Harvey: "Is the race card played too much?" White girl: "Yes? I don't really know why I feel that way." Black dude: "No, and I can give you a specific, recent example of bias." This is the US in a microcosm. People thinking their vague feelings have more merit that others' lived experience.

I mean, yes, but this is a tv show, Harvey has a limited amount of time to hear this long ass story. Harvey actually gave him a lot of time bc he usually gets a brief answer from several people. Watch the end, where Kurt cuts the white defendant off too. It’s the timing of the show, not racism in this instance. And a 12 year old doesn’t know shit about shit anyway. Ion like the way JM handled this. Discrimination should be taken seriously because this woman’s life was disrupted by the disrespectful discrimination of the defendant. She had no business treating this woman this way just because the man showed up to help her move. If she had questions, there was a way to go about it. Or just leave it alone because the man and the additional child were not on the lease. If you found out otherwise, then move to legally handle the situation.

The defendant didn't like them, had a change of heart and didn't cash anything. She ripped the check up. The plaintiff's logic is that if she signs a contract to pay rent for a million-dollar-a-month place, and the landlord has a change of heart but doesn't receive the million dollars, that she should magically get a free million bucks out of principle. In this case, she would have been returned a DEPOSIT had she made one, but that wasn't even done. This was a very fair judgment. Court is about making you WHOLE. I've had that happen to me before as well where the person interviewing looked like they saw the wrong person go in. I have a common White person's name and am in computer science as well. I've had interviewers do a double take and ask me "are you sure you're *name*". Quite annoying having to deal with that so often.

I'm actually turned off by the judge and Harvey on this episode. You're not that obtuse to ignore blatant discrimination like this. Then only awarding a lil over $100 is like saying ,"see I gave you something at least." She breached a contract based on some weird stereotype she formed in her head and basically said she did when she saw him. His money wasn't a factor when you had her sign a lease, so why was it when YOU needed something done? Harvey, you...ugh.

@DavidsVideoJournal
@DavidsVideoJournal 3 сағат бұрын
No, the tenant would simply lose their deposit. They wouldn't have to pay more than that unless the deposit is less than the month's rent. The landlord would not be entitled to 3 months rent. It doesn't work like that. In this case, the plaintiff didn't pay a deposit because the check was not cashed. So, she wasn't out any deposit or rent money. She was out the storage fees for the month though.

@goblueinga no I do know warranty of habitability. It has absolutely nothing to do with this case. This is a contracts case. There wasn't anything habitability would cover because she never set foot in there. Habitability covers, heat, hot water, water service, mold, things that make the place unlivable. Google merchantability, it has to do with the idea you can sell something that doesn't have the use advertised. Think car that you can't get clear title. The landlord had no way to deliver an apartment because someone was there
