All petrolheads have to own a Lotus at some point, over all other cars. If you are a 'true' petrolhead and put the thrill of driving above all other facets of driving then the Lotus has to be experienced, even over a Porsche.

Totally agree cars like the MX5, GT86, Polo GTI are the true fun, involving drivers cars full of character, that are perfect for driving hard on the road. The answer is not necessarily always a GT4 or M2 comp or some exotic, because these are all too fast to drive hard or anywhere near their limits on public roads, nice as they are....

Alfa Romeo are beautiful and I aspire to own one. However, in N. America there’s only two engine options - the 4-cylander or the Quadrafoglio. The 4-cylinder is fine for a base model, sure. But once you spec it up it just doesn’t compare to the competition. There needs to be an intermediary engine which offers better performance.

Cayman or M car? Good call! Had E46 M3 for 9 years &:now e92 manual M3 Monte Carlo for 10 years. Never had Cayman but wife got a Boxster. 360 manual pretty decent also.

On the topic of the project 7, the one you were looking at in South Africa (and drove during your time in Cape Town) recently sold for R1.5 million (roughly £75k), which is an absolute bargain in my eyes... I’m not sure how much import duties would’ve cost to get it to the UK but what a deal that would’ve been! Just thought you might be interested to know

I think a BMW M3 is a must. Either the E30, E46 or E92 with V8. Also a Porsche 911. An old Corvette, either C2 or 1969-70 C3 big block. Honda S2000 and Subaru WRX STi.

I am literally foaming at the mouth about the Giulia..... Someone please, if you're considering an M3/C63, go and help those guys in Turin out and just buy a Giulia Quadrifoglio. I am sick of there not being more of them on the road. It is THE BEST, BEST, BEST super-saloon/sedan of the last 10 years and the most forgotten because of the Germans.... I'm only 19 and I live in the most expensive city in the whole world to buy a car. So I probably won't get to own one from new, so I can't help them. Alfa Romeo are finally making great cars and if they pull the plug on the Giulia due to struggling sales, I don't know what I'll do...... All I know is that it will be my first and only ICE car. Also, nice to see the G80/G82 is getting some love.

@@davidmusil4145 Sigh…. Okay, that is true, but the Giulia has spoken to me like no other has in the 5 years I’ve been into cars. No other car has grabbed my heart in such a massive way, so much so I’m now a self-titled “Giulia fanboy”…. 😂 Okay, I’ll calm down for a bit. Yes, they do go wrong, but when I get a Giulia, I will drive it mainly for fun. Weekend blast, road trip, occasional use to go from A to B in a hurry, cause public transport is so good and improving even further where I live, owning a car is becoming increasingly unnecessary. So I’ll take care of her, make sure to get the best used one I can find and enjoy myself before I have my EV sports car, or whatever comes next.

Money no object: SLR McLaren. I know the brakes are on/off and the automatic is old, but it's a bargain compared to the Enzo or the Carrera GT, and the noise and the sidepipes are enthralling. In black, it's a proper villains car.

No that Tony is ever wrong but the 675LT was sold out in 2 weeks and selling for £100k premiums. Today its still the best supercar out there and best McLaren since F1. As the original and best LT the 675LT will be a guaranteed future classic and highly collectable. Its the equivalent of Ferrari's 360 Challenge Stradale. 675LT prices have bottomed out, very few are available on the market and prices are definitely on the rise. In next couple of years these cars will be back close to list price. I'll have a 675LT spider in Napier green if I win the Euro millions and money is no object

McLarens are like next generation Ferrari's they are so far ahead of the game. Far too many people enjoy bashing them but 99% have never driven one or own a competitive brand car and dont like the new kid on the block. No that Tony is ever wrong but whilst mcLaren cocked up with the 600LT by building far too many of the things circa 3,500 worldwide there are not that many 765LTs in the UK so they will hold their value and be more like £300k in 3 years than £200k in 2 years. TBH the McLaren to buy is the 675LT at current used car prices as you will make money
