That's why every time I open a pack I take time to enjoy art in common and uncommon cards. We are usually focused on finding the rarest ones but they deserve our attention and appreciation
@MarielsLabАй бұрын
Absolutely! There's so much time and care put into each card regardless of rarity 😊
@abcdefg-hv2ksАй бұрын
Honestly, I prefer the common cards more. They have so much personality and worldbuilding in them, the sparkly rare cards are just close up shots of the pokemon
@giuliom5785Ай бұрын
@@abcdefg-hv2ks and that's why the only rare cards I collect are the alternative arts which picture pokemon in different scenarios. I hate those 3d soulless models
@CoolMagmarАй бұрын
Yes, collecting them made me see mons in new eyes from the ones I never gave much thought like Phione (aspara), or ones I really dislike like Crabominable (Mitsuhiro Arita). And agree the 3D cards is just so bleh that try to sell mine so at least they kinda help me continue collecting without feeling I'm wasting too much money lol

This is why I collect every card, from common to rare! So much work goes into every illustration and it's so incredibly sad when cards are overlooked because they are common

I like how they care for every simple detail. From the other hand, I think some common cards don't get the attention they need and they are passed to the community as "special series-artwork" , like , "look at these doodle art style cards", and these are just commons from scrap art. What do you think on that?
@MarielsLabАй бұрын
Hmm, an interesting question! If I understood you correctly, I think it just comes down to different art styles - I remember occasionally thinking "how did this art ever make it to an official card", but Creatures seems to value artists with unique styles, the art director actually says something along those lines in the magazine. And they really seem to care about the consistent quality too, so I find it hard to believe they'd intentionally give us bad art 😅

I love that they've even started doing illustration contests for the cards. I think I'd be over the moon if I got to have my art on a card. Super engaging video btw. You definitely deserve more subscribers.

As an indie card game dev, I can fully appreciate this. There's no way I can afford to put anywhere near 3 months behind a single image. I wish I could.

i like your video, and I'm really intrigued by what the process is like for the cards designed by Yuka Morii, since she models the Pokemon in clay and photographs them, what the art concepts or corrections will be like.
@MarielsLab28 күн бұрын
Ohh now I wish I had asked her! I've actually been lucky enough to meet her once and I know she has separate people for the backgrounds and photography, but it didn't occur to me to ask about the revision process 😅 But I would imagine it's similar to Asako Ito's process (and we can at least see her "sketch" in the video), since they both work with making 3D objects :) There's also this video where Morii teaches people to make a clay Magnemite and the clay seems to dry pretty quickly, so my best guess would be that she needs to make multiple full versions of each model! kzbin.info/www/bejne/m4DVhGiQbraka7s

Is so fascinating to me how card art tends to be made like they sadly if not the best of the best are quite forgotten but still you see from many series how care went to them. And knowing how much focus they give to the text not affect the art makes me wonder if the Spiritomb by Hitoshi Ariga, was intentional when they put that two darkness energy symbols in that place, because at least for me makes it quite silly (in a good way love that card)
