Very cool. I just found your channel yesterday as I ordered a OP-Z. I love the sound of the Model D and I've thought about getting one considering their amazing price. I probably should wait a bit since the OP-Z is going to be a lot to wrap my head around for now. :D I've played guitar for the past 35+ years and syths are pretty new to me. It seems like the Model D would be a good platform to learn more while getting those classic sounds. Glad to see you post this video!

Awesome, glad to have you on board! The OP-Z is a beast and a half, learning to tame it is a fantastic time! Let me know if you've got questions :) And I can already say that the model d is a great place to start, still a little overwhelming, but definitely manageable!

Looking forward for more ... I would like to see a video tutorial of the op z controlling this little beast ... congrats on your purchase

Thanks! Once I get the op lab module that will definitely happen!

There is still so much more you can get out of the Volca, but I look forward to hearing what you get out of the Model D.

Stoked to hear some jams with this. Does the OP-Z have a midi out? You could potentially use it to sequence the Model D and make a faaat bassline and play around with the filter and oscillators and such while using the drums and a lead synth and pads on the OP-Z itself. Its gonna be so much fun man.
@FreeBeat4 жыл бұрын
It does! For now, I would have to use my key step to convert from USB midi to a 5 pin, but in the future if I pick up the OP lab module I can go straight into the model d. Pretty excited about the possibilities!

Behringer are making some awesome budget gear. I've not long had the Crave. I also have the TD-3 as well as a few behringer pedals. Unfortunately I couldn't afford the model D but I may get it after Christmas 🎄
@FreeBeat4 жыл бұрын
Nice! How do you like the Crave? I almost wound up getting that one
@tonywharton52204 жыл бұрын
@@FreeBeat I love it. You can do a hell of a lot with a 32 step sequencer. I've not had a chance to get used to the modular side of it but it really does sound outstanding without messing with patch cables. I also like the fact that it has sync in and sync out. I would definitely get one if you can.

@@tonywharton5220 Once I get more room the Crave is definitely high up on my list haha

@@FreeBeat After double checking today. The crave does not have sync in and out. I could have sworn I saw it. My bad. Sorry for the miss information bud. You can still get sync over midi.

Thank you for the interesting video! :) I'm interested in starting with Behringer's synthesizers. Could you recommend whether the Crave or the Edge is better for a beginner? And as a second buy Model D or the Neutron?
@FreeBeat5 ай бұрын
I've never used any of them other than the Model D, sorry!
@BPEMETO5 ай бұрын
@@FreeBeat Thanks anyway! : ) And can you point me in the direction of a relatively cheap sequencer for the stnths?
@keithedwinsmith94164 жыл бұрын
Probably a silly question but could you tune it using an iphone tuner app?
@FreeBeat4 жыл бұрын
Not silly at all! You could certainly use a tuning app :) thanks for watching!

Don't forget to check Reverb.com. Last night I saw a used one with minor visible wear (said it works fine) for only $200. I waited and now it's gone. :(

It would be interesting to go full old school on this and use the CV/Gate outputs on the Keystep to control this synth. Any chance you might give that a try? Obviously MIDI is newer and better, but I love that CV/Gate is still around and that the Keystep and the Model D actually have it! As a musically inclined electrical engineer, I'm fascinated by the retro tech in music. MIDI to me is so simple, but the older analog methods required some ingenuity to implement. You have definitely spurred my interest in analog synths where I never was interested before.
@FreeBeat4 жыл бұрын
Not gonna lie, I don't know anything about CV and gate haha. I'm completely new to all of this. I'm definitely interested in figuring it out though! Thanks for watching!
@rlynker4 жыл бұрын
Hehe.....It was before my time as well. It was the predecessor to MIDI. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CV/gate I honestly don't think it would add anything to the experience other than to try it for fun to learn how it was done in the 70s.
@FreeBeat4 жыл бұрын
@@rlynker I'll give it a shot, why not!

Hi Free Beat, Hey i heard what you said about keeping up with the OP-z and PO, i would like to say that with out being rude, all that content has kept me away from watching your videos when they cover functions or how to do something. I like the ones you build music up from the ground. But i had enough of TE gear. I like how you have gone with the MicroFreak and the Model D. Please consider us that are fed up of OP-z and POs, also think that your followers have grown up from that. Anyway love to see your new synth. I got the Crave instead of the D. love it. Sorry for my grammar, spelling and overall bad english.

I appreciate the honest feedback! I'll definitely be keeping teenage engineering gear on the channel, as a lot of my viewers do enjoy it and it's some of my favorite stuff to work with. However, the channel is going to continue to expand in many different directions, I've got big plans! Thanks again :)
