It's not just Behringer, Arturia just bitch slapped Moog with the PolyBrute 12. I'm glad I kept my originals which were designed by Bob. Uli doesn't hide the fact that he is selling cheap Chinese clones. Moog is trying to convince us to pay for expensive Chinese clones. Now where TF is my BCR32 Uli?

"Cheap" isn't an adjective I would use to describe Behringer synthesizers post Deepmind12/Crave productions. They did the work to engineer the manufacturing and supply chain of classic integrated circuit chips like the IR3109 filter. "Together with the classic analog polysynths themselves, the Curtis chips have long been out of production. In 2018 however, thanks to the new boom in analog synthesis, the 3340 VCO chip is once again available, from no less than three sources." These integrated circuit components ARE NOT expensive relative to your modern CPU. The Ryzen 7 5800X is a 7 nm production node using 4,150 million transistors. These VCOs and OTA, oscillators and op amp filters, are quite simple IC chips but it took Uli and his team to trailblaze their production back to life.

There is an old Moog ad from the 70's that says "IF you can afford a truck, you can afford a synthesizer!" The ad showed a black and white picture that featured a Ford pickup truck and a small Moog modular system. I'm pretty sure that particular truck in the picture must've cost the same as the synthesizer.

Whoever can take what is already known in electronic circuitry, and engineer the designs of synths that we as consumers want, these companies will succeed. Roland was at one time at the top of design/ development, but I personally would not buy any of their products today.. Uli is doing the right thing, taking good ideas and concepts, and not only making them better, but making them affordable... His company is seeing profits that others can only dream of... How many more Moog One 16 voice units would have been sold if they were $5,000, instead of $10,000. How many more Arturia PB12 's would sell if the price was brought down.. I believe the two items in particular would generate more profit for the companies, by virtue of more items sold. Yes , a smaller profit margin, but more profit due to increased number of sales...

For me as a new synth-head - I look at sounds and prices and I can only say - even of I won $10000 I would only buy Behringer products... Idk why I would want to spend more on one Moog, Subsequential or even Roland, synth when I can spend on multiple devices that sounds perfectly good to my ears - with added features... Like come on - my first synth I got now, the pro-800 not only sounds great, it has CC MIDI so I can literally use it as analogue hardware OR a MIDI controller for VSTs? This is for the price of what only the MIDI CC desktop would cost? No-brainer

The arguments against knockoffs (i don't think behringer are knockoffs but bear with me) are that they are usually lower quality sub par imitations with every corner cut of current products, and that that cuts the profits of the companies that are doing the innovation and moving things forward, meaning no new products will be developed. None of this is true of behringer. They are making improved versions of 40 year old obsolete products which does nothing to stifle progress. If a company wants to make a new type of innovative synth, there is nothing stopping them, and if an existing manufacturer wants to re release an old model, they could (and often do) as well. I think people are just salty because it knocks some value off their old broken synths.

I think Moog has been in the Upsidedown for a while, specially after the new owner’s take over. Let’s hope Moog will recover and offer new products to more competitive prices after the integration with InMusic. In the previous situation I honestly think Moog could not compete in prices with Behringer or other brands, just because of the company’s scale factor and production located in US. Kind of comparing Zara with a local taylor. It is a wonder that customers have kept Moog alive paying the extra fee for almost taylor made products. All the other original synth companies went bankrupt and discontinued production. On the other side Behringer is creating synthaddiction with their never ending reincarnations

Stradivarius created the modern standard of what is a violin, we don't fault luthiers for building strad styled clones, in fact its even expected. Uli & gang are just electronic luthiers using the standards that were set in place of what we expect certain things to sound like. Sure I would love an original 808 or moog or *insert antique overpriced gear here*, but a styled copy can do the thing, sure I would love a strad but a styled copy can do the thing.

