Loving mine :) If you have time and fancy checking - set all the knobs to 50%/12 o'clock, open up an EQ, play the lower C and see what frequency the resonant peak is at. That tells us how open the filter is at 50%, so in other words how the internal VCF adjustment trimpot is set. I'm trying to figure out if there's differences between models/colours/batches. I got a yellow in recently and it's a lot darker than the early TD-3 demos. Putting it through the same tests loopop did in his TD-3 vs TB-303 demo, mine more closely matches his TB-303 and RE-303 than his TD-3 or x0xb0x. (in fact mine actually goes a little darker) With the above 50% settings test I get a resonant peak of about 514Hz, which is close to what Roland themselves say you should get when tuning the trimpot of the original 303 (they say around 500Hz). I'm wondering if that means Behringer adjusted said trimpot in newer batches after some people said it was bright, or if silver vs yellow have the cutoff tuned differently (if so, are red and blue also different I wonder?), or if it's just totally random and every TD-3 is different (quite like the original, at least when buying them second hand where a lot have been adjusted).

Had to wait months for mine but it arrived last week. Immense fun trying out the old skool acid riffs. Over the years I've contemplated the TT303, Roland's TB-3 and XOX box. All a little too pricey. I'm glad I waited until this dropped. And at this price point it's a no-brainer. Would be interesting to see if original TB303s have dropped in price. Loopop has done a good comparison and this one is as close as you will get to a real 303 in my opinion.

Damn wish I had one of these back when I wrote the, "Jackin the Box remix". This sounds really good for the price. I must point out though, I'm not 100% convinced by the punch of the accent, still not really worth nitpicking . I know this is a vst but , how about do a shootout with Abl bassline at some point if you can't get hold of the real deal and, if you get the time of course. Listening to it, it sounds very similar to, maybe better than the TT-303, particularly the square wave which is thinner than the original. The RE-303 or Avalon’s are closer to the original. But for £130 you can’t knock it.

Yes, but the TD-3 has a "randomize current pattern" function, so you can get the same behavior without the fallout of corrupting all of your saved patterns.

I grew up in the acid days 1990-2000 and I have heard ever acid song and variant of the acid sound and I ordered this to see if Its stacks up but I needed a cheap midi to cv converter for my minilogue xd..I am gonna pair the 2 while the td3 is controlling my cv filter cut off and gate it will add another sequence to my onboard sequence and also layer it with the my minilogue osc for a massive 303 sound.

Your laugh playing with the TD3 is as much fun as the box itself. Starsky try this. Remove the 8 screws on the bottom. Turn the VCF pot fully anti-clockwise. Put it back together. Turn all controls (including the tuning) fully down. Put the unit on square wave. Turn the distortion on full, but turn the distortion's tone control fully down. Select a pattern and listen LOUD through headphones.....

@@StarskyCarr Not quite. Dropping the cutoff preset makes it sound like most 303s, the TD3 cutoff is a bit higher when shipped, many people think. Running with all controls down and the distortion on full (with its tone control down) gives a really deep resonant bass sound that kind of alters resonance depending on the note. Adjusting the VCF pot just accentuates the effect, it sounds great.

you are meant to leave it on for 15 minutes for it to warm up. i find if you let a pattern run for ten minutes after that, it becomes even more characterful in an analogue way. i have yellow and blue. so far ;)

Why is there a separate level control for the distortion if it controls the total volume? You turned it to zero when the volume dial was still wide open and it went quiet.

It doesn’t seem to blend between the distorted and clean signal, as you noted it reduces the level of the whole thing. I can only imagine it’s there to reduce the signal level in the main chain, in case there’s additional unwanted clipping in the output level once the distortion is in play.

It'll do pretty good straight basslines and high toplines if you turn off the slides, but mostly used for Acid, Goa etc
