It is so hard to believe that this is the same spunky girl i saw as a teen, back in the old days of Battlebots! The fact that they are using past competitors as judges is great, since they know how Battlebots work!

Most underrated material in Battlebots? How about rubber? From tires to isolation mounts, padding, armor (Warhead vs Chomp S3) and even electrical insulation. No other material, that I can think of this instant, performs in so many different critical roles.
@MiniRockerz4ever5 жыл бұрын
underrated would be something only a few robots use, even though it's good
@brianzander70425 жыл бұрын
@@MiniRockerz4ever No, that would be "underutilized". Rubber is underrated because it's often considered trivial, boring or taken for granted and its significance is rarely discussed. There's your English lesson for the day.

The kids who get to take part in things like this are some of the luckiest imaginable. They're all so charming and intelligent, I wish that all children could have such opportunities. I know a lot of people who wouldve benefited greatly by being exposed to more of this high level thinking at a young age, myself included

This Lisa is a legend, I don't understand how you don't have much much more subscribers yet. Thank you for taking us backstage Lisa! There's not much time for that during the actual show so it's cool to see that here. :) Would love to see more of this kind of footage since it's fun and informative. Sometimes I'd wish I could see the bots battle for real, but maybe a part of the 'tv magic' is gone then, however it must still be a superb sight to see. Don't think I'd see myself ever going over there. :') Watched the first new episode a few days ago as I didn't realize the new season started already. I was pleasantly surprised to see you back as a judge, you're the coolest judge they ever had in my opinion. :D The new season also kicked off like fireworks, it was a good show. Especially Quantum was cool to see actually, it seems to be inspired off the old Razer they had on the Robot Wars show, even the wheels are coloured blue... And that the bot managed to use that much force to pierce through the armour was something I was longing for to see for a long time. The (effective) crushers don't seem to be there in high numbers. But do you think you'll return to battling yourself in the foreseeable future? Or aren't there any plans for that for now? Would be awesome if you did return however, I'd 'vote' for you to get to the giant nut, even though it's a tough job to get there. And would you rather do the backstage talks like in this video instead of being the judge in the show? They can use your expertise though. I just hope that Battlebots has many years to come and doesn't get axed like Robot Wars earlier. :/ But something tells me if they quit, it will not be forever, there is a certain charm to these shows and to me the only real tv-worthy fun entertainment shows we still have left today. By the way, I'm third? :-) Have a wonderful day! PS: Hope you're doing well regarding the diet you have to follow now, but you appear to be very healthy so that's a good sign.

Excellent - thanks for the upload! It must be difficult both for you and the competitors conducting an informal (i.e. unrehearsed) interview when there are people nearby, eavesdropping, hanging on your every word, trying to pick up technical details and sneaky operational secrets about their opponents' problems and concerns. ;-) I like this 'workshop' stuff. It brings home the fact that there are people behind the famous machines, not just disinterested video-game programmers with £70,000 graphics workstations; or a film special-effects department with an unlimited budget. These are real people. Look, they're wearing safety goggles! You can just imagine all of those late nights and dropped spanners and skinned knuckles and stale doughnuts and pints of builder's tea (milk, seven sugars) that have gone cold... A lot of people new to robot combat (possibly fans of online gaming where the 'physics' isn't necessarily too realistic), may be unaware of the real-world forces that a modern bot has to withstand. These are 250 lb machines, some of which swing 60 lb kinetic weapons at 200 mph. Think about that for a second, guys! Have you ever picked up a real sledgehammer? What did the head weigh - nine pounds? Eleven? Or was it a proper one of, say, 16 lbs? Hmm. And how fast could you get that head moving? 25 mph? 40 mph, maybe? That wouldn't even put a dent in a modern bot's armour. The robot 'Duck!' would laugh at such a puny effort. Another point: when viewers new to robot combat tut and sneer and criticise builders for not having their machines 100% reliable and battle-ready, it's important to realise that they may not have actually tested them. What, really? Yes, really. Why? Because they CAN'T test them (fully) outside a very expensive combat arena or very expensive weapons-test box. These machines are insanely, frighteningly powerful, and lethally dangerous. They CANNOT be tested properly at home. Oh, checking the drive and steering is safe enough, but everything changes once the main weapon is engaged and run up to speed. Weird things can happen. Unstoppable bits of high-grade tool steel can come loose and trash your neighbour's £200,000 Lamborghini. Or take your kid's head off. Speed controllers can melt; LiPos can explode; servos can freeze; drive sprockets can jam; chains can stretch; welds can fail; weapons can have balance issues. Who knows? Nobody does, and you won't know either, till your bot's been tested fully. By which time it's too late to change things, because it'll be in the combat arena. Two minutes later your lovely bot will be strewn all over the floor in shattered, smoking (costly) fragments. Aw, poo. So... the first bit of useful feedback roboteers get about their building skills and their new robot's durability is after it's been hit - repeatedly - by a 60 lb, 200 mph sledgehammer. Hmm. Yep, we definitely needed to cushion that receiver better. And we needed to support the radio aerial connection with silicone rubber. And the front armour plating needed three more rubber isolation shock-mounts. And the drive chains needed to be fully enclosed, with opposed, sprung aluminium-flanged idler pulleys 8" apart. And the main safety-link needed double duct-taping to stop it coming loose after the bot landed badly after being flung 15 feet into the air. Darn it, why didn't we test that link thing at home? Er, we tried to, but we couldn't hit it hard enough. Well why didn't we just throw the robot up in the air and let it crash-land on the concrete floor a few times? Because it takes two people just to LIFT a 250 lb bot safely, never mind throw it 5 yards into the air. Sigh. Do you want a stale doughnut?
