Hi Cat, I'm not sure if you're still reading here, but I wanted to thank you from the depth of my heart for offering this wonderful Iyengar beginner course. I did three years of Iyengar yoga, but when the pandemic started and my in-person classes were cancelled, I stopped, because I thought that Iyengar was not the type of yoga that could be taught online. But a few months ago I found your channel and it changed my mind: your verbal cues are so accurate and precise that they help me "feel" the pose as if I had a teacher making the corrections in class. I'm finishing module A this week and I can't wait to start module B next week!

Congratulations!! 🥳 I am really so HaPpY that you were able to persevere and make it to 12! It's really quite an achievement because - as you rightly point out - until now there is much 'dissection' of poses to ensure that the structure and understandings are IN the cells. And the reward from here on up is greater flow and rhythm. Yay!! I am celebrating with you over a lovely cup of coffee with coconut oil and cinnamon. Thank you for letting me know. With the warm weather approaching I now need to figure out how to get all my "kit" outside to practice with the furry and feathered crew that hangs out in my backyard in the morning (the sounds are wonderful). You're here !!!! Big Huge Congrats Louisa!! The last challenge of this series and the miracle of getting to it through the lemons that life throws our way. I'm VERY happy!!! Celebrating this victory with you 💛💛💛 ✨ As for Sarvangasana - was my trickiest pose for years. Have you tried adding more blankets? Had I known this earlier it would have saved me much suffering so please do give it a try and let me know. When you find the right amount for your vehicle right now you will feel a fresh sense of lifting rather than excessive gravity. With time you can reduce to 4 or 5. Definitely worth experimenting! 🌷💯🌸 X Cat

Graduation Day!!! 😀😀 Does that mean I am enlightened now?😎.... ok ok, maybe no 😁 Tons of gratitude for sharing these classes Cat. Today I heard you saying something I've never heard before (a very subtle thing). During Vajrasana you mentioned we should spread the buttock bones apart "every time and everywhere" we sit: the desk, dinning table, etc. Wow, very nice nice tip. X Rob. See you on the other side... module B 😉

Graduation!!!! Congratulations!!!! 🥂 💫 As for the buttock bones - yes - always and everywhere - spread them apart. There is a funny story that my teacher told me about Iyengar early days. They were travelling together in London on the tube - (he was there to teach Y. Menuhin). Iyengar noticed someone sitting down and spreading his sit bones apart. He exclaimed to my teacher (F. Biria) "That man studies Iyengar Yoga!'. Faeq politely introduced himself and asked... and indeed he was a student! Lol. On a less jokey note - this simple alignment is transformational. Love and light to you Rob. X me 🌼

Hello. Cat, I have reached Class 12 and have done it 3 times!!! Feels great. But I have not been regular with my classes now as I had hurt my neck while doing Sarvangasana (incorrectly) I did it 6 -7 times in class 11 but one time I brought my chin too much forward to avoid hurting my skull and it brought back old neck pain and nausea. Went to physio a few time and feeling better. But it slowed down my journey. I reached class 12 but without sarvangasana. And I feel guilty of not being regular, I also enjoy new short classes for lower back. Hope to get the motivation and inspiration to get back into the groove of exercising regularly

Good Morning dear Sangeeta! so sorry to read about your Sarvangasana 'adventure'. It's a very tricky pose indeed. Do you have a Yoga chair? Because using one in Sarvangasana when one is feeling sensitive or in need of support is truly healing! As for guilt - banish it immediately. It does not serve you or anyone. ❤️ I know all about guilt because my experience of teacher training was filled with it. And I had to work very hard to not partake with that low vibration so i don't want you to get stuck in that too! The important thing is that you are 'here'. Showing up for yourself. Doing the poses you can when you can. Life is long. The mind/body vehicle goes through ups and downs. The practice can be adapted to our needs. This is Yoga too. Hope this helps! With love and hugs, X Cat 🌟

