Drawing is ALL about looking...
Whether you're working in an abstract or semi abstract manner, it's important to remember that painting is about communicating something to the viewer. That may be literal or more suggestive but having a clear purpose is vital. A pretty paint surface isn't enough.

--------------------------------------------------
Working with mixed media using a variety of different paints. I work rapidly but build up the paintings in layers to make sketches that can be referenced in studio paintings.
Lewis Noble has lived and worked in Derbyshire since 1996. His focus lies in the physical and emotional impact of the landscape on the senses and the effect this experience has on us.
His paintings are not snapshots or photographic frozen moments but through repeated layering and eroding of the painted surface, they contain all of the time it takes to make them.
The result is a body of work that speaks to the heart of what it means to be part of the environment.

I like what you said "of whoever is looking at it"! I love when people look at my paintings and they see different things than I do. That's why I don't like to name my paintings, don't want to influence the viewer. Sometimes I'll post something on Instagram and ask for first impressions to give me a title. I've learned a lot from your videos.

Hi Lewis I love to see the comfort of really knowing your medium as you demonstrate, the confidence of that crayon in your hand is like a literal transcription of your thoughts. What the heck are those crayons?

Robin, those crayons look like they are the Stabilo Woody 3 in 1 crayons. I use them quite often and love doing mark making with them! These crayons come in different sized sets. I hope this helps you!

Lewis i really like this style of painting i tried it on smaller canvases worked fine but when i try it with bigger canvas(60x90) i found it quite difficult do you have any tips ?

hey bro interesting what u said about things happening at the board, ive noticed that too. Happy accidents. Where can I get these type of boards? ive been painting on canvas until now. I was also curios what that orange thing was, and that sketchbook do you paint directly on it for practice? all of them had frame-like symmetry, id need something like that. Cool to see your process, seems very liberating and relaxing. Cheers
