Great interview. This is why i love hayley. Not only is she a great music artist but she’s also a very outspoken and intelligent person. It’s so strange when she speaks about having imposter syndrome because I’ve always looked at her and thought she was such a skillful and accomplished person, especially in comparison to myself. It’s weird how no matter how successful you are your own mind can sabotage you.

Isn't that a shallow advice? Besides the fact that it's impossible to achieve and a quite naive way of thinking about the history of your own psychology, there is great merit in taking other peoples opinions into consideration to form your own. If there wasn't merit in doing it, there would not be so many people doing it for so long. Everything comes with a price and you gotta chose how much you pay. And it's NOT black or white.

@@casaninchiify as long as you’re not hurting anyone, what’s wrong with being true to yourself? When you stop working on that which you find valuable or silence how you express yourself for other people, you’re letting yourself get beaten down. Of course you should be able to acknowledge when you may be hurting yourself in the process, but no one knows you better than you. Be loud, be proud, and die having lived with intention.

There's a lot of things you can't measure in this life, but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Love, hate, grit, inspiration, shame and guilt .. how do you quantify these things? Doesn't NOT caring about what others think, mean you actually care what they think enough to *not* think about them? I think its a delicate balance of being true to yourself and not harming others in the process by listening to their concerns (if valid)

Hayley's been always a figure i look up to in a way, even when i kinda understand the pressure that means for her sometimes. But i always thought i wanted her confidence because i tend to be very insecure. I even stopped writing for about two years because i thought whatever i tried was a dissapointment compared with my first published story. I thought everybody would think i just got lucky and that they would see i'm a failure. This video came to me on a dark time for me and it made me realize i'm not alone. Now, so far my stories haven't been picked ever again, but i got back to writing anyway because that's what i like to do, and the first contest i won kinda made me forget that. I'm not trying to win some contest or satisfy somebody else. What i want to do is to write stories i love. But it took me a while to get back to that mindset. Thank you for posting this, thank you for having Hayley on the show, and thank you Hayley, if you ever read this.

i dream of becoming a comic book artist. Last week i couldn't figure out how to layout 4 pages for a project due today (granted this was just the latest occurence of my own imposter syndrome). I was so depressed because the same day i saw my friend's previous project (who is a little older than me and has quite a bit more experience than i do) and i became instantly jealous of the work that he did, as i often do with what he makes. We're drawing superhero comics, which is what i wanna work on for a living and to see him do such a better job than i did (to my eyes at least), made me feel like: "oh what am i even doing here". For the whole day i was supposed to work on the layouts i couldn't figure out anything and i was reconsidering my entire dream of becoming a comic book artist. When i told my parent they said i had a choice. The next day we had to deliver our initial layouts and i didnt want to face my competition, i wanted to skip the lesson and avoid it, probably proceed with a slow process towards dropping out but somehow (and i don't know what kept me going) but i participated and showed what i had, as lackluster as it was. The weird thing is, in the following days, i worked on making probably some of the best pages i've ever made, and some of the first i can put in my portfolio and show to some publishers. When i look back i think to what i would've left behind had i abandoned and i wouldn't have forgiven myself had i done that. I feel better now but that doesn't mean i won't feel like shit again.
