Getting into sharing a stagebox between two Behringer consoles. Lots of folks do it with two X32 mixers, but in this video we look at sharing an S32 with the Behringer Wing & X32 Rack. We've got the Dante card in the Wing too & in an upcoming episode we'll talk about how that works alongside the existing AES50-SuperMac protocol Behringer uses, and how to clock everything together and get it all working.

Looks good. I've done this with a pair of Yamaha TFs (one monitors and the other FOH) and a rack of Tio1608-Ds. It works great for me. The only difference is that I get nervous about single points of failure, so I ran a pair of switches instead of daisy-chaining the devices.

The TF / Tio combo is a nice system for sure, the Tio boxes are a great deal for a standalone Dante stagebox too. You have to move up a bit in the Music Tribe ecosystem to get into redundancy on stageboxes unfortunately. Of course Dante has the big advantage too for many folks of being able to use off the shelf switches unlike AES50. Lots to cover in the next video on this stuff, thanks for the message though!

Thanks, great to see how you are setting this all up. Question about using the x32 USB interface for your OBS box vs using a Dante card in X32 and the Audinate Dante virtual sound card driver on OBS machine instead - would be helpful if you could perhaps give some pros and cons of these options in a future episode? Hi there, I have a question with a similar configuration, is it possible for both consoles to access all inputs of the stage box, and for each console to share the outputs? Like if I wanted console 1 to have 8 outputs, and the other console to have the other 8 outputs, of the stage rack? We definitely understand moving inputs from one console to another, but utilizing the outputs, in any way, is confusing! Thanks in advance for the reply!

Good video, we are replacing our x32 with the wing and an additional s32 stage box. Additionally, we are replacing our P16's with the Midas DP 48's personal monitor system and Hub. Our x32 was connected to the stage box via cat 5 shielded cable. My guess is I have to run another cat 5 cable to the b port in order to get the maximum 64 inputs for the wing and use port c for the Midas DP 48 connection. Thoughts?

Hello and greetings from switzerland; you said, you have your incoming signal on the Wing from the x32r…via S32 stagebox? My setup: X32 FOH, S32 stagebox, X32r InEar Mon. How do I get an Audio Signal from my X32 FOH (local Input, ch19&/30) via Stagebox into my X32r (clicktrack runs from Laptop at FOH area, not on stage) I just could not find out yet How do route it… Thank you very much!

Aren't there timing problems from sending from Wing to x32 or vice versa due to different latency in the A/D converters or FX latency? I am toying with creating 64 channels of mixing by using 2 x32s and stage boxes and then sending the outputs from both x32s to an analogue console to merge the two...but I really only need about 40-50 channels...but figured that if I send output from one x32 to the other x32 that latency would be different between sound processed on the final x32 vs the sound from the x32 feeding into the 2nd x32...hence the use of analogue to merge them. Isn't the latency difference going to be an issue sending from one console to the other since such audio would have 2x the latency of local audio??

Dave's recent video shows some of what latency can be expected going between consoles using AES-50 - kzbin.info/www/bejne/noS8iXSMYtejhck - I certainly don't think going back and forth from digital to an analog system is going to benefit your signal path unless I'm not following what you're trying to do here. @@DcSoundOp Thanks for the info. I had not seen this Dave Rat video before! Cascading may be safe .. I was thinking a 3rd mixer to combine like-use outputs from both x32s would be needed to combine outputs together without phasing and other issues....but looks un-necessarily complex and adds gain stage risks for no real benefit.

can you use an xr18 Behringer or x32 as a stage box for the wing.

Hello , I have an X32. Will soon be purchasing a digital stagebox either the Midas or Behringer 16 unit . I’m a Drummer and would like to stop using an analog snake from control room . So I keep hearing there is a difference between the Behringer s16 and Midas DL16 . I see you use the Behringer in this video. If you don’t mind , I’d like your thoughts as to which one you prefer , would buy . Thanks very much

It sounds like you're talking about a recording situation here, so I'd probably go with the Midas if money allowed. It's not a night and day difference, but if you're going to be scrutinizing things in a studio setting, it could certainly be worth it. Are you happy with the X32 inputs you have now? If you go with the DL16 from somewhere with a good return policy, you can A/B the midas against the X32's onboard pres and see if it's worth it before you're stuck with it.

I have a Wing, Wing Dante card, X32 rack, and a Midas DL32 stagebox. If I want to send Dante sources from the Wing card to the X32, is this how I do it? Wing AES50 A to DL32 AES50 A X32 AES50 A to DL32 AES50 B Wing AES50 B to X32 AES50 B *Route Dante network inputs to AES50 B outputs And can I also route all the X32 local inputs to back to the wing over the AES50 B port?

Hi Mark, that config should work assuming you have the sync setup correctly between the consoles, and then to the Dante network. You'll run out of AES channels before you get all of the potential Dante traffic going anywhere, so you'll have to plan what you actually need coming and going from each device and then see if you have the open space on to do the config you want. Even if it looks good on paper, I'd test thoroughly before assuming it's a done deal. Thanks for joining the channel, hope to talk to you soon!

@@DcSoundOp thank you so much, this is a massive help. I was under the impression that I needed to sync to the Dante card, but now I'm wondering if that's not the case. What do you suggest? Yes I'll test everything thoroughly before installing :) luckily we have another sound system in place that this system will replace. Only need ~10 Dante channels, nothing crazy. We will have plenty of spare inputs

Right now I have things set up the other way around, with the X32 providing sync to the stagebox from port A to A on each, then the Wing from it's A port to the stagebox B port. So, I have the wing set to Sync to AES A - and then in Dante controller, it is set to be the preferred Leader, with 'Enable Sync to External' turned on. I'd have to test the way you're asking about first before giving you detailed instructions, but if you remember that the stagebox must get clock on AES-A and you're essentially clocking your Dante network to the AES network by enabling sync to external, you should be able to test through any config. This would be the same if the Wing was the primary AES clock source, since it is still 'external' to the Dante card itself. Let me know if that makes sense or if I'm not answering the right question. Ten channels is a good place to start, I worry when folks are trying to use every possible in & out on a mixer like this, it's bound to end in disaster!

@@DcSoundOp I just wanted to see 2x consoles controling the gain of a single stagebox at the same time. I've just been so spoiled with Yamaha theses days and I wasnt sure it was even possible with behringer
