That is precisely the same conclusion I came too, the power to open the doorway to the astral plane of the Godhand is the immortal cry of a soul or (soul's in the case if the Crimson Behelit) wrapped in the terrible agony of thosed sacrificed as they are torn from their mortal coil. Once unsealed the energy is released and your humanity is torn away from your soul leaving only the ego sealing it inside with all of the anguish and torment of the sacrificed.

The English version of "Memorial Edition" added a scream to the original audio of the Behelit Scream, similar to this one. In my personal opinion, I also agree it gives in more horror to the scene than the Japanese version (and most other dubs) which does not feature an additional scream.
