Thank you so much Iain for this KZbin demo...it just reinforces what I should be doing always and not only sometimes. When I don’t I am never happy with the final painting....when I do the composition thumb nail followed by a value study the final painting glows with life as I wanted it to from the initial concept. 🙏🙏🙏🙏

I tend to avoid landscapes/cityscapes etc because of the amount of detail, but this really helps to break down that initial explosion of information and take you straight to the application of values. Much appreciated.

Thanks for all the kind comments guys. Carlos, I use a table top easel and the paper is Stillman & Birn Beta series loose sheets. Great paper.

Thanks for making this method of watercolour working so clear, if not any easier for all of us. Has made me want to get out the old wc paints again.

One of the best! So glad I take the chance for a workshop last year. To see the real thing is almost a "must".

Sir!!!! I appreciate this video. It not only made water colors interesting, but the process that you used involving PHOTOSHOP is an excellent idea that can be used regardless of what you may be painting or drawing. VALUE has universal application. Thanks for showing me that. And, of course, that was an awesome painting.

Helpful dialogue, Iain. I've been using S&B sketchbooks for travel recently, the last year, but have mixed feelings about it. Zeta and Beta series. Am also using Strathmore's wc sketchbook which has cotton rag wc paper in it; different from S&B. Still evaluating.

Where do you buy that kind of small palette that opens out 4 ways? What is the name of it. I have tried unsuccessfully to find one.

What angle do you use for your support/paper? The pigment flows down but not a lot to break the bead...
@Supemarshallmarshall10 жыл бұрын
Hello I notice you mention the paper you use, which I don't think we can get that here in the UK. Is it Not or Hot Pressed and what "weight" is it/ 90lbs or 140lbs? Thankyou

What is the degree of incline of your art board? Is it to facilitate the wash bead or to reduce the distortion of working on a flat board from a low point of view?
@iainstew718 жыл бұрын
Typically I work at a 15% incline. Yes, it helps the water move down the painting in a controlled fashion. I also do a lot of rotating.
@ArtStiefel9 жыл бұрын
Excellent demo Iain! Did you free-hand the sketch onto the paper or project it? Trying to dive into this technique and would love to know what steps you take along the way. Thanks for sharing!

+Iain Stewart Thanks for you reply. Looked like you were using a smaller size brush than a 14.
@romypie37258 жыл бұрын
+sandrahelenes Take a look at 12:21, he's using a 12...probably for detailed parts.
@iainstew718 жыл бұрын
+Romy Pie It looks like it. I typically use the Perla 14 and Versatil 14 nowadays with a Perla 6 for small details and a 3/4" to 1" flat. Always changing.
