They should make a 6 or 8 voice poly version of this with presets. It would knock most other analogues out. This thing sounds so good as it is.

If they did that & added about 6 extra cv in/out connections,.. for making it semi-modular enough to really pair & patch up to their 2600's. That couldn't go wrong for Behringer as a development to pursue imo... The guy I produce tunes with has the 2600 & I own a Odyssey. I am about to lend him my Odyssey soon because he has started to use the 2600 more recently... I've advised him to initially create a arp sound & sequence from the Odyssey... & then layer it up more using the 2600, using its cv gate i/o to connect both up in combo together. By using the Odyssey to find a sound in more traditional & practical synthesis means & ways first... The 2600 will have that sound from it to experiment in modular ways with in a more predictable way as a outcome imo?

I thought of maybe sampling sounds from the Odyssey to an Akai sampler. I guess the samples would automatically become polyphonic and you could actually develop some thick Odyssey pads, strings, stabs, etc. It might be cumbersome, but possibly worth it.

Thanks so much for these videos. I've been greatly considering getting this as my next synth soon & have been scouring YT for them. This + your Kraftwerk vid especially are really pushing me to do so. Unlike a few others I've came across on here , you really showcase what it's capable of & have confirmed to me that it fits my particular style of music. I feel like the last thing missing in my setup is a fat retro analog synth with less menu diving & pretty sure this'll be the one!

Totally agree here. Anyone who says this clone is not good is seriously wrong. It's well made too and quite heavy. Love the solid steel front panel. Also love the fact they have spread everything out on the front panel making it easier to adjust things. Sound wise it's stellar for sure. I have got a Moog Voyager here and I can get a bass sound from this that easily rivals the Moog. It's got a lovely deep fat sound to it. The effects are great too and I love the fact they are in mono. The reverb is nice as well. Very good value for money. I also have the Behringer ProOne and it sounds excellent too.

Has a crunchy, harsh sound like the original. Actually, not a bad recreation. Not a bad synth but it may be hard to find a place for it in a modern mix because of it's dominating sound.

Well it is quite warm using teh 4 pole filters, but requires some EQ, as with the Moogs, but can certainly be used in all kinds of mixes if properly filtered :)

I heard some patches someone made emulating a lot of current EDM style sounds, it's capable of making them you need to know what you're doing. I'm not a prgrammer so I would struggle but this person did it. It's on YT somewhere, search for Odyssey patches you'll probably find it.

bro, how do you manage with the effects and with the sequencer??? plis...
@henrikstolpe
@henrikstolpe 2 жыл бұрын
Well the sequencer is not my favourite part of it, a bit counterintuitive compared to for instance the SH-101sequencer, I think. I dont really use it so Im not the right person to do a tutorial on it. But its the same as the one on the Behringer MS-1, maybe there are sequencer videos on that? Regarding the effects, they have a pretty fatal flaw...they are all send effects meaning you blend the wet signal with the dry one, and while that is fine for delay and reverb, many other effects, especially distorsion suffer from the effect not being audible enough, as those types of effects really should be inserts insetad of sends. Really which they had made an analog insert path next to the sendpath bit I guess cost was more important :) Better too add effects in the computer I think. But they serves a purpose live, add some sparkle for sure!

I couldn't care less for if it's in anyway different from the original ARP's... It sounds great & very analogue for this age, but of that synth era. I was a early buyer & user of the original Nord Lead & Nord Lead 2... I can nowadays have the modern ARP clones around, to hear what others older than myself would say of the Nord Lead VA modelling... To have been ARP influenced, mostly the oscillators & waveforms & the lp 4pole filter is likely the initial filter type of it too. The NL was meant to be its own unique synth, & not a VA ARP clone... But it was the best VA synth to cut a decent ARP Lead line back into techno production of music at its time. But my Behringer Odyssey's was about 3 times better than I had expected it to be, & it sounds x3 better than the price it costs, imo? I don't need another synth, but when I've got some extra $ again & a Monopoly pops up 2nd hand at even cheaper prices. I'll buy one before I may have come by one, to try one. They both are well praised as very good modern clones of their original vintages. The CAT is a ace clone too, I'll look for a cheap one at some point in the days ahead as worthy to acquire too. Would be a great ARP copycat with a few twists sprinkled in, so ARP didn't sue them at that time of the original ones. But it would be good to add a CAT to layer & stack with a Odyssey's sound in a sequence for a thicker patch as a sound.

It's obvious that behringer cloned the Korg version of the Oddy (all the 3 filters), as well as the reissue of the Minimoog (extra lfo, internal filter feedback, etc). Same also with the Wasp, they cloned a Wasp clone as well.

My very first synthesizer was a modified ARP Odyssey MkII with a famous former owner. The ARP Odyssey was always my favorite analogue monophonic synthesizer. But some things really annoyed me, e.g. the miserable quality. The original Odysseys are very noisy and some components develop a life of their own or a completely uncontrollable momentum over time. Not to mention the faders that keep breaking. The device was very often in repair and eventually I got fed up and sold it. When I started to buy a few synthesizers after a long musical break, it was obvious to get an ARP Odyssey clone first. The ARP Odyssey is absolutely unique in many ways. You can do things with it that are not possible with any other synth. The ARP Odyssey is the first choice when you need sophisticated modulations (PWM, FM, S&H) that go beyond the possibilities of most synthesizers, even semimodular and modular synthesizers, not to mention the typical ARP sound. That's exactly why I bought a Behringer Odyssey. And I have to say that I'm thrilled in every way. It even sounds a lot better than an original ARP and is way better in quality, not to mention the additional features such as multimode filters, sequencer, arpeggiator, effects, adjustable LED faders and better connectivity. I can recommend the Behringer Odyssey with a clear conscience and I will definitely get the Behringer 2600 as well.

@@diyalame5366 the old one didn’t even have midi. I don’t see that critical if you have a keyboard in there. I find this criticize unfair, because it kinda omits all the great stuff done in here, because of what i personally consider a detail.

@@Donetur It all depends of the way you like to using it. For a regular keyboard player it might work perfectly fine, but for studio use, it would be even greater if at least the basic midi cc implementation would be supported, which will open the door for many 3rd party developers to make a AU/VST remote plugin to control the synth.

Their 2600 is great. Not an exact replica of the Arp, but a great synth in its own right, for a decent price. Half the cost of the Korg in EU, ⅓ the price in North America. Just like their 909. Again, tonally there are differences with the TR-909, but it's a great drum machine in its own right for the price.

@henrikstolpe 2 жыл бұрын
I have had an original ARP rev1 and both this and the Korg sound very similar. The Korgs squarewave is more like the ARP and they both have a slightly more agressive 2 pole filter. But I havent had the old ARP and the B/Korg side by side. The ARP is probably slightly more raw sounding. As is usual when comparing modern smt designs with old pcbs. The B and Korg sounds damn good though! Besides, this video is not about how well it mimics the original but how it sounds in its own right. I rather have this than a rev 2/3 original. As the 2 pole is so great! :) Rev1 vintage ARP though is amazing but feels less well built and you loose the 4pole ability to make moogy basses, then again I rather use a minimoog for that. So yes, the vintage rev1 is better. The vintage rev2 is better at moogy stuff but the rev3 needs the filterfix to remedy the designfault they have.

Ive had loads of sequentials, Korgs, rolands and the only one I have never sold is the Behringer poly D because it can do things the others can't.
