I love the way their outfits are colour-coördinated. That says teamwork.

Brilliant women. It’s a whole different structure, building a story in song and plot versus slamming existing songs into a formulaic jukebox show wherever they fit.

This is the second time I'm asked in a college musical class to watch this video! It's such a charming video, both in terms of enlightening the audience about the creative process and demonstrating a healthy and fun collaborative relationship. I look up to them so much.

13:19 does anyone know if Jeanine is referencing a musical number in particular, here? It sounds like it might be a Kander & Ebb opening number, but it might also just be a stereotypically Broadway piano riff, I don't know

They did an interview on Fresh Aire today (8/17/14) where they discuss several of the songs and how they came to fruition. Very interesting approach.

You may be cool, but are you "color-coordinate your outfit with your writing partner" cool?

I have just been wondering but I couldn't quite figure it out - why is the song called and focused on the ring of keys allison sees her wearing? What does that have to do with how allison identifies with her?
@ay986

BetteDancerBroadway19 I think young Allison is for the first time seeing a woman that she could identify with that dressed in a more masculine rather than typical feminine way and her ring of keys was the definitive butch part of her outfit. I think the fact that she notices that this woman isn't miserable but seemed to be doing just fine being different is also a major takeaway, that is just my interpretation.

Yes that makes complete sense! Thanks!

BetteDancerBroadway19 To add to ay986's interpretation of that scene...I also feel like since this is her first time feeling this, you can see her unable to complete any of her internal thoughts. So she struggles with speaking about them, so she sticks with the physical attributes, things she can define and prove is real. Like her lace up boots, swagger and keys that are on a ring. I honestly have only heard of this musical from the Tony's award show, and have been listening to this song a lot today but that's what I got from it. Sorry if that was confusing. >.

This is a really late reply but maybe it's about her opening her mind to different thoughts?
@jessicadoherty5848
@jessicadoherty5848 6 жыл бұрын
super late reply but it also could be a thing about how in the comic she talks about how much she was drawn to things that have a purpose and aren't purely aesthetic (unlike her father) and keys are definitely an object that is function over form
