The etymology of husband is powerfully defined as “householder”. Taking on the mandate of “husband” is willfully being enlisted into the service of servitude. David Burruss, a husband of 19 years, shares what he’s gleaned in his journey in an episode titled, “Defining a Husband.”

I’m a habitual cheater. through out my marriage I’ve been hoping that I would get a sense of fairness and admiration. I’m a broken man that didn’t really understand the role of a husband. This episode has blessed me, I now see the flaws in my ways and will seek therapy. Thank you !

I get married in seven days. I stumbled upon this video yesterday. And I listen to it the second time today. I’m so thankful to God that he has my back to send the two of you to create this podcast to cover me right before I step in to marriage. Now I feel like a warrior because I have all the tools and weapons I need. And I know exactly what I’m getting into instead of having these false expectations. Thank you guys so much you’ve also Shown me what the ministry God has for me looks like. I’m 25 years old. And I look around me and I don’t see many black men my age that are desiring marriage or look at it as a good thing. And I wanted to change that. And you guys are showing me the ways to do so. @@SAVAGEoLIFE it’s been exactly what I asked God for. I prayed for a woman to love me my God. What I didn’t realize is that Jesus loves us even when we don’t deserve it. She’s giving me love that I don’t deserve and I’ve given her love that I don’t deserve. But that’s because outside of Christ we don’t deserve anything. However inside Christ we inherit the kingdom of God. so we both trying to stay in Christ as much as possible. We encourage each other to stay connected with God is a true prayer worship. We pray together every morning as much as we can. This is helped us a lot not keep grudges or stay angry or upset at each other. But more importantly it’s helped us love Each other way beyond we could even imagine. We don’t serve each other based on our own merits hey Siri which other night each other based on the love we have for God. It’s So Good.

@Collegegrad 22 thats dope to hear man. Im praying your marriage continues to be rooted in Christ as you guys grow together. Ive been married for going on 10 years and i will say this video changed my perspective a lot. I often found myself doing more for my wife then i got in return and at times it caused some resentment because it is "unfair" and after years you begin to feel a certain type of way but this video has been a game changer to how i look at it now. I wish i would found something like this early on in my marriage woulda saved me a lot of headache lol. Props to you for doing the good things early man. Your wife is lucky to have you!

LATERRAS! We MUST hear from his wife! We HAVE TO hear the other side of this. He learned “the secret” by keeping the main thing, the main thing. He cracked open the Word and applied what the MARRIAGE MANUFACTURER provided for all of us to win in marriage. We HAVE TO hear how his application is blessing his wife. We want to hear from her how she now responds versus how she used to respond. Listeners WILL benefit from seeing both sides of this coin. No doubt.

I am so thankful that you posted your comments. I love this brother's message and agree with the word of God about a husband serving and loving in his marriage as Christ loved the church. However, I'm concerned about how such a message speaks to a wife's personal relationship with Jesus. My hope is that a wife or wife to be, knows that her "response" to God in her relationship with Him is not dictated by her husband's relationship, or lack thereof, with Jesus. Thank you for sharing. I started reading the comments in search of exactly what you expressed. Be free!

Yes, it was for the man/husband but it was also for the woman/wife. We both man/woman have to hear, listen and respond to one another needs, wants and desires. The most important part of our journey here on earth is to grow, serve and fulfill our God given purpose so keep up the good work. There may be some red pill men or men in general that are like that but it doesn't matter or is an issue since society n the law force men to be accountable for there actions they get worse sentences for the same crime or even smaller crimes than women the mgtow movement stands for men going there own way men aren't treated like human beings in the west n marriage is extremely risky n divorce can lead a guy to suicide he has no rights in a divorce n he can lose literally everything n be forced into financial slavery forced to work to pay for his exes lifestyle give her child support that she can use for her own luxuries he can lose his kids house car dog n everything

I needed to hear this. This explains why a wife is a help mate and why submission is critical in the hierarchy of marriage. The burden a husband has to take care of his household. It's rough. He doesn't need contention on top of that. As a woman it helps me to understand what I need to see in a man's character to feel comfortable submitting/trusting his leadership. I gleaned so much from this.

