Food service is DIFFICULT! Worked in it in college and NEVER AGAIN! Wait staff have it THE WORST! DEALING WITH IRATE CUSTOMERS! I cooked, cleaned, dealt with the LIFERS who made a career of staying in the university food services and were cruel to the students and I dealt with the raunchy ENTITLED STUDENTS WHO ARGUED WITH ME AND I WAS ONE OF THEM!! NEVER AGAIN!! HATED IT! Cleaning out this GIGANTIC SOUP OR LIQUID HEATING METALLIC INDUSTRIAL BOWL THAT FIT TWO FOOTBALL PLAYERS IN IT AT ONE TIME! And the heating implement was the size of my big toe! It heat up the entire bowl in five minutes!!! FIVE/5 MINUTES! It had this big arm to tip it to pour the hot liquid for cleaning. You had to be SUPER AWARE OF HOW HOT IT WAS AND THE DAMAGE IT COULD DO TO YOU OR ANYONE IF YOU WERE NOT CAREFUL! AND IT HAD TO BE POLISHED TO A HIGH SHEEN OR YOU HAD TO KEEP CLEANING IT! NOTHING COULD BE STUCK ON ANYTHING! We had a program where you could obtain a degree in hotel and restaurant management (RHI). It was taken seriously. So, that pot was only one of MANY INDUSTRIAL FOOD EQUIPMENT WE were using for food services. Grills, deep fryers. Made A TON OF PORK RINDS FROM THOSE HARD PINK AND YELLOW PELLETS AND CLEANED THAT THING. Drained the oil once a week and cleaned all the pieces from it and scrubbed it down and wiped the outside down with the approved cleaners and filled it back up with the filtered oil. Also cleaned the grill where the eggs were made, grilled cheese sandwiches, steaks, which was on a "rare" occasion. I also worked as an ice cream attendant and cleaned the ice cream machine. I made AWESOME DIP CONES. I knew how to pack the ice cream in the waffle cones or Belgian pointy cones prior to the dip and I was good at the curl at the top. That was easy peasy. Steaming the veggies wasn't difficult either. Keeping the floor clean from slip was the hardest part. My coworkers didn't care and were sloppy. That made me angry. But, I learned I NEVER WANTED TO BE IN FOOD SERVICE BECAUSE PEOPLE DIDN'T TREAT YOU WITH RESPECT. I agree about the need for gloves. We wore gloves for EVERYTHING! I was teased when I wore them to wash dishes. I was later diagnosed with severe Eczema. So terrible that I had to have light therapy treatment because my skin broke open and my hands feet and a part near my nose was bleeding. The gloves helped as does keeping skin moisturized. And a layer of protection between the skin and whatever you are touching is an excellent barrier. My first encounter at a Subway franchise was met with blood on my sandwich. I looked under the bread to see if mayo was added and I found that a drop of blood was added instead. 😅. The owner... she was so mean and grouchy. She was having a really bad day. Well, she happened to make my sandwich and she cut her finger. Perhaps that's why she wasn't in a good mood. She saw me in line AGAIN and copped a tude immediately! I said, "I wanted to make sure I didn't have mayo on my sandwich, but I did find something a little extra." And I sort of hid it from all the other people because I didn't want to embarrass her. I took the top off and she just about fainted. I HAD TAKEN A FEW BITES FROM THE SANDWICH AND I COULD HAVE EATEN A DROPLET OR TWO OF HER BLOOD? But, to me it was kind of funny. She was COMPLETELY MORTIFIED!! All I wanted was a new sandwich, sans blood droplets and for her to get several band aids and perhaps one of those finger covers for protection. My friends said to sue. It was an accident. My friend said I could become infected with AIDs. LORDY! ALL I WANTED WAS A NEW SANDWICH AND NOT TO EMBARRASS HER. She had an injury and I'm sure she wasn't feeling all that great either. Her finger was probably throbbing. She was so apologetic. I told her it was fine. I hope she was okay and didn't need stitches and I thanked her for making a new sandwich for me. Poor lady. She was having a bad day and it got worse. I am still laughing about it years later. It was funny to me. Poor lady. She resembled a beauty consultant more than a Subway franchise owner. Plus, this was when Subway franchises were kinda new. She's probably a millionaire if she sold at the right time. With NO BLOOD on her sandwiches unless requested 🤣😂🤣😊😉❤ and ALWAYS WEAR GLOVES! That is my motto!

I worked as a server for 7 years when I was younger. I have so much respect for the back of the house. Customers pay the bills but many can be very needy and whiny with multiple modifications to orders. Cooks and chefs figure out a way to make it work most of the time. It’s not an easy job when 10 orders come in all at the same time. I will never forget my experience in the restaurant business. I learned many valuable lessons there about people and camaraderie that I will bring with me for the rest of my life. Now, I always take care of my server when a good job is done when I go out to eat. The BOH never gets enough respect. Thank you for your hard work.

He's not only a cook, but he's also a therapist! Maybe that chick should try picking up the orders and getting them to the customers before they get stone cold rather than complain to her coworkers who don't give a shit about her f***ed up relationship. I can't believe those orders sat there that long. That's absolutely ridiculous. If I was the customer that received one of those meals it would be going back.

Man I worked at IHOP in Richmond county NC and the workers were bullshit it would take them an hour to put out five baby mommas wearing bacon and eggs and then the waitress would literally drop it half way out the kitchen smh I wish I would have had a bad ass coworker like yourself cause life could have been easy..... I left bc of the toxic bs going on and the poor management. Luckily I was able to jump into a grand opening of a jersey Mike's and the team here is top notch primo. Keep up the great work

@@raneisharobinson6921 unorganized isn't even the word.... Disgusting poorly managed would be a start.... The management has even screwed employees out of pay on top of everything else. I started working in Jan of 23 I didn't receive pay till Feb 15 23 when I asked about my pay they told I was paid for all hours I clocked in. Well when we started they were having issues with wifi (come to find out they weren't paying a number of bills including water and wifi) and the manager missy had our phone numbers messed up in their system which wouldn't allow you to sign into the app that literally pays you and bc of that we couldn't log into their system (in hindsight this seems to be on purpose to not have to pay people sounds crazy but this all really happened) so now I've been ignored since i left the job. They owe me for half of February and all of January..... No answer of course....

@@zigzag2370 Sounds kind of like my experience with Carl's Jr. Applied for an Asst Mgr position, and got hired. Then immediately rejected, with the application deleted. Called by the location manager to come in for in person interview. Hired. Told their system was messing up, and they'd have to put me in as a Team Lead first. Fine. Told the shift, they didn't mention AM or PM, so I assumed 10am - 6pm, as a Store Manager would usually work the morning shift in every other customer service job I've ever worked. Nope. 10pm - 6am. Then, noticed they put me in the system as a REGULAR employee, no asst mgr, no team lead, store associate, making $9/hr, not the $12 they were advertising, and certainly not the $16 I had been promised. Quit on the spot.

PSA- Health inspectors typically deduct points from a food establishment's inspection score if kitchen workers are not wearing gloves while handling food. However, it is important to note that the use of gloves is just one of many food safety practices that inspectors evaluate during their inspections. Inspectors also assess factors such as food storage, cooking temperatures, handwashing, and the general cleanliness of the kitchen and food preparation areas.

@@MrMeat347 it stops you from sneezing on the food or if you got a runny nose or if you cough and spit flys out. also gloves are way more sanitary than washing and theyre more efficient since you dont gotta go wash them for like 30 sec or a minute which is the rule, you just gotta switch out gloves depending on what you touch or how long you wear them, takes like 10 sec
