My Model D just arrived and, as a synth newcomer, I was a bit baffled by it. Your intro videos are easily the most informative on youtube and helped tremendously. Thanks!

ABSOLUTELY KILLER & Stellar walkthrough & Explanation of this unit! The Behringer Model D was my first Analog HARDWARE Synthesizer purchase 2 years ago, and I still feel like a kid in a candy store every single time I sit down to play on it or noodle about. I've since bought myself the Behringer MS-1 for Christmas 2020 and last week the Behringer K-2 ~ They all have their own unique sounds & functions. And since there's no way I can afford (right now) the original gear, I for one am incredibly happy with my purchases, and glad Behringer went on their cloning Bender the last several years. Politics aside; it's about the music AND the gear. I certainly have strong opinions on some of the ridiculous things they've done, such as the 'Swing' 🤦‍♂️ but again, to me, the music & actually being able to afford this gear is totally separate from the politics & poor social media response & such. Anyway. Love your channel. Love your content. Very granular walkthroughs, in-depth & detailed information, and - you ALWAYS have FANTASTIC musical elements & non-talking breaks in your videos. Cheers!

Is this just as good sounding as the AJH minimod stuff in your opinion but without the more extensive CV functionality?

somebody shot this out against an actual model d, and you can recreate the same sounds exactly with it. The problem with it though is the oscillators drift fucking horribly, at first my was perfectly in tune when centered, now the main oscillator has drifted to the number 2 setting being in tune, and every time you switch octaves for the oscillators, you have to retune them, theres no live switching of octaves with this synth.

Had the same de(un)tuned OSC 2&3. I sent it to Behringer to tune, took about a week. You can tune them by yourself, there is a new online manual with a detailed tuning tutorial.

I'm coming at this from a modular context. So I think it offers enough connectivity for what I imagine is 90% of it's market.

Hi, great video, really helped me get my head around the model in in no time. One thing I'm having trouble with is getting the A440 switch to change note priority etc. Would you be able to do a quick demo of the options you can get from the A440 swithch. thanks dave

Hi Dave, I've barely used this over MIDI at all so I can't really comment on that functionality. I remember testing it then moving on after testing the unit initially. What does the manual say about it?
@precarious333

Amazing value even if you just buy for use as OSC bank within eurorack. Crazy good deal. I should also point out, you can always add deeper frequency modulation by mixing the pitch CV with modulating VCO *before* feeding into Model D input. ;)
@DivKid
@DivKid 6 жыл бұрын
this is true, mixing modulation is key to a load of really cool patches.

interesting idea but I don't think they're currently interested in the smaller market for totally modular gear. But I haven't spoken to them about that so I can't really say anything about it.

When I look at a software oscilloscope it looks much more curvy with the square waves. Like square - ish but with a ramp on one end... I wonder why yours looks so perfect.
@DivKid
@DivKid 5 жыл бұрын
are you looking on a software scope? With the audio going through a sound card? If so it could be some DC removal through the AD converters. If you're monitoring the main output rather than the mix output you'll be running through the low pass filter which will be taking a bit of the edge off.

How about changing the oscillator range while playing? Is it smooth? I’ve watched some videos and the reviewer said that there is a not really nice sounding click? In my tracks I plan to change the range is this bothering ? Making it not usable ?

Great demo!! Is it possible to achieve Sample & Hold by routing white noise to the frequency, or is it not that simple?
@DivKid
@DivKid 6 жыл бұрын
It's not that simple. A sample and hold is a separate circuit on it's own. That needs an input, a trigger to tell it when to sample and a output that holds the value at the input when it's triggered until another trigger captures another sound at the input.

Thanks for the vid - very informative. The rising / falling saw waves seem to match the legend on the control of VCO3 when modulating VCO1.. did you put VCO3 waves into the oscilloscope too?
@DivKid
@DivKid 6 жыл бұрын
Hi E, I found the issue, which is the phase of the mix output is inverted. I added this to the video description to rectify it. "PLEASE NOTEI mentioned in the video that some of the waves were inverted. I've since noticed that it's only the mixer's direct output that is inverted. So the falling / rising ramp issue is solved and the negative only square/pulse waves are not in fact negative. But ... they are still unipolar waves that go from 0 volts to +2 volts."

Informative. Thank you. One correction, that little symbol you call "foot" is actually the musical symbol for octave called "prime" meaning fundamental or original. The numbers are a multiple of 8 because there are 8 diatonic or scale steps between each octave. One of the few things on a synth that carried over from the old organ days. Sorry for going full music geek on you.
@DivKid
@DivKid 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Jose, musical geek is usually my territory so I like and appreciate that. With oscillators that's always referred to as "feet / foot" so I stuck with that term. I didn't realise it's origins in musical terms. I thought that was too with organ draw bars and the size of organs / waveform lengths etc. Good to know some history behind it. Cheers :)

Do you have the main volume out to full?
@DivKid
@DivKid 6 жыл бұрын
I'm not coming out of the main output, I'm coming directly out of the mix output. What made you ask? Maybe there's another question that may clear something up.
@Wanttoknowabout
@Wanttoknowabout 6 жыл бұрын
Ah, ok. I see that now. I am new to modular, but I had been wondering about your signal being between +/- 2V. And I was wondering if this would be dependent on the main volume. If I understand it right, the line out voltage is dependent on the main volume, but is this the case for the mix out?
@DivKid
@DivKid 6 жыл бұрын
No problem we all start somewhere and I certainly had lots of questions when I got into modular. Line level is typical 1V peak to peak. Eurorack levels tend to be around 10V peak to peak going from -5V to +5V. So interfacing is really key to making the most out of everything. On the D - The mix out is eurorack levels, unaffected by the main output. One VCO was around 2V though by design and that's because once you stack the oscillator and add the option to mix in another signal and noise you'll each clip and reach the peak of the system above 10V. So in my mind it's as it should be.