@@synthsamuraiproductions since i have granny, i just need 1 model15. those 900 series circuits really sound so rich, and all the big moog rigs used those. imo granny sounds better than sub37 etc. matriarch has dual filters and 4 osc. since 15's are also semi-mod, you can run serial or parallel filters using the mults. semi-mod also means you can input sounds from other synths for dual filtering. 2x 15's means you can do 2 osc sync things that are different, and much more stuff i'm sure. fwiw, the 1st uno pro is 3osc and dual filters and imo, desktop is most bang for buck synth with microfreak. it has nice bass + effects too which freak doesn't have. im an uno fan. the plain uno is super fun too.

If the original designer of a synth is behind the development of it's recreation, then the synth is not a clone. It is a reissue of the original. BTW, How about a nice new $5000 appalachian cherry Minimoog Model D. Hehehe. How about a Minimoog Model D Lite that is the "SAME SIZE," "SAME LOOK," with the "SAME SOUND" but with a cheaper lighter weight chassis. Exchange the wood for sturdy plastic, like on the Grandmother and Matriarch. Keep the spacious tiltable control panel with the large knobs. Sell it for $2500, half the price of the regular Minimoog. Keep the regular Minimoog for those with deep pockets, but make a more affordable lighter version for those who can't afford the regular more expensive one. I think that would be a win-win for everyone. On a side note, I can remember when the first Model D reissue back in 2017 was selling for $3500 and some people thought even that was still too much money for a Minimoog.

Moog's problems are simple. They charge $5,000 for the Model D, while Behringer charges $300 for a Model D that sounds almost as good. It all goes down to production. Behringer has automated its supply chain as much as possible. Moog is keeping the hand assembled synth production process but moving it to Taiwan. Moog could have done what Behringer did with production but kept it in the USA which is what the Moog consumers really wanted.

At the time Behringer first released their $300 Model D clone, Moog's Minimoog Model D reissue was $3,500, not $5,000. Then, Moog stopped making the Model D for a few years and later brought it back for $5,000 (not $3,500). Why raise the price on the SAME SYNTH!!!? They did it to the Moog One as well. The Moog One 16-voice was originally $8 000, not $10,000, which is what it is today. That's just over a period of 5 years. It's ridiculous.

Well, I love Moog prducts, and I love Behringer products. I own several products from each company (and many others). But most of the comments sound like they're from noobs who don't know $h¡† about $h¡†. As is so often the case, they don't think for themselves and just follow the content provider (in this case Synth Samurai). Now all of a sudden it's a rush to condemn Moog and exalt Behringer (who not long ago were a laughing stock). I can't tell the future of Moog but until recently they were an employee-owned American company whose premium products were still hand-built in the USA. Apparently many of the commenters are also ignorant about what that means economically. Too bad, Samurai, you need content so bad you have to pit Moog and Behringer and perpetuate the BS. I'm sure to buy several more Behringer synths in months ahead. Moog I'm not so sure about, now that they've been sold. Time will tell... 🙄

A disclaimer then first thought/comment: I have a Behringer MonoPoly, Cat, Model D, and RD9 - they have all been great. Delays in a synth release, especially the higher end models, are commonplace and NOT a big deal. An 8 voice bi-timbral great sounding synth (I will be shocked if it is other than great sounding) made with higher end components (top quality steel shaft pots, metal knobs, etc.) with a great workflow/interface at $4k is EXACTLY what a fair few want. $3500 for a 4 octave monotimbral 6 voice Trigon (also higher end components) which continues to sell well for a reason or $500 for the Muse...

Second thought/comment: the recent Behringer Facebook comment no synth should cost more than $1500 is ridiculous. If you make a good living at it premium grade studio kit and touring boards are worth every penny. Also, those with a lot of disposable income who prefer a premium build are better served there as long as the rest of what they want from a synth is also present. I appreciate Behringer kit as a hobbyist where it can be a great fit. At the same time one and done with a Hydrasynth Deluxe covers pretty much ALL the territory of EVERY announced or shipped Behringer synth...

Plus, if you want the experience of a DAWless setup it is extremely difficult to get the latency low enough. That is even more the case when you have a pure analog signal path. It doesn't get faster or more continuous than the speed of electricity in copper. Both certainly have their place, and I don't see that changing anytime soon. The CAGR on the musical instrument market by some measures is 7.5% and climbing.
