I'm working at a large chain pet store and just started my training in petcare. Your videos are educating me so much on proper aquarium keeping and I hope I can try and discourage certain stubborn customers when they reach for the 2.5 gallon tank for their 3 African cichlids

After watching this, I'm considering improving my betta fish's setup. I was thinking about going from a 10-gallon tank with a regular filter to a 20-gallon tank with a sponge filter. I kinda want to improve the aquascaping a bit, maybe by adding a carpeting plant. I might use the 10-gallon to make my younger cousin a cool fish tank as he likes whatever I like. I know some people will say "it's just a fish", but he's my fish.

That’s why I am getting into it, I already love plants and I love fish so I am gunna get some shrimp and some small neon fish not sure which ones yet. But I’m doing an 8 gallon set up and just wanna keep it small for now so I can get used to it and hopefully not run into any issues. I wanna have some excited fishes to see me haha

Just bought my toddler fish for Christmas. I didn’t realize it was this much work… but I’ve become obsessed. The store told me to get a 3gal tank for our betta. Then I researched and saw they needed 5gal minimum. 2 days later I bought a larger tank with more aqua scape and more currently researching how to get him to the new tank without shocking him (that how I ran across these videos). But yes the videos def pushed me to buy a bigger tank and it’s much prettier with everything in it! I think he will like it more!

I get so excited when we catch a glimpse of the lowboy molly tank! Your advice for new hobbyists is great, and I'd add one more tip: DON'T PANIC! It's easy when you first get into the hobby to see a detail or an element you've never seen before, immediately assume the worst, and start throwing meds/chemicals/radical water changes at something that's not actually a problem. It's a case of a little knowledge without experience being a potentially dangerous thing. Notice, observe, research, ask questions...but DON'T PANIC!

For the sake of the lives of the fish that are at stake when we humans make these pet-keeping decisions, I want to celebrate & thank you for this public service video! Your videos have been a great source of information to me since I'm new to the hobby as of April 2020. Before setting up my aquarium I called our local water authority and talked to their chemist about the type of disinfectant they use, which is chlorine only. Ken, their chemist, spent some time talking with me about our local water parameters such as pH, dissolved minerals, salinity, turbidity, etc. I live roughly six miles from the southern shore of Lake Ontario which is our water source. It was a very educational discussion. I would suggest hobbyist consider calling their local water authority. They may reach out to talk to you. Happy Holidays, Dan

I made the mistake of playing the golfish game at the fair thinking I would win one and keep it in a small tank at home. I guess because it was the last night of the fair and I didnt go to pick the fish up until 2 minutes before close, they lady gave me 10 fish. I told her I've never owned a fish and dont have anything at home for them but she put them all in the bag anyway 😭 luckily Walmart was still open and i was able to get a fish tank and food, but I really had no idea what to get and only bought a 10 gallon tank. I've been researching like crazy and I know thats NOT big enough for 10 goldfish. My brother in law gave me his old 6 gallon one and it's priming right now, I'm gonna move 2 of them to that tank tomorrow. I know a 6 gallon tank isn't big enough for a goldfish but I am not a rich woman and I cannot give these fish away to save my life. I absolutely love watching them though and I'm so excited to learn about aquascaping a beautiful environment for them. I have a 75 gallon tank on my Christmas list, god willing and I'll turn the 6 gallon and 10 gallon tanks into beta fish tanks 🤞🏻

In the 80s I had a big interest in aquatics so I read every piece of text that came onto the public domain with reading every fish book in library's near and far but still within the UK even visited sales so I could speak with others with the same interests as I but over the years a;d habitats I stopped but still kept an interest, and last month out of the blue a carer mentioned about her tropical tank and setup within earshot of me so we began talking fish and water paramiters to which she realized I'm not just a name or face and she sparked my interest again and this is why I'm on the net picking at fish topics educationally with KZbin for visual help something not available in the 80s.

I also suggest that new fish keepers consider the longevity of a fish breed. Some only live a couple of years while others live for 20 plus years, that's older than most dog breeds. If you can't see yourself spending 10 plus years looking at the same fish then you might want to choose something with a shorter span. I know in this hobby it is "normal" to trade off fish or rehome them, it's just not in my nature.

That's better for the fish too. Easy access to knowledge on the internet should negate mistakes that may been more common before the Google age. Acclimatizing new fish is one example. How many new hobbyists knew then that you have to float bag on surface for half hour to avoid thermal shock and gradually add water to bag to avoid nitrate shock. on the new fish? Most know now thanks to Google

These videos for beginners are so good and informative. But i havent seen anyone (not just this one) inform new fish keepers the importance of buying, setting up (or plan a separate area) for a quarintine tank in addition to your main tank. I think experienced fish keepers assume everyone just automatically know this and how important it is for intorducing new fish and/or treating sick fish.

If your local Petco does not have the fish you want, and you don't have any local fish stores, yes you can buy fish from the internet. Just make sure they have good reviews, have live arrival guarantees, and use heat packs/cold packs depending on the season. No matter where you get fish from though, quarantining is a great idea! Good luck on your 55 gallon, and keep us posted!

This is a great video and what a wonderful resource for somebody coming into the aquarium hobby or even somebody who's had tanks and is wanting to set up a new one like myself! I agree a 10 gallon is a great starting point and usually very affordable. Plus it gives someone an opportunity to set up a really nice planted tank 😁 with some easy low light plants!! Always the best tips and education with dealing with our aquariums on KZbin.... Prime Time Aquatics!! You guys rock!! Have a very blessed day! 🙏🌿🐟🌿💚

It's a lifetime commitment..when we bring a pet home whether it's a cat 🐈, a dog 🐶🐕 or a fish 🐠🐟 we got to see that it lives a good life 🧬 right to the end ..many give up halfway and it's quite sad to see so many selling their huge 75 gallon to 6 feet tanks on the online marketplace when their interest wanes

My problem: Started my outdoor pond this year and need to bring my 6 large goldfish in for the winter - so decided on an aquarium. Neighbor let me have a bow-front 72 gal tank. Is my experience of caring for the pond (50 gal) for 6 months enough? I plan to put the goldfish back in the pond come Spring and keep the other fish I buy inside. I think I will watch your other videos. I need all the advice you got! My first tank!

The big thing is having enough cycled media to account for the heavy bioload at first.

I do think my fish keeping may be temporary...until I get into marine biology!!! I'm currently an ocean loving teenager who lives no where near the ocean😮💨 I'm currently pretty broke but I hope to eventually have salt water fish😁 I really hope I can get into this hobby for the meanwhile and your videos really help❤
