This game has a special place in my heart as it’s not only the first Spider-Man game I played but also the first video game I ever played. Which is why I can’t bring myself to ever hate it in anyway even if I can see flaws like repetitive gameplay.

the black suit changes two things: 1. it definitely does more damage, i'm sure of it. spider-man felt much stronger the moment i got it. 2. it changes spider-man's ground pound animation. instead of pulling himself to the ground with a web, he slams himself on the ground with his fists. it's not entirely cosmetic but it does feel like it is.

It changes his combos too. Regular spider man uses kicks, punches and acrobatics for mixups. Black suit spiderman is just raw brute strength

I had the PSP version of the game as a Teen. Carnage was only unlockable via playing the game through Co-op. All of my friends didn't have a PSP apart from myself so i was never able to play as him

Dude I love this game. I love all the Spider-Man games up to a certain point. But I was also a kid when it dropped. I still play it and it holds up but I really do miss small games like that. They still exist but not for IP I care about.

Fantastic job on this retrospective. You covered it well with how I feel about Friend or Foe today. This game is still unique and interesting to me. As a kid, the character designs were the first thing that stood out to me. I've always really liked them. Like man, I think this Raimi Spider-Man is my favorite looking one out of all the games it's been in. Especially in that opening cinematic, I'd watch a whole animated show or movie in that style. The more lighthearted tone works well here. I also like James Arnold Taylor as the voice while I think Iceman will always be my favorite Marvel character he voices. It's a little sad we don't get Spider-Man games similar to this, Shattered Dimensions or SM2002 anymore. A more linear, beat 'em up adventure. I enjoy the open world superhero games as much as the next person, but something simple and level-based I welcome too. Like I did have fun playing that Deadpool game. Friend or Foe isn't anything worth seeking out to play nowadays but I played it at just the right age that it sits alright with me. I would really love a collection of this and the other Raimi games remastered if it were possible.

This game takes place on Earth-71002. Silver Sable is also available at the beginning of the game in the PC version. In this universe, Prowler works for her. Also, did you see that Spectacular Spider-Man teaser within this game?

This video was fun and very well edited. Great job making it. It's kind of sad that I skipped out on this game when it came out because it didn't look extravagant and cinematic but now decades later I prefer video games that focus more on the game part instead of spectacle cutscenes and expansive stories since those are more time sinks.

I remember going to a video game store and the trailer for this game was on loop on their monitor and my eyes were glued to it. The animation was so good and seeing the raimi designs in that form added to that amazement, I wanted the game so bad. Finally got it on PSP and I was just happy to play spiderman and the villains that I didn't care that it was repetetive.

fyi there is a webswinging mechaninic where you double jump then hold the jump button. Blackcat can also do it, though its a grapplinghook, the goblins use their gliders, sandman becomes a sand cloud. I cant remeber what Doc Ock, Blade, Ironfist, or Lizard could do but im pretty sure every character had an similar movement option

I’ve always loved this game! Me and my friend Matthew would play both the story and versus mode all the time back when we were kids. While I can understand why it’s not loved by everyone else with how basic and bare bones the game ultimately is, I don’t think it doesn’t deserve any hate either.

This is one of the best and most fun Spider-Man games I’ve ever played when I was a kid and it’s still holds a special place in my even if it’s a mediocre game at best, playing co-op with spidey villains was such a fresh experience as we’ll never have them playable if it’s made another way. I’m gutted that it will never be ported to modern hardware because I would have keeped this game in my library and play with anyone even my future kids. I laughed so hard everytime I steal an enemy that my brother and friends were targeting ruining their combo and we would do that to each other all the time to see who gets the highest score each level😂

Friend or Foe to me I remember loving simply for the fact that I just wanted to play a Spider-Man game with pretty much ALL the villains, it's not an innovative game, or even one I would say is all that good, but it's something that I genuinenly enjoyed as a kid who just wanted a chance to play as the villains. Overall I think this game is good for young children with a love for the Rami movies and also Spider-Man's rouges gallary, who also don't want something too difficult to handle. A servicable game that you can have a soft spot for if you need a niche.

I'll have to get my hands on this one someday. I at least appreciate that they had a Spider-Man game with Prowler as a playable character. Not to mention, a lot of mainstay villains like Venom, Green Goblin and Doc Ock. I also don't mind Spider-Man games being more straight forward and not just open-world. That's why the Neversoft games or Shattered Dimensions were cool. Though I would still say that SM2 and Ultimate Spider-Man are the best of the PS2/Gamecube/X-Box era.

@@DiegoReviews In hindsight that makes more sense. I still think Tobey's in game lines in Spider-Man 2 and 3 are actually good. I actually really like him in Spider-Man 3.

I own all 3 versions of Friend Or Foe. My favorite version is the PSP version. Developed Artificial Mind & Movement (Dead By Daylight, Dante's Inferno) it has the same levels as the console but they're all redone with new layouts/designs and are more bite sized which personally works better here as the levels in the console version go on a bit too long so they drag out some what. They also added an all new exclusive level in the PSP version, The Underground Temple. Speaking of exclusives it also has 2 new playable characters in Electro & Carnage which is awesome. The boss battles are also fought a bit differently in this version and are done slightly better here IMO. Overall Friend Or Foe in general is nowhere near great, but it's a serviceable Spidey game for the younger set.

After recently playing through this game for the very first time, I really think it should've taken some cues from the LEGO games, done some actual puzzles with buttons instead of just having you press them to progress, had more collectibles and hidden them better, given certain characters unique abilities you could use to reach additional areas when replaying levels... and also maybe not permanently locked one player to Spider-Man even after you've beaten the game.

One thing that bugs me about the game is how the other villains (except Mysterio) don't really have unique designs, they're just really classic looking I always loved how the Raimi movie games had classic villains with different designs like Mysterio and Rhino and loved imagining it as an extension of the movies

As the guy who grew up playing old school beat'em up games, such as Double Dragon or Streets of Rage I can say that I like Spider-Man Friend or Foe. Sure, it could become boring if you play it for too long, but if you beating it with breaks with not too long sessions, it will be fine. I played PC version of the game and outside of Carnage and Electro, I had all of the exclusive characters available to me. So yeah, the game is not bad in my opinion. But if you don't like these type of games then you might just skip them. I played this game a lot when I was in my teenage years. I played it with my friends, alone and it was fun.

Spider-Man's voice in this game sounds too much like Ratchet's from Ratchet & Clank (same voice actor BTW). I would've preferred it if they got either Quinton Flynn (who voiced him in Marvel Ultimate Alliance 1) or Neil Patrick Harris (who voiced him in The New Animated Series and the Amazing Spider-Man in Shattered Dimensions) to voice Spidey in this game, because every time Spidey talks, I keep thinking about Ratchet and not the web-slinger himself.

Yeah The banter between Spider-Man and the villains in gameplay was cool but the one thing that Friend or Foe lacks which made the LEGO games special is what Diego talks about There aren't any character exclusive puzzles or enemies to do. In the LEGO games there are segments in levels which could only be done by a specific character and it played a part in the replayability of those games The LEGO Marvel games execute Friend or Foe's concept better despite FOF having better combat