Cat thank you for your amazing offerings through these classes. Your truly are amazing!! I've spent a week on each class of Module A and look forward to continuing. Could I ask you advice please. I suffered a head & neck injury some years ago and ceased doing Sarvangasana and Sirsana at that time. I have not resumed, but with your expert guidance I felt confident enough to start again. A few days into Class 11, and then more intensely in Class 12 I got a headache, which I suspected was due to Sarvangasana. To explore this, I am now on my 3rd week of Class 12 (practising most days). The 2nd week I skipped all the Sarvangasana poses (the headache dissipated), and this week I recommenced (first day just with knees bent, then with full leg extension the second day). My headache returned and is still with me 2 days later. I have skipped all Sarvangasana poses the last 2 days. I feel with my current situation, this pose is probably not available to me (I have deep internal conflict between my knowing voice that says I should not do it, and my ego which says I can push through! The deep inner knowing must prevail.....) I am committed to continuing to Module B and onwards and would dearly like to receive at least some of the benefits of Sarvangasana . What would you suggest as an alternative to Sarvangasana that I could do during these parts of the classes please?
@YogawithCat
@YogawithCat 2 жыл бұрын
Hello dearest Cynthia. Thank you so much for your message and for reaching out with your particular issue. I appreciate you taking the time to explain in detail and yes I agree with your internal voice! Pushing through is not the answer here. However before giving up on Sarvangasana (or offering replacement poses) I would love to know if you have a yoga chair? If not I do advise purchasing one as it is an investment you will never ever ever regret. Furthermore, it may be possible for you to access a restorative and immensely beneficial Sarvangasana using chair, bolster and blankets which will serve you for the rest of your life. 🌟 The same can be said for Sirsasana (which will come in Module B) using 2 chair seats (doesn't have to be yoga chairs) for the shoulders and the head hanging between - free of pressure and strain. But back to Sarvangasana for now. The first step would be to please let me know if you have a chair because if you do then I will make a small 'how to chair Sarvangasana' for you today. If not I will wait until you have ordered it. Meanwhile, a HUGE congratulations for diligently making your way through this course and getting to the final class!! You're graduating!! ☀️❣️🌿 It's fantastic!! Celebrating with you in heart. X Cat

Wow Cat!! Thanks so much for this amazing journey! Today was my 89th consecutive day with you! And tomorrow will be my 10th iteration of the 12th class! (not sure if when I'll feel ready to jump to module B, maybe after a few more days...) and, as usual, each time I learn (or listen 🤭) something new! However, I still haven't figure out two things, and I wonder whether you could help me with these. On the sideways standing postures like virabhadrasana I, Parsvottanasana, etc.. should I aim to get my feet parallel? Or 45º is OK? And the other thing, you've been telling us to turn our elbows upwards during yoga mudrasana in vajrasana... but they keep turning inwards. I try to turn them with my hands, but they turn back as I left them 😅 - should I pay attention somewhere into my shoulders? One more thing I want to share with you. The other day when getting into sarvangasana I saw the morning 🌗 spying me through the window! Imagine my happiness at that moment 🤩🤩 - So, thanks so much for all these lessons and making me wake up early in the morning to start the day full of energy!! (and with the smile of the moon!)

Awww! That is such a beautiful message rich with moon and sun energy. Really lovely. Thank you. And - the hugest of CONGRATULATIONS 🥳 !!!! 🌟 🌟 🌟 What a journey you have travelled!!! 89 consecutive days is truly outstanding!!! As a fellow yogi I am 100% thrilled and honoured to have been part of this unique experience. 🙏 💛 🙏 As for the 2 questions - starting with the elbows first. This is indeed a tricky action as you rightly surmised the source comes from the shoulders. Next time you practice Yoga Mudrasana in Vajrasana, rotate the arms completely outward so that the palms are facing the sky. The inner elbow too. And explore what the shoulder is doing in this action. How they are clearing space around the sides of the neck. How the triceps are rolling. Then try to keep those actions whilst you spiral the forearms in so that the palms face each other. Then explore the action in the shoulder area. What has shifted. Can you access that area with more sensitivity to directionalise the actions? And then finally spiral the forearms in so the palms are on the floor and compare. As for the legs of Vira 1 etc. I'm not sure if I'm totally understanding the question so let me know if I didn't - the front foot is facing straight forwards (the short edge of the mat) and the back foot is turned in 80°. So almost straight forward but not quite. Hope that helps! As for Module B - take your time, possibly enjoying the integration of everything you've learnt with some self-practices? And when you're ready for more, both myself and Module B are ready to welcome you. Meanwhile, the practice space that you diligently carved out for yourself sounds sacred in so many ways. Thank you for sharing some of that precious energy. X Cat 💫

