hey Betty. most important is some gesso white or black (or both as it depends on the project). also gel medium (soft matte gel, you can watch my gel video) and probably some modelling paste. I have a video on that too. the last thing would be a colouring agent such as sprays or paints. I have a spray video as well. if you have any questions let me know

I just started watching your video on modeling paste and saw you struggle a little to get the cap off. I wanted to share a tip with you about something that will solve your problems with stuck on lids. I've used Vaseline for years. You put it around the rings on the lids and you will never have a lid stick again. I use it on glue, paint, alcohol inks and pretty much anything that has a lid with the possibility of sticking, even Kelly and honey jars. Hope this helps. By the way I really like your videos and have just subscribed.

I always use the plastic wrap/"Press 'n Seal" trick. Not only does it make it easy to open jars, but it keeps art supplies from drying out.

I also use a heavy gesso to create texture! Makes awesome pages.My question though is: When you use white gesso with paint, and need to take some off with a baby wipe, does it take the gesso away as well? yes you can use gesso to create texture its great for that. If you put paint on top of gesso and remove with baby wipe it might remove some of the gesso. However all you have to do is either apply gesso again on that area or put paint again. It might not always remove the gesso but It might. It all depends on how hard you rub or how wet everything is.

I am loving your videos...can I use gesso to transfer a stencil to canvas and then add chipboard image on top...will the chipboard stick to the gesso, do I have to add the gel on top of the chipboard...thanks

the chipboard my stick to the gesso but not very well because the binding agent is weak. Best is to run the gesso through the stencil, let it dry and then stick the chipboard with gel medium. that way the pattern won't get ruined. You can heat set the gesso with a dryer. The chipboard will stick but it might come off it won't be as permanent. Each medium has its own purpose and once you learn the formulas then its great. You can Go to my blog and you can print hard copies of each of the mediums. kerentamir.com

yes you can use gesso to cover any surface and use watercolors. for a thinner paper it will protect it from the water however if its too thin then even the gesso will rip it. I have a watercolor comparisson with gesso and without but not on different surfaces. that's an idea for the future

I'm looking for an acrylic gesso for painting over canvases and wood I already painted on. Maybe a liquid gesso like one of these where I don't have to sand it. As long as it covers up the board, I can wait for it to dry and paint over 😄

I would think it would be best to use a thick heavy one like the Finnabair Heavy Gesso. I listed it below. You can buy it in white or black. It will give you a great coverage.

Or can it be applied after drying and still be seen through? I just would like to give it some color touch, but still see through it. Yes you can mix clear gesso with anything. You can apply ink to your mat and then add gesso and mix. It will change the color. It should be translucent but not sure how much, it depends on the ink. You can also mix with some fluid acrylic or translucent paint and it should do the same thing. I use all gesso's for priming depending on what I"m priming. that's the role of the gesso.

Thank you. The gesso I have used for a long time, I can't get any more. I bought another brand, but it have almost no coverage so I need to find a new brand. For info Liquitex also have a medium gray gesso.

the gesso I get best coverage with is the Prima heavy gesso. its really great. I have it listed above in the description area. I have all the types I showed in the video so you can decide. But I really recommend the Prima Finnabair white heavy gesso

Do you sand between applying coats of gesso to wood? And if you sand it do you end ir with sanding then paint or paint on the gesso

I don't work with wood so I'm not sure if you need to sand it but it would be the same as a wall. Its just the primer so you can add paint on it without sanding.

Where do you purchase the Demco gesso? You mentioned Toronto. I'm in Canada and it's so hard to find a variety of product in Canada.

Would the more liquidy clear Gesso, be better for creating tooth on drawing paper, to use Colored pencils like Polychromos please? or a ;less liquidy one? I need one without much tooth.

gesso is there to create tooth, if you want smoothness I would say try putting a coat of matte gel or for an even smoother surface glossy gel.

yes but it should be thick as if its too liquid it will liquify it. best thing is to use mica powders. and remember that if you mix with white gesso it will make it lighter. For example red can become pink. I would use clear gesso instead of white.

Dora Nothing lasts forever. It could dry up if not sealed properly. But could be good for a couple of years.

I had a gallon can that wound up smelling very peculiar over time.