I watched this podcast several times. A matter of fact, I just finished watching it again. There’s so many nuggets in this interview alone that it’s impossible for me to unpack it all In just one setting. IJS! As a single Christian woman who has a genuine respect, honor, seriousness, and love for the “institution” of marriage and it’s “covenant” these podcasts are “helping” a lot in gaining understanding in all facets of the dynamics of marriage. From understanding the husband role. To the wife role. Getting therapy (if needed) Servant hood. Competing to “serve”. Effective communication. Learning and understanding intimacy. Learning to be suggestive to a man and not commanding. The list can go on and on. My goodness! This is so wholesome. I’m sitting here thinking how gracious the Lord is… That he would even allow content such as this to also help single people. Like really. It’s as though he’s allowing y’all to pour out and be Brutally transparent so if we glean we won’t have to walk through some of the hard knocks others experienced. If we would listen and apply it. My goodness! Thank y’all for not keeping y’all personal experiences to yourselves. Seriously! Trust me. MANY are listening! Many are paying attention. I guarantee you there’s more paying attention to all these podcasts that just won’t publicly or openly admit it. Just continue doing this. Keep the content coming. It’s so awesome. God Bless y’all abundantly.

Men are only held to a higher standard in the context of being a leader so it's husband's since women aren't the leader n the one in charge so yes of course the husband is responsible cause he's in charge but nowhere in the bible does it say men are held to a higher standard in general simply cause of there gender it's in a marriage context the fact that men get way tougher sentences for the exact same crime n even smaller crimes is crazy men are treated worse than animals in the west especially america if u think women shouldn't be accountable for there actions ur a doormat western american women are entitled masculine spoilt vain superficial n selfish n the reason for that is cause men allowed it men gave them the privilege to vote even tho it was supposed to be only war draftees that had that earned privilege women can kill there baby n have all reproductive rights while men get none they can get away with false accusations with zero evidence n destroy a man they want u to believe there's a gender wage gap men allowed feminism to destroy society if men led properly women wouldn't be these childish children who take no responsibility

Amen! well said. Some women may not agree, but I have no problem submitting to my Husband and we could both be covered because the Lord did not promise perfection in any marriage. It's too much temptation out here and easy access to sex that a lot of us are not taking the time to make things grow. Also, some are having role confusion men are acting like wives and women are acting like husbands 🤦🏽‍♀️

Yes, bring him back. I loved his perspective on his role as a husband. He was good... But I did identify that he is not communicating with his wife for the love he needs. In some ways he is sacrificing himself where he doesn't have to. He actually wants to be celebrated. He didn't respond to what his love language was, he just wanted to be left alone. It is quite clear, his love language is words of affirmation. He has to let her know what he needs as well. I think impact is better than effort. Ask her what she needs the most, and deliver. Doing things 10x harder with little impact is not a good use of energy.

I never experienced the covering of a man...not from my father and not from my ex husband. This can bless both, men and women. And we have to understand that without surrendering to Christ we cant do marriage right. There is a reason the bible constantly talks about the relationship between Christ and the church as a marriage...because marriage is way more spiritual than physical. This truth does not change just because someone is not a Christian.

Who hasn't heard this message preached? I haven't. Been knowing about it, just never heard it or remember hearing it. A good lesson on "dwell with her according to knowledge". Thank you, Mr. Burris!

Such a great episode. Thank you!! I truly can understand and share your sentiments about growing up poor. I grew up in Belize and with no bathroom only an outhouse. It humbles you and makes you very appreciative of things. God bless you and your show !

Laterras is so funny. He's like wait a minute. Don't just drop that bomb and keep going...whew. The gentleman is so accountable but I think a great marriage is when the husband and wife are this accountable. My mind is blown. David is a really mature Christian. Lord help us.
