I remember that game too. That was when Joe Johnson had two buzzer beaters in the same game,

The 'conversion' from ice to basketball or concerts (and then return to ice) must be very expensive. I remember in the late 70s and early 80s Maple Leaf Gardens put-down thick pre-cut plywood on top of the ice surface for concerts. Yes, it was cold if you were sitting there and for concerts that played during the winter months you kept your winter jacket on for the entire show. Barclay's conversion is nonetheless impressive.

2:20 Surely they don't tear up the ice after every game. My guess is that the only reason they happened to tear up the ice this time was because they mentioned an extra layer of ice and a Disney show. Most likely, they put an extra layer down for Disney on Ice, then when the show was over, they wouldn't have been able to simply remove that extra layer of ice, so they just scrapped it all to start fresh the next time there was a hockey game.

why get rid of the ice at all?? unless they had nothing scheduled for a while involving the ice so why bother wasting electricity keeping the freezers on and keeping the ice frozen. that's the only way it makes sense

+Mike C I assume they would preserve the ice now, with the Islanders in the building. This upload is dated March, 2013...a couple of years before the Isles moved in.

My guess is that since they said they had a couple of Disney shows (which most likely means Disney on Ice) and they mentioned something about an extra layer of ice, they normally do what other arenas do and leave it there all season, but this time they just melted it all to start from scratch since they had already put that second layer of ice for the Disney show.

Know fact every stage hand around the country hates working in the Barclays. The worst place to load in a show.
