I think that Sara's coaches came off a little over the top but they are being paid to do a job. I think this sport is showing though that the best competitors are being coached by people who know how to find the right balance of Coach/Friend. Its so intense that good coaches have to be able to flow with the emotional ups and downs with their athletes.

I love watching these videos, but the profanity and the objectification of women gets old fast and takes Crossfit out of the zone where I can watch it with my kids without having to explain the foul words coming out of castro's mouth.
@RecExistance118 жыл бұрын
+Jonathan Fulcher then how come none of the women dress like clever used to? baggy shorts and a t shirt. They all know how they look and the girls wear skin tight clothing. Its not just objectifying them. Its all the image they want to portray.
@fulcherjl8 жыл бұрын
+Alex Roan Well i cant really speak for them, but my guess is so that they can perform athletically. I dont really think the crossfit mentality is to objectify the men or women, at least not at my gym. People are just there to work hard. Do you think the girl on the bike was hoping to objectify herself when the camera man asks Bailey how hot she is? My guess is no, but thats just me....
@RecExistance118 жыл бұрын
+Jonathan Fulcher No she wasn't, good point. I do think that the reason he asked that is due to the long history he has with ribbing dan about not having a girlfriend though. Also, i think that there are videos with girls commenting on who the hottest is at the games, not to mention the love that rich gets when he takes his shirt off haha. But overall, yea its all about hard work

+Alex Roan I agree, its like Sevan is constantly trying to hook Dan up with someone. He did the same thing with Noah and Brook Wells but I dont think he knew Noah had a GF. I think that CF lends itself to sexuality easily because of the primal nature of the sport and the fact that fitness is good for the body. Yeah some of the ladies are hot, but then again Mikko Salo is one good looking dude. No homo.

Sara sigmondottir' coach has the attitude that isn't what Crossfit is about. He is a prick. Getting to the games is the win. Yes you play to win the games but the chance to just get to the games is such a small small chance. So celebrate that fact. Don't boss your athletes around to the point where they cannot enjoy the journey.
@samscil8 жыл бұрын

+blaktrumpet I agree. A lot of comments here hating on him but if an athlete like sara who is super competitive herself (listen to her interviews) wants to get to the top and remain there it is a great fit. They are trying to make her the best possible crossfitter she can be and even admit they are not experts in every area and will bring in people who are because it is to the benefit of the athlete. They want to raise the bar on what training will be needed to be a crossfit champ and he said he wants her to be so dominant that nobody else can even touch her. i dont know about you all but if i hired a coach i would them to have that mindset and take me to my best possible self,
@facelen43218 жыл бұрын
+rod22Peru I see your point and you are right. The problem for me is that a real champ does not need to talk. Too much talk. If you want to be the best shut up, train and be humble. This is the only way to be stronger... it is to be humble, to treat tho opponents with respect, to learn with and from them. This is what a real champ seeks. They were saying that they want her to be so dominant that the others would give up... that is bullshit (and the two final events were very humbling for them)... that is not the mindset of a champ, because if you are a true champ you don't want others to give up, you want them to chase you down and the more they chase, the more you get fired up to win. It is a completely different state of mind.
@lucas828 жыл бұрын
+rod22Peru Yep, also I think things are often times too chummy among CF athletes and coaches. You don't see that in other sports to that extent. I know people like that friendliness because it keeps these pros close to the community and all, but if the CF Games and other big events gradually become more professional we are going to see more coaches and also athletes with an attitude like that I think.

Have been interested in some of the comments regarding Sara's coaches ... Do you think teams in the NBA, NFL (etc) celebrate when they loose or under perform in a game/season? This is not a high school sports tournament where everyone gets a participation award for showing up. These are athletes competing at high level in a demanding sport where everyone is competitive and wanting to be the best. It takes a championship mentality to win championships. Clearly Sara & her Team have a unique set of skills in order for her rookie year to be of such high impact. You can see the hunger to strive for perfection, greatness and making wise/hard/strategic decisions in the sport. This is something to be admired for the level of sacrifice and commitment. To others it appears as 'cocky' and 'up themselves' however they simply planned, trained and have prepared to expect quality result come game day.

Love the behind the scenes and Sevan gets some amazing reactions out of the athletes. Watching Ben Smith at 19:30 responding with continued humility is very cool. Virtually all of the athletes respond in ways that are human and relatable. When a workout crushes them we relate in small ways, since we have workouts in our gyms that crush up. We see frustration, tears, joy, and athletes enjoying each other and the sport. Looking forward to the upcoming Regionals and Games. Oh and btw, today, Chuck Smith (Ben Smith's dad) deadlifted 600lbs in the Masters Qualifier (oh, yeah, Chuck Smith is in the 50-54 age group!)

Really enjoyed this look "behind the curtain." Thanks. The final events were good tests of fitness, I guess, but they were terrible TV - especially with so many female competitors unable to complete even one pegboard. I recall a *lot* of just standing around during the final event. If you've got ESPN covering your final event live then you *really* need to consider that. The previous year's "three girls" was much better TV, and still an excellent test of fitness.
