I wouldn't call myself a PC veteran by any stretch, I just feel confident with how much I know from a few builds and lots of hours spent watching videos/reading articles. There's always more to learn and maybe there are some corrections that can be made to what's said. For example: Jay said Afterburner has to be uninstalled from safe mode to fix it running too strong an OC from boot. I learned, from some other comments, that you can actually just hold ctrl on boot to override the settings that were in place.

I am 42 years old and have been a gamer all my life since the atari. I have also used PCs and laptops for as long as they have been mainstream, however; I have never really put much effort into learning all of the details about how the hardware and software really works. Then, recently, my 11 year old son asked for a "gaming" PC for his birthday. He has always been a playstation gamer and his 10 year old brother an xbox gamer. I do both, but never any real PC gaming. To make a longer story not as long, we began doing a lot of research on what really makes a good "Gaming" PC. As we were learning an insane amount about it, it seemed as if we were just becoming more confused. Then we came across your channel and just like that we are "experts". Well, experts compared to where we were before. I ended up getting him a prebuilt PC from the Microcenter just down the road from my house in Sugar Land, TX based on their recommendation according to what my son wanted. We are now in the process of ordering parts to build a "Gaming"/"Workstation" PC for me! I will say this. Overclocking may not "break" a GPU/CPU/etc., but it will reduce the lifespan of the component. Now, some say, by the time you actually start seeing it fail, it'll be long obsolete by then, but as for me personally, I highly value reliability, so I don't think the small gains with overclocking are worth it at the end of the day.

This video, and "what to do after building a pc" video, were extremely helpful. I was having that "PWR" issue that you said people were freaking about. But your explanation of what I was looking at was very insightful. I have an evga rtx 2060 12gb and had a 500w 80+ bronze power supply. Was "freaking out" about the PerfCap Reason I was seeing and bought an 850w 80+ gold full modular. Was still having the "issue" so I started digging. So PWR reason for being capped is that I'm hitting the limit that can be drawn from the motherboard? If so, the part that currently holding me back is my motherboard. Still having PWR, VRel, and VOp being the cap reason after maxing out the power limit in afterburner.

think I need a beginners beginners guide haha. That is the problem with a lot of computer guides explaining gpu, motherboards, etc. it might be beginner level for their set audience, but with the use of certain terminology it is still confusing. I still enjoy the video though.

Jay, I always here you saying something about people being jealous and that you dont ‘deserve’ your hardware. It goes without saying, but you absolutely do deserve your shit. Youve been doin this for years and I myself and many others wouldnt know SHIT about building their pc’s if it wasnt for channels like yours. Fakkin love ya bud thanks for all the awesome information.

@@Fidelis94 for AMD, you can use AMD Radeon Software then go into the Performance tab. It's a bit more advanced because you can create a global profile for everything or a profile for specific executable (games)

Thanks for doing this video. Knowing me I'd probably end up confusing myself with the PCI 4.0 slot wondering if reverse compatibility is a thing. Showcasing Afterburner was neat to see since I use it myself to mainly monitor GPU and CPU temperatures in game and seeing favorable numbers is almost too enjoyable. When I did use Nvidia GPU's, I liked them less when their program demanded I log in with some sort of account. Yeah bugger off. Glad manual drivers exist. I do agree when I do look at GPU's I check RAM amounts along with size and price. Oh, and if my PSU can handle it.

20:30 if you hold Ctrl during the startup the system will bypass the msi afterburner settings, so you can simply open afterburner after that and adjust the settings and it's done

I think GPU manufacturers should have more focus on that... GPU's for a big part are getting faster because the gpu's are growing in size and they cram more power into them. They're not getting much faster because they develop more efficient GPU's. With the current RTX cards and this new RX 6xxx cards we have some very powerful cards that will work fine for 99% of the market... so let's keep the performance where it is now and try to (dratically) reduce the power they use.