@@YogawithCat Thanks so much Cat!!!! I've tried what you suggested for the elbows and I can see now that something is happening on my shoulders and neck. I know now what I need to aim for. Like all the other postures, at first, feels weird, but I know eventually it will feel good. Hopefully, little by little I will learn to "activate" the right mucles ;) You understood perfectly my other question about the feet! That small angle is difficult to appreciate from my small screen. It's a relief to know they don't need to be parallel, it was not easy for me to do so with my back foot 😅. Yesterday I was with a bit of migraine, and I was tempted to don't practice, but my body push me to do it and... It felt great, even the jumps (which at first I was scared that my brain was going to resonate inside 🤯, but it didn't!). Have a wonderful day! and thanks for being there waiting for me on module B 😁

ps - on days when you feel 'not so well' like the recent migraine that you had - a practice enables prana to flow - decongesting in every sense of the word, and ultimately inviting positivity into the system. However, one can always step out rather than jump. Or do half poses (using blocks or a chair) if and when needed. The energy still circulates beautifully! Hope your weekend is beautiful. 🌟

Hello, Salam Cat, thank you for such a detailed progession course. I am just done with week 12 this week and now want to know if you could link up some videos I can do before I start module B, especially if you have anything for shoulder rotation externally. Thank you

Congratulations Fiza!!!! Excellent work!!!! 🙌 🌟 👏 I hope that you are feeling a sense of accomplishment! 💛 💖 As for classes I suggest that you browse through the Beginner and Intermediate playlists. In the Intermediate playlist avoid anything that is Int. & Adv. and focus on everything that has Beg.& Int. in the title. (Since Intermediate is a wide range this is the best way to ascertain what is correct for you) I also recommend that you keep practicing Class 12 of the Module without my accompaniment. This will really help you to learn in a deep deep way. Let me know how you go. I'll be waiting to hear from you! 🙏 Cat ps - shoulder class being posted in a couple of weeks. Perfect! Keep an eye out for it.

@@YogawithCat Oh wow! I’m honoured and kind of few star struck that you replied to me!! Thank you! Yes I was being lazy when I posted the comment, the next day I debated to do another week of class 12 or do a new video that’s when I found the beginner playlist! Thank you so much for the list I’ve already done two classes from the list and thoroughly enjoyed both of them. Thank you for encouraging me to try to do class 12 without you but that won’t be fun! Haha I love doing yoga with you, I started in November 22 I think and been doing your classes every week 3,4 times! I’m generally a grumpy early riser but I look forward to the class every morning. Glad to have found you! Thanks, Salam!

Roberto!! Yay!! Congrats!! Class 12!!! That is truly awesome. You did it. ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ No small thing to get through a course that you're doing at home. Keeping the self-motivation levels high is hard work. I'm so happy to be celebrating this with you and hope that, when you feel ready, you'll continue into the next modules. Most importantly I hope it's been useful and healthy and foundational for you in your present and future living. Big Bravo Hugs 🤗 🌸☀️ X Cat

lots of love and blessing to u cat and to your daughter❤ started with last class of this module and loving it.... took break coz of moon cycle but got chance to practice your new vedio for moon cycle and cant thank you enough for that ❤💖 cat i had one que regarding my mom ... she is 54 year old and facing lot of digestive issues and when we did her test endoscopy the report says lax ge junction (gastroesophageol) cos of which she feels heavy on her chest and no hunger and discomfort all the time 😔 breathless too. i wanted to help her through yoga coz i have seen so many changes in my health after doing your vedios so i have trust for her too... but as she have not done any exercises in her life so m not sure how can i start with her? if u can please suggest few asanas which are easy for her plus coforting and helps in recovery to... as per my search it looks like posture problem as she leans forward too much and her muscles have become loose . Thanks and love ❤

