Amazing video, 5 years later still the best one on the KZbin for a novice trail runner

So true about the splits. I’m kind of a time/distance nerd and found trails cured me. The terrain and elevation of trails cured me. Where I live the most common animal is a grizzly bear. Definitely carry spray and bring a great bear dog with me. Great video....If I had a daughter I’d want her to be like you

I'm currently training for a trail running half marathon(next year). I'm primarily a road runner but do the occasional hike. This has been very helpful. Thank you!

Great video Morgan. Perfect timing for me as I have just made the switch from road to trails.

After two years of road running i jumped into a three day trail race series with no prep. 3, 5, and 11 miler. Idk how I finished without hurting myself lol. So glad to see this video now for any future trail running!

This is a SUPER important distinction you have made here! Trails are very dynamic, and equally demanding.

Great video Morgan! I especially liked the part on the equipment. I really have no clue on what to bring with me. Great advice on looking at the differences in road vs trail running. The training tips are awesome.

I bought trail running shoes and thought it meant those narrow paths in woods... but no they were sloppery in wet rock and tree roots. Almost life threating. Now I know they were just for regular trail.

Thanks so much for the great video! Just wondering which Salomon hydration vest you’re using? Thanks!
@gokiwi26425 жыл бұрын
Excellent video coach Morgen, cool vest, just looks like part of your clothing, some trail vests look so bulky don’t know how they manage the hills, I like carrying 2 bottles of water in my hands, few gels in the pockets & that’s it..do you like running road marathons more or ultras? I’m a bit the opposite have alway run on the trails but for races like running on road, I want to do some intervals to try & improve road speed, my vivoactive3 Garmin has interval training features, haven’t really got a clue how to use some of the features on these modern tech watches, 🤔😀🐆🏃🏽♀️🏃🏼♂️

New trail runners need to realize also that GPS can be highly inconsistent depending on frequency of switchbacks and cover...a 50k can easily show up as only 26 miles on watch due to this...I can't count the number of times new trail runners have said that something is wrong with the watch or course measured wrong, the distance is correct but in actuality it all had to do with GPS sampling and course logistics...

I do both trail and roads, is this a bad thing? I’m definitely finding my body likes trails a lot better, I have hip and IT band issues from roads 🤷♀️
