Vintage Lace Scarf Revisited - A beginners edit that demonstrates 3 full sets of this beautiful lace stitch repeat. A lace stitch for the determined beginner as it does require attention to detail. Good luck! A beautiful simple lace stitch worked over 7 stitches and 2 rows. It translates into any yarn thickness. The finer the yarn, the more of a vintage feel it takes on. Love this stitch. Make sure you concentrate on this one! It is easy to make a mistake and be fooled by the fact the repeat is only 2 rows long.

@ 20:35 the instructor shows how to put in a safety line after row #2 (with a tapestry needle & yarn) in case you find out that you've made a mistake ... you can unravel back to that row & safety line ... and then you can begin again without having to unravel all the project - a very helpful tip !! thumbs up !!!

since i have been diagnosed with cancer 3yrs ago i was told to focus on something that will help me with my illness. I joined a knitting club at work and i feel in love with knitting and crocheting ever since. I am good with my hands because I was a fantastic chef cooking for over 30yrs I pleased almost all my clients so to retire before 50yrs old made me pick up a pair of needles and learned and focus on many beautiful patterns. I just love your vintage knitting patterns and i will knit an outfit take a photo and send it to you via email if that is ok with you. I love your work thankyou for emailing me back I will be in touch again ciao

They say that the repetitiveness of knitting is really therapeutic and great for the old grey cells! You are the proof that knitting really helps stressful situations and times of ill health. It's great that you found it. I think learning something new if you can fit it in, is such a wonderful thing. Thanks to KZbin, I am learning Ukulele and Guitar! If ever I feel a bit down in the dumps, the Ukulele gives me an instant lift! The thought of one day being able to play well is a real motivation too! So glad to hear from you.

I passed on your videos so many times bc I saw the finished products and felt that I would once again view another knitting video that was really advanced. I was looking for a teacher that would take the mystery out of the abbreviations. They can be a torture if you don’t read Greek. Thank you for your offering. Little by little, and with your help, I will master the art of the knit.

Thank you so much for your tutorials. You have changed my knitting skills forever and now I’m thoroughly enjoying it. I see you popped in to Loop. A 5 minute walk from my child hood home. I was there visiting my dad over the new year. Beautiful shop 😀 Thank you again.

MyDaisy66 - Many thanks! So glad my videos have helped. I used to work nearby Loop. (I do miss living in London). All knitters should pay a visit to Loop in London, it’s full of beautiful yarns, interesting books and such a treasure trove of knitting accessories.

Laura Flores I am so glad that you find The Vintage Lace Scarf easy. I do not always get to here when knitters like yourself succeed, so I really appreciate your feed back. On my original video some knitters were getting a bit defeated by it so I thought it might be handy to show entire rows.

A Yarn forward is the same as a yarn over when you are completing a KNIT ROW. Where you have purl stitches in your work, they are not the same thing. A yarn over between two purl sts is formed by wrapping the yarn around the right needle, note that because you are working between purl stitches, the yarn is naturally at the front of the work, so there is a need to drape the yarn around the entire circumference of the right needle. A yarn forward will achieve nothing on a purl row, where as on a knit row it forms an extra loop. Hope this helps.

+The Casting On Couch thank you, it does (I finally got to doing the beginners stitch last night, but I'm still struggling some with understanding yarn overs and yarn forward). I think I'll try your other lace pattern done in red yarn once I'm more comfortable with this.

Hi, Can I place stitch markers after each repeat and before/after the YO's to help with this pattern? When I was a making a raglan cardigan I remember placing markers close to the yarn overs to help, and it did. What do you think? Thanks.
@TheCastingOnCouch
@TheCastingOnCouch 7 жыл бұрын
Jennifer Sanchez-Ellis - My gut feeling is that markers may add confusion as the stitch count varies per row. Let me know if markers work for you, as usually they are a great idea. I would give it a try. Recognising a yo stitch from others will help you know your place in the pattern, and is a tip I remember talking about in the video. Good luck!

do you think it better if I use a larger needle than what the yarn calls for? I have nako astra yarn suggested needle 3.5mm
@TheCastingOnCouch
@TheCastingOnCouch 7 жыл бұрын
Mel McKenna - Lace in a finer gauge like the one you're suggesting, generally looks great worked with a larger needle. I would experiment with a 4.5mm needle, and go from there.

I love my scarf, but I am finding that it is curling on the sides. Any tips to fix this?
@TheCastingOnCouch
@TheCastingOnCouch 8 жыл бұрын
Meg Mickelsen When k2tog at the beginning and end of the scarf on row 1, form the decrease on the tips of the needle as tight as you can. Also try gently blocking by dampening the edges and setting it into position to dry overnight. See if any of these ideas work before you continue. If this does not improve things, you could also try slipping the first and last sts of row 2. Hope this helps.