Good Morning dear Afsana. What a beautiful idea to help your mom. ❤️ She will definitely benefit so much from starting a practice and you will also benefit from helping. As you correctly pointed out - because she hasn't ever exercised and because of posture and health issues the entry must be very very gentle. And I have something that I think will be just perfect for her. 🌟 A 5 day Pure Beginners Course that I'm going to be sharing next week so the timing is perfect! It is called Beginners Yoga for Lower Back but don't worry about the title because I could also have called it Beginners Yoga to Help Everything! It's very accessible because the classes are only 30 min. long and there is a different practice for each day of the week. Your mother can start next week and practice it over and over again for at least a month. Once she starts make sure to message me about her journey - things that are very hard, things that are easy, how she feels it etc. and we can take it from there. The first one will come out on Monday 21st. Look forward to reading about her experience and helping you to help her! With love, X Cat 🐈 💫

Hello again Cat. This is Shirley from South Africa. Here I am 12 weeks into Module A and so enjoying the final class of this module - what a magnificent journey it has been. I practice each class 6 days a week and can’t emphasise how much I enjoy meeting you on the mat each day - thank you from the bottom of my heart 😁 Just a quick question. When I practice Prasarita Padottanasana I feel an uncomfortable sensation on the outside of my left foot at the ankle area when I take my hands back to align with the feet. I have my toes in and heels out, have tried widening my stance and narrowing my stance but the sensation persists. Do you have any idea on what I am doing to cause this discomfort? I so love this pose but find myself gritting my teeth to get through it 😬 Look forward to starting module B with you next week, I’m so excited 🤗 Namaste 🧘🏼‍♀️

Shirley!! How great to hear from you! On the last class!! Well done!!! That is such a show of commitment and you deserve a celebration!! As for the outer left ankle, it sounds like you might be over lifting the inner arch/inner ankle? From your description the 'basic alignments' are correct so to detangle the issue you'll need to go deeper into the foot and ankle. A couple of questions: have you ever had an ankle/foot injury (past injuries often resurface as we start working through them) and - do you feel pain in this area in any of the other poses? We'll figure this out!!! ☀ X Cat

Hi Cat, no prior injury to the foot and I do not feel it in any other pose. I will try to figure it out when I do yoga today and pay attention to lifting the inner arch. I will let you know the result 😊Sx

I think I have it figured out 🤞🏻 I had my yoga mat on a thick rug (only because the floor is tiled) and I think this resulted in my weight transferring more into the outer heel in the pose. I have now moved my mat off the rug and onto the floor and felt a better transfer of weight in both feet with no discomfort. Interesting analysis but let’s see how it goes this week. Ill email some pics if the problem returns 😊

Hi , can you please show asanas for correction of Diastasis Recti

Hello Priya and thank you for your message. I would love to help but DR can be a sensitive issue and may be best with hands on guidance.... If you have the chance to give me a little more details that would be great. Also - Have you been following this Course from the beginning? If so - how did the abdominal section feel for you? With light, Cat 💫

@@YogawithCat I am following you. I really love your sessions. The only problem was my stomach wasn't reducing much, like the rest of my body. Though am not a heavy bodied person. But my stomach was the one protruding . Then I read about diastasis Recti which happens after pregnancy. I started to work out on the same, now I see changes in my stomach. So wanted to know if you can show exercise that would help me with it along with my other body parts. Here currently am just exercising my stomach and trying to get it in form. Hope you can show some wonderful exercises keeping in mind the stomach reduction . Thank you so much Cat. Love Priya

Hello dear Priya - the 'Universe' guided me today and I found old chats that I wasn't aware of.... until now. Apologies! Diastasis Recti is of course very sensitive but it can be greatly improved. And 100% - the regular practice of Asanas will help. Especially if and when you apply the conscious lifting of the organs in each pose. I am putting my e mail here so that we can discuss more privately if desired. catderham@gmail.com. And here is a link to a class that deal with organ health: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y6XCgKCor9Kbj7M Furthermore I would be delighted to make a special one just for you if you are interested.
