Patience is a virtue. Fancy tools make things easier and (sometimes) faster, but they don’t make or break the project in the hands of a patient craftsman.

Big thanks to Matthew from Cornwall in the UK. The material costs are quite a bit higher here than on your side of the pond and the sale prices are going to be a lot lower but there is still money to be made so thank you, thank you and thanks again for taking the time and trouble to make these inspiring videos (and I hope the making of them earns you a few quid too)!

Gotta tell you Peech, I’ve watched a bunch of your educational videos, you have great ideas. One small project that I’ve sold without any social media is pot spoons. These spoons are great for soups, chilis, gumbos, gravies, etc….all are made out of native hardwoods (cherry, maple, etc.). Out of an eight foot board of cherry 3/4” by 6” wide) I can cut around 25 spoon blanks. Board cost is about $12, sandpaper and tung oil another $13 for a total cost of $25. I’ve sold to date since mid November 123 spoons at $20 each. Downside is that it takes about 45 minutes to make one for me, semiretired so not a real big deal. Now I’m moving on to try spurtles, new “in” to the cook of the house.

I grestly appreciate this channrl. I have watched a lot of others, you show us all the tips and tricks, where as the others, skip steps, and do not explain clearly what they are doing. I know how you like the vintage look, and often talk about the square masons nails, and they are great. I have used and will use again. If I want to give a piece that extra special something, I have been using date nails in the highly visable areas. For those of you that do not know what date nails are, theycare nails with 2 digits representing the year a railroad tie, or utility pole was installed. If your nrar and old rail line that still has wooden ties, take a walk along and usually, they are located on the outsides of the rails. The purpose was to see how well certain ties with certain treatments held up. Oh, if anyone decides to use the, do not drive them in with a hammer, you will split wood. Drill a hole the snugly fit in. Add a little glue and push them in by hand! Gives a very authenic look, and have not seen anyone else using them! Keep up thr great work Matthew! 😊

@richardmccann4815. I’m right there with you. I’m 50 now and still don’t have a dedicated work area for when I woodwork. It makes it hard when you only work on weekends, only have a limited area in the backyard without covering (my mother in law took over the canopy for jewelry making) and the weather doesn’t always comply or when the wifey wants to go places on the weekends. I’ve been trying to turn the hobby into a business but I’m restrained by what I’ve mentioned. All we can do is keep trying and just build for the love of it.

To make the shelves for the adjustable floating shelf, I think I'd router a groove across the board I'd use, then rip the board. Or I'd clamp the boards together, pop a guide on, and then router using the guide. I'd still have parallel grooves for the slots, which is the important thing.

WARNING - T-Nuts are supposed to be used for thru-holes, using them from the same side of the wood it is installed in from the same side as it is installed in isn’t going to create a secure attachment, all of the weight will be held on the 4 tabs dug into the wood which is going to come loose and crash down to the ground in a relatively short amount of time, you should use threaded inserts instead.

Beautiful work, I just stumbled across the channel earlier ( couldn't sleep). When I was younger I did some construction work and tinkered around making toys for my kids and their friends and wanted to make my own furniture. But life happens taking a wrong turn somewhere I had to change occupations (single moms can't bring their kids to the job site). Losing our home took away the need for furniture, and we didn't need many more toys now that they were becoming teens. I'm retired now and living with a lot of pain in my legs making standing difficult after a while, looking for something to do with myself and I wanted to ask you if you can suggest some easy small projects I could do like on my lap to get started? I think once I get started the enjoyment would help me get my mobility back faster (you know having a project you just have to finish right now), knitting and crocheting are fine they just don't have enough stimulation to get around. I hope you can help me out, I really like that Chick-nic table, and think my coop would look really nice with 1 or even 2 of them in there. However, it might be too big as a starter project. Anyway, thanks in advance for reading and I hope you can help me out, r.lisa Yes, I subscribed AND hit that bell😊

To me it's kind of funny that console tables are a big deal now. Several years ago I went in search of a table for my entrance/foyer & found a lot they were either too wide or too short or the price was way out of my single Momma budget. I took screenshots of a lot that I liked the design of, but they just wouldn't quite work for me. So I sat down and roughly drew up what I wanted, searched my wood pile along with buying a couple of 2x4s for the legs & built what's now popular in the Farmhouse/Modern Rustic style. 😂😂😂

For that first shelf, if you don't want to deal with box joints, you could just cut three equally wide pieces of hardwood strips, then cut one of every three strips 1.5" shorter than the others, and using your pipe clamps, glue them up into three piece panels, alternating lengths to make box joints. Then you could take that one step further and have the center strips be contrasting boards for that extra pop of color. You could probably batch out several sets at once by doing that way, buying equal amounts of the two contrasting woods.

If it helps anyone. My Dad taught me a trick for cutting down the corrugated aluminum that's fast and accurate to get it down to manageable sizes. Use a circle saw with a carbide tipped blade turned backwards. The more teeth the better and if memory serves the blade doesn't need to be sharp

GREAT content. Super inspiring. I'm thinkin' the chunky but small floating shelf concept produces grip/security at the wall surface for it's thickness which you would sacrifice goin' thinner? Any thoughts?
@hulksta32234 күн бұрын
I have a question. For the scrap wood floating shelves idea....it's a cool and innovative idea, but there is 1 issue I see...if you're only using 1 screw, what is to keep the shelf from tipping over from one side or the othe? Because I'm assuming it's only using friction between the back of the shelf and the wall itself to stay in place. This concept is based on the assumption that the customer will use this shelf for something that will only be placed on the center of the shelf AND the items weight would have to be evenly distributed. If that makes sense.
