I personally bought a 6040 CNC Milling Router for my personal use. I really enjoy working on CNC Machines. I worked for companies making complex parts for the army and stuff, so I decided to get me a machine just to create stuff for me and family. The first thing I made was a Horse Phone Holder out of wood for my daughter. I post it on my IG, next thing you know, I had people asking me to make them one. From Phone Holders, I have made Personal Frames for people, Personalized Gift Boxes, and now I have two business customers. That keep asking me to make then stuff every month. I really wanted to use my CNC to make stuff for me, but it turned out that people liked what I do, and now I making some extra cash, and by the way, I am enjoying it. 🙏 You gave great advice! And is true what you say, time and commitment is the key. If you do it for the money, it wont work!

Hi to I. D. C. Woodcraft --- this is the second of your videos that I have watched (part 2 follows...). All that you say is 100% true and correct. I have been doing CNC routing for about 4 years. Started off with a rubbish machine from a rubbish local supplier (bad quality machine and revoltingly bad support). However it taught me an amazing amount. I bought this machine when I retired because I wanted to replace all the creativity that my working career squeezed out of me. Now I look forward to getting up in the morning and getting into my garage. I now have a second hand X Carve and to me it is perfect. And a massive thank you to the gent that sold it to me for a really great price. Things get really expensive in South Africa with our ridiculous exchange rate. Your video on CNC hole drilling taught me exactly what I wanted to know. All the how AND why. Marketing? Good quality makes good customers who talk to their friends etc. Hard work? Yes. I have worked 48 hours straight to get orders out. Make good money? Not so much. Do I have the passion to carry on? Yes. My wife started a Facebook page (A Touch of Creation) with pics of all my work so far. Each idea creates another idea - things get so exciting. What would I like to know more about? How to carve 3D creations. If you already have videos, please pass them on to me. For info, I design in Aspire and copy the g code into Easel and cut with X carve. If you stop learning you are dead. That being the case I should live a loooong time - and enjoy all of it. PLEASE keep the excellent videos coming!

Hello Stewart. You said so much here. I love to hear you have a passion for doing this. It is what makes everything so worthwhile. And the thing you said about living a long time. Thanks to you I now know i missed instagram😉 Been working on different products for a couple of months now and just registered my business, setup a website, accounting and all of the associated things you have to think about. One thing I made a priority is work with a schedule and at the moment its 2 hours product design, 1 hour marketing/research, 1 hour of paperwork and the rest goes into building, fine tuning and learning my machine. Doing this as a side hustle next to my day job to begin with.

Garrett your thoughts are received as wisdom. I originally purchased Aspire first and then purchased a Laguna IQ CNC. Learning the software is an ongoing situation. Being efficient so that you can properly price your time and overhead is of the upmost importance. I bought into CNC so that I could take my wood working craft to a much higher level. Making things for others is always rewarding, it helps pay for tools for the next project as well. Thank you Garrett !

Hi Roger. A CNC is a natural augment to woodworking. What kinds of projects do you make and how will a CNC stack on what you make?
@rogercox80843 жыл бұрын
@@IDCWoodcraft Garrett, My first items produced on my CNC were profile cut items. Once the code is written for an item, the speed and accuracy is difficult to match by free hand cuts. Not to mention, being able to sand one part while the next is being cut. Net result, shorter elapsed time when making multiple parts. Another major production improvement to making items with V-Carve letters and features is no need to create fixtures and jigs. This by far is the greatest enhancement to my woodworking capabilities. V-Carve inlays, raised lettering and 3D carvings are now real possibilities with practice and runtime experience. Roger Cox

I'm putting my cnc together by Thursday and weighing options to make the best $ possible. Etsy store, ebay, doll houses, tool hangars, signs, docking stations, idk. Wood and or metal. 1500w brushless motor with 14 watts of nemas. 14" vertical X 28x 25". Stationary tslot table . Double screws on 1st axis to prevent racking of structure above. Looking for suggestions

Right on Mike! Congrats on getting your CNC set up. The best way to make money is to find something you are passionate about but also has a market demand. Try out a few things and see what sticks.

