I am 74. I bought a Jupiter 6 when it was either it or the Sequential Circuits offering that had MIDI. I believe it was 1982 or 83. I had gone to some Roland workshops 2 years before and saw sequencing for the the first time. I had talked to Dave Smith before MIDI was adopted and I was give the heads up to wait.I was convinced from what I seen and heard that Synths, MIDI and Sequencing would kill the guitar, kill session work for soundtracks, TV commercials ...you name it. Keep in mind none of the equipment existed. There were no PC software or interfaces or MIDI in 81!!! I was a guitarist as well. I did not play keys or know how a keyboard was laid out vs. a guitar. LOL I just thought I could be a pioneer of it all or a victim of it. I borrowed Mini Moog from a friend who only used it on Saturday night gigs. I taught myself to program patches and then taught others how as my gig. I found eventually with Synths and sequencers that I did not need any 'chops' to make Industrial Commercials. Basically Infomercials for glamorous things like 'Boxcars' lol My best gigs were soundtracks for tourism commercials. As equipment prices etc. fell there became a glut of competition. I was no longer special. lol Soon there was no work and what there was paid bady. I went back to the guitar :-( But I now have a power trio doing my own material that is doing well. I would love put a bit of Mini Moog into it. So here I am!

Yeah I just bought one of these model D's. It's kind of like um wow. I'm completely blown away. I've got it midi to a matching pair of high-end Casio digital synths. A mixer board. A ring modulator. A nice stereo module. and again I totally Blown Away. it also helps the cat to decide to leave me alone for the day. Lol. I found that it is incredible to fade wet and dry between digital and analog. I don't think it could get any better than this. Good job with your video too and you give me some really good points on my first analog.

Definitely the best demonstration of this synth i have seen. You made some sort of dreamy trip hop song and it's striking how the bass and leads are so ageless and fit perfectly beyond the funk, soul, disco, soundtrack, and even house styles that spring to mind when thinking about this synth (or the original Minimoog). Since you got the MIDI tracks I'd love to see how other synths can be programmed to play that exact same song. That would be very interesting to hear the same voices as synthesized by, for instance, a Minilogue, Grandmother, a DeepMind 6, a Minibrute 1 & 2, and a Neutron. Would the Grandmother sound even better? Would the Minibrutes sound totally different but interesting in their own right?

If there is a midi control number in the D then assign to the pedal in the Axiom manually press the pedal and number will show usually 11 is default and you will have to change it to the control in the d. If berhinger does not midi controls then you will have to patch the exp pedal directly to the d with adapter since expression pedals are change in voltage or get a mooger fooger pedal mf-101.

Great video btw just got one of these today and have been having a lot of fun with it. I see you were plugging your expression pedal into your MIDI controller, and I don't know what sort it is, so I'd need more information. Does your MIDI controller (keyboard) normally respond to that pedal? There are two different main wiring standards for them, but sometimes there's a mode switch to let a pedal work with either standard. I was under the impression the Model D filter could only be controlled by CV, not by sending a CC - someone correct me, if that's not the case. Does you controller have the ability to produce a CV?
@TooSlowTube6 жыл бұрын
Not sure if it's something you'd want to do, but I could suggest a way of making a DIY box to let you make a CV with your expression pedal; You'd need a box with a 1/4" TRS jack socket, a smallish resistor and a 3.5mm mono jack socket, plus a way of feeding it 12V, so lets say a 2.1mm/5.5mm power socket, like on a guitar pedal. The resistor is to avoid damage to your power supply when you plug or unplug things - big enough to protect it from a short, but small enough not to have a significant effect on the signal, say 100 Ohms should be fine. Assuming the pedal is wired with the tip of the 1/4" TRS plug to the wiper of its pot and the sleeve and ring to either end of the track of the pot, take +12V from the power socket, via the smallish resistor, to the ring connection of the 1/4" TRS socket. Wire the sleeve contact of the 1/4" socket to the sleeve contact of the 3.5mm mono jack socket and the ground connection of the power socket, and wire the two tip contacts of the sockets together. The other way the pedal might be wired is with the ring wired to the wiper of the pot, and the two ends of the track wired to the tip and sleeve - it would be best if you could check, with a multimeter. Either way, wire the box to match - ground goes to the sleeve, 12V goes where it needs to go to connect to the other end of the track (through the safety resistor), then the signal is taken from where it needs to come from (tip or ring of the 1/4" jack), to the tip connection of the 3.5mm mono jack socket. This makes more sense if you sketch the connections on a piece of paper. Feed power to the box and the Model D via a guitar pedal daisy chain / power splitter lead - I'm assuming the Model D power socket is the same sort, but I've never seen one, so you might need some other sort of adapter. Plug the expression pedal into the new box, and run a 3.5mm patch lead from it to the filter cut off CV input of the Model D.... Maybe try it with a multimeter first, to see what voltage you're getting, as you move the pedal Maybe close the filter with the cut off knob, so you notice the effect, or close it half way so you can check you can open or close it with the pedal. If there's a limit on the size of the CV you're allowed to feed it, you'll need a larger resistor in series with the track of the pot in the pedal - not just the small safety one. E.g. if you want to limit it to 6V, use a resistor the same value as the track of the pot - measure it, with a multimeter. It's easy enough to swap a resistor later, so I'd probably start with that. If you want to increase the voltage, you could just solder a smaller resistor in parallel, afterwards.
@StephenLearson6 жыл бұрын
TooSlowTube I tried plugging it into the CV but I think it needs a powered signal.
@TooSlowTube6 жыл бұрын
Yep. As per my much longer post, you'd need to take the 12V going into the module (e.g. with a power splitter cable), and feed it into a powered adapter box. It would just be wiring and a resistor though - less complicated than I probably made it sound.
@StephenLearson6 жыл бұрын
TooSlowTube thanks for the suggestions. If I make any headway I’ll let you know ;)
@TooSlowTube6 жыл бұрын
You're welcome, Steve. I've since managed to get hold of one, and made a start on reading the manual. They give the allowed CV ranges in the Specifications section, and it's 0-5V, for the filter cut off. They also say to stay within the specifications, so... A resistor would work, but a 5V regulator would work better, and would still give 5V out with different spec pedals (i.e. different value pots, in the pedals). There are some nice small modules on ebay, for a couple of dollars, which can give you 5V from the 12V supply. I'd still use a smallish resistor between that and the power connection to the pedal socket though. When you plug a jack plug in, you tend to short the adjacent connnections together. A 100 Ohm resistor still seems reasonable - that would give you 50mA (from 5V / 100 Ohms) if you shorted it out, which won't damage anything. I may try it myself, soon. I bought some salvaged mod and pitch bend wheels, on ebay, recently.

Good. Thanks. I read that part of the manual, after seeing your video, and I still wasn't sure. It does seem error prone. I prefer it to the way Arturia did it with the Minibrute though - you need their software and a USB cable to change those sort of settings, so it's going to be a problem in the future, after upgrading or ditching Windows. Presumably Arturia used sysex, but they never revealed the codes, AFAIK.

Excellent. I'm glad it worked for you, Steve. I expect all that's "explained" in the manual, but I have to admit, I can't make much sense of some of it. Those two switches don't appear on any patch sheets I've seen, for the original, so maybe not.
