You will be amazed at just how easy this lace stitch is to achieve. It has a one row, four stitch repeat that is quick to learn. Based on The Vintage Lace Scarf Stitch, I decided to do a similar scarf that was much easier to master. It also has the added bonus of being a reversible fabric making it a perfect choice for a scarf.
Cast on 52sts using 6mm needles and an Aran weight yarn. To adjust the width of this scarf add or subtract in multiples of 4 sts.
Row 1: * K2, yo twice, p2tog, rep *
Rep row 1 throughout until your scarf is the right length for you.

Thanks to you, I am the proud owner of the makings of a lace knit scarf. This is the perfect difficulty setting for a new knitter who has already gotten bored of straight knits and purls, but doesn't yet have the attention span for any stitch more complex than a line or two. That is to say, it's perfect for me. I DID have to unfurl everything and restart once when I realized I was adding stitches like crazy and making chaos of the whole thing. Trying again, I applied the basic maths and tried only yarning over once to make up for the one dropped stitch created by purling the two together. The result is exactly as seen in the video. Nobody ELSE seemed to have this problem, but it seemed so obvious even in theory that I figure I must be missing something, somewhere.

I've made this pattern several times, only I start with the base width and keep knitting till I've reached my desired length. I'm a moderate knitter, but dropped stitches terrify me! I have mastered your trinity stitch pattern and enjoy coming here to learn something new and strengthen my technique. Thank you for these clear tutorials and your beautiful talent!

My doctor recommended I start knitting because of hypertension. BP meds weren't working alone. He had read in a bio feedback article that knitting can help lower BP. After learning my BP came down to completely normal levels. Way lower than they had been in years! Patterns like this are great stress relievers. Great tutorial.

Thank you so much for this tutorial - what a versatile stitch! I've used it to make a shawl using 2ply mohair and 15mm needles and a scarf using 1ply true lace-weight mohair and 4mm needles - both look amazing. The delicacy of the scarf blows my mind - it's almost the sort of rib you might find on a lace glove or stocking - just beautiful! The shawl is obviously less fine but still light and airy enough to do justice to a fine mohair but structured enough to give it nice enough shape to sit well. Ive also used the pattern as an edging for a plain knit scarf for some fancy Fleece Artist yarn I wanted to show off as the "centrepiece". I just used one set of 4 stitches on either side and 2 rows of the full 52 along the top and bottom - the result is really stunning! Question: im wondering if the pattern can be tweaked to halve the number of "ribs" and double the width of the lacy bits between the ribs? Would it be difficult to do - can you help? Many thanks! 😊

For this scarf, either straight or circular needles would be fine. I would recommend circular needles though, as they are more versatile. You can then go on to experiment with other knitting techniques such as the magic loop method (when working in the round). Circular needles are also brilliant for wide projects involving lots of stitches as you can manipulate the work with ease. I find that the weight of the work as it builds is easier to handle too.

Does this pattern work up the same if knitted continental style? I have tried it a couple of times continental, but I always seem to end up with 1 extra stitch in each repeat from the 2 YOs (since only 1 stitch is subtracted from the P2tog). Can someone suggest what I might be doing wrong, please?
@TheCastingOnCouch

zippitydodah Yes this will work in continental style as long as you work a multiple of 4sts and you treat each yo twice as one stitch when you come to work it on the the next row.

@TheCastingOnCouch
@TheCastingOnCouch 10 жыл бұрын
It would depend on your yarn choice. I would work out a small tension square first. Make a note of the number of stitches and measure the width that this sample piece achieves.Then work out how many tension square widths would create the right sized baby blanket for you.

If I wanted to do this in the round, would I simply continue the pattern, or would I reverse the stitches (i.e., p2, yo twice, k2tog) on the even rows? I think this would make lovely lace socks.

After four tries I did it! T Lots of compliments and I love it too. The trick for my success was using markers. When I had it the length I wanted I knitted the raw edge to the cast on edge (goofed how)and made it into an infinity scarf. My question is any advise on how to make a hat in the round to match? I cast on 96 stitches.

Sorry if the question is repeated, I couldn't go through all the comments but where do you get your wool and knitting gear from (needles, yarns, tapestry needles...etc), we don't have a specialized shop around here and I was thinking of ordering online, unless you have your own line? Thank you for simplifying it. What width does this make the scarf? I had bought some 5 ply bamboo/cotton blend yarn but found the lace pattern was just too difficult, so I would like to use it with this one. What size needles would I need?

I am very new to knitting. This looks just my level. Thank you! Can this beginner's lace pattern be knit "in the round"?