I'm so happy to find your channel. I been thinking about buying a CNC Router, (Bob's in particular) after building my cousin's holiday decorations using a Jigsaw. I am a creative and want to be entrepreneurial but I'm worried with my digital failures this will be the same outcome. I don't like the idea of selling somebody something, so I find your approaches organic and genuine. I know I have the ability to operate a business, it's simply the lack of time I've put into one thing to make it work. I'd like to think working with something physical rather than building websites or money obsessed drop shipping would be an amazing venture/skill to have throughout this life. Thank you for your content.

Hello Shane! Boy, do I know the journey you've been on. I can tell immediately you're like me...a person who wants so badly to find the thing they love to do that brings in the money in a very organic and genuine way (and tired of chaing the money). I can tell you this...when you find it, it becomes easy (as I have found with the CNc router / woodworker / teacher) That you know you are a creator means you will never stop until you find that magic thing. And you will find it! CNc router work is an amazing way to create things (virtually anything you want) as you will find out if you buy a machine. On the note of BobsCNc...from my experience and researching all the other comparable routers, I felt in my heart thieirs was the right one as a step into the CNC router world for 2 reasons. They are the most supportive little company I came across with rock solid integrity, and they truly want to provide a means for people like you and me to ease into this amazing world of CNC creators. No matter which one you get, I think you'll find that 'flow' in your heart when you start making stuff.

Good advice. I think I’ll give bobs a go. I’m sure it can do signs and other 2-d well. I am concerned on its 3-d limits. Do you think it can cut as well as shapeoko and onefinity if using xcarve?
@IDCWoodcraft2 жыл бұрын
Hi Scott. I don't have a Bob's CNC anymore because it wasn't rigid enough. I have switched to the long mill CNC router. However, to answer your question, yes the other machines will do 3D work just fine. If you want to know about the longmill, I did a pretty deep dive video on it. Interestingly, it costs about the same as a Bob's CNC. Heres the link to that video kzbin.info/www/bejne/j5mcZYlpatOYibc

I have a question about CNC setup. Where I don't presently have a garage, basement, etc. In your opinion do you think it would be possible to run a CNC router table set up in a cargo trailer, possibly run of a generator? My concerns would be the floor may not be as solid as a concrete floor. Problems cased by vibration and probably not perfectly level. Any response is appreciated.
@IDCWoodcraft Жыл бұрын
stann6868, brother it could honestly work pretty decent for you! I started out in my own apartment my friend. All I can say is if there's a will there's a way. A generator should work well for you if you have enough power going to it!

@@IDCWoodcraft ...Keep up the good work, I retired to a small Mayan village in the high mountain jungles of Guatemala...2013... from California where I was in the engineering business. ... and been watching video on artful topics... yours was most valuable on the key spiritual issues relative to being viable... vital issues actually for any endeavor... I am helping some families here. . The money motivation takes away from the grace that needs to drive great art. In the old days 70's to mid 80's I was flat tracking motorcycles along the west coast. grace in that blood sport takes it to another level... . if the motivation is grace not speed just as money sucks the life out of art.... practicing perfect grace and precision and going slow enough that you make no mistakes... and are perfectly balanced ends up making you fast. At the end of 20 or 30 of those laps (each lap timed and shown to you as you pass the mark) you feel slow as molasses, when you turn a faster lap. and fast as lightning when you turn a slow lap full of drama and mistakes. and bored as you slide into the turns sideways with both feet on the pegs...and feel like you could get off and walk faster. Practicing speed just burns in the errors you make trying to go too fast for your skill levels.. actual speed is a grace exclusive. . Watch some speedway or grass track on you tube these are 500cc bikes under 100 lbs, in 4 lap races with 4 riders, they burn nitro methane, and have no brakes. In the US the half mile and mile dirt ovals is what lit me up and I am 80 now... and it is the grace it all the keeps me alive today. . I don't know if that would help off roading a jeep in rough terrain but it might in the desert.

Thank you for a down-to-earth initiation pep talk - it's very much appreciated. I have a CO2 (K40) and 2 diode lasers and I enjoy making small stuff on them, but the time it takes to etch an image is really tiresome due to the fineness of the laser beam. I have a digital and screenprinting signage background, which is causing me to consider CNC as a means to make signs again in the small space I have available (a garden shed!). Having watched your vid I think Will ditch the CO2 and get a small CNC machine and give it a go. Thanks again for the inspiration.

Is it worth it and do they produce results?
