I am not picking a fight at all, I say this respectfully but I did want to comment. I am a composer myself (I am a hack compared to Anne and/or Hans) and I just wanted to point out that many musicians/songwriters/composers don't love being compared to some other bigger name. If someone were to say "your so good you are almost like Hans Zimmer" about something I wrote I would take it as a big compliment, but I would take it as a bit of an unintentional backhand as well. While I wouldn't say anything other than "thank you so much" I would secretly wish someone else would step in and say "you know... how about we just talk about this music and leave Hans Zimmer out of the conversation?" : ) I know it happens and I am willing to bet Anne doesn't mind, she sounds super SUPER cool. But I also think she deserves respect for having her own AMAZING voice without having to mention any other composer. And for my take, I have been following her for a while and personally, I think Anne is much better. I am simply blown away by everything I hear from her, with respect to him (again, he is a much better writer than I will ever be) I really can't say the same for Hass Zimmer but to each their own.

This is really what I imagine as the future of composers and composing. Looking at the story and crafting something that is completely embedded with the film and not something that just sits on top. You really thought of everything here and the combination of synths and the completely classical singing is absolutely insane. I would have loved to work on such a project. Really really great!

I wholeheartedly agree! As much as I enjoy the lush traditional orchestral scores, it does feel to me that there's nowhere to go creatively. Everything has already been done. This fusion approach might lead the artform into new territories that haven't been explored.

Even on my XM5s though...it sounds absolutely epic. Remarkably different than much of your other work in the way, to my ears, it weaves melodic and harmonic elements and different instruments…particularly synths and well...of course the chorals. I mean...you say as much in this video but...compared to The Claus films or Fearless the difference in approach really stands out. I'm curious...is that the same pipe organ you used on your “Where My World Begins” EP?

Ha, super stardom... I'm still lightyears away from that! 🙂I honestly still don't feel like I know what I'm doing with synths. Just turning knobs and layering stuff and trying things out until it sounds good. So I'm not sure I'd be the right person to give any advice on the matter (other than "press all the buttons and turn all the knobs until you find something").

@@AnneKathrinDernComposer Maybe, but I find most of the experts here are coming at it from a pop-music workflow which isn't super helpful for me. And as your compression video shows, people respond well to your non-expert-yet-practical approach to things. Personal anecdote: my great grandfather wrote math textbooks. He was good at this precisely because he was terrible at math, so he knew how to explain things to others to whom it didn't come naturally. :)

That's funny because they were mixed at the same time at RCP. Eva Reistad was our score mixer on this and she was going back and forth between mixing this one and mix assisting on Dune. Our movie just took longer to find distribution but it seems both scores were created at the same time. 🙂
