We don't know anything like a "detention center" here in Germany. Every time I watch a Jail TV video, I'm amazed at the little things you can get arrested for in America. Shoplifting, for example. In Germany you take your personal details on site and then the matter is settled. A court then sends the penalty order. This is because we have a reporting law here. Deposit is only required in special cases. We don't know anything like that when it comes to minor offenses. We may not have the best legal system here in Germany, but it is still far better than in the USA. And we have pre-trial detention. For serious offenses, the judge issues an arrest warrant and the suspect goes to prison. All in all, we have more freedom here than in the land of the free.
