the gun fixed in a wise take a test shot, then adjust the _scope_ with its turrets to where the pellet impact, then adjust the _gun_ in the wise to zero and try again. As you get close to zero consider using, say, 3 shots, rather than just 1 to take pellet variance into account. Pay the premium for the most _accurate_ and _consistent_ pellets for your gun (this usually means H&N and/or JSB). This give you best feedback as you practice. If you hunt or pest, keep in mind that accuracy is way more important than power. In fact, excess power is a liability as it lowers you shot per fill, increase noise, and decrease accuracy as pellet destabilize in flight.

Nice background, if junior starting out maybe following Dads example a BSA Ultra Jsr , nice sized not over expensive used now around £350 plus you may get a good deal with fitted scope and a divers bottle too, my first PCP I got a FX T12 in 0.22 cal, bag and divers 3 liter tank plus pellets probe fitted to divers tank too, the guy showed me how to load the FX magazine ,load, and fill just to be sure i was informed, this deal cost £350 all together, nice trip to Ely to pick up face to face great guy great deal.

Brilliant beginners tips Andy just one point when the devil is in the detail!.Make sure your new gun is legal and under 12 ft-lb all decent gun shops will have a chrono and check your gun the odd gun will be low or high a quick check keeps you legal. Canting is a killer on PCP,s or any other rifle spring piston or cartridge .If you can and your budget allows a bubble mount add on can really help on scope set ups .Even a small bubble spirit level on top of the elevation turret will help massively. Also quickest tip ever to newbies is follow through.Take your shot and don't move at all after the shot just a few seconds of no movement allows a huge improvement in accuracy. These two tips are virtually free but make a difference with air rifle accuracy.Eventually you can move on to pellet testing to find the most accurate pellet in your gun.All the very best stay safe and good video bud .Regards Tony

Hi Andy . Great vid as considering a pcp soon. But when you was showing the zeroing procedure, I didn't see you take a shot after placing the crosshairs on the first shot, and then re positioning the rifle to the bull ! I'm struggling to see how moving the crosshairs to the first shot and then back to the bull would affect the rifle !! Maybe it's just me !

Move the crosshairs to the first shot using the turrets, then aim the gun at the bull again and take another shot. Think it was edited slightly out of sequence 🤦‍♂️
