Burning Up A Tenant

The plaintiff rented a home from the defendant. She says the home caught on fire and ruined all her belongings, but it started from an electrical fire. She claims the landlord won’t pay her back for her property that was destroyed, so she’s suing for the cost of belongings, pain and suffering, and the remainder of her security deposit. The defendant argues the fire was not electrical. He says the plaintiff stopped paying rent while he was in the process of evicting her

I notice he called fast food a hand me down job. People in food service work very hard and it is, at lest, an honest living

If he's story is true about the sister removing the alarm it will make sense as to why she didn't know there was a fire.

I feel for the plaintiff, however it looks like she was taking advantage of the living situation, moving her sister in, going on vacation when you know your rent is due. Her behavior was sus.

I understand it’s a traumatic experience but the crying when it’s her turn to speak threw me off. The whole time the Defendant was talking she & her sister were smiling, laughing, & rolling their eyes. I think she was trying to amp it up for a win.

This is why people have renters insurance and your landlord’s insurance does not cover the renters property that is their own responsibility. If you are not paying rent and you pretty much have no right, good grief all these people feel entitled, but they don’t want to actually do anything responsible?

I have in my experience realized that more people are more willing to help you and to give you a break if you're respectful to them.

This is a prime example as to why it is important to purchase renter's insurance! A landlord is not responsible for the lost of your belongings.

As an insurance adjuster this was a great case. Make sure you have renters insurance even if its a low policy. A company would of covered it for her and saved her the trouble.
