It pained me to hear the other guy say "We didn't chose to be born black", because that just shows how far racism and discrimination has lowered people's opinions of themselves. Being black is not something to feel bad or apologetic about, yet the social construct of race creates this horrible illusion - that being born with a certain skin color and in a certain geographical area is a legitimate reason for inferiority. HOW RIDICULOUS IS THAT?!

The sad thing is that black people have so much potential and talent and we are so much more than our skin color. But in a lot of cases when you look at social media black men are portrayed as thugs and black women are used simply as sex objects. And even worse, Africa is presumed to be a big piece of dirt with poor starving African kids with big bellies and flies stuck to their faces. Africa (which is a CONTINENT OF OVER 50 COUNTRIES) is full of beautiful and diverse cultures and resources that is rarely acknowledged...Paul if you see this YOUR BLACKNESS DOES NOT LIMIT YOU, IT MAKES YOU STRONG AND IT MAKES YOU BEAUTIFUL.

KOBU E N Z E L. oh it doesn't seem like both sides to me. I've been seeing one side from you. the tensed, brutal history between black and white in America dates back centuries if you are talking about blm. it seems to me that you are not really educated on how black people were treated for many years and how black people are innocently discriminated against and even killed because of stereotypes. The reason we talk so much about race is because people treat us bad based on it. People like you want us to get over race, yet many people still look down upon black people based on race. Tell me exactly how we are supposed to get over something that still exists and still is a major problem for us in society? The people that are destroying things are not accurately representing blm. For years, black people have always been treated bad based on race and/or stereotypes and innocent lives have been taken because of it as well. that is why blm started because people treat black lives as if they are of less value. This is not something black people are making up. You make it seem like white people have to deal with us speaking out against wrong doing for no reason at all White people play a big role in how black people are treated in America. They always had major control in how we are treated since slavery. It is true what black people face and people like you make it hard for us speak out against it because you are trying make it seem like discrimination and stereotypes isn't that much of an issue and it is. All White people are not angels and all black people are not demons. I suggest you do research on the history of America regarding black and white people.
@portiarenee5486
@portiarenee5486 7 жыл бұрын
KOBU E N Z E L You need to read it. cause you obviously do not understand and its not something i can say in just 4 words. I don't believe all white people racist, but there are some racist white people still around in America and there is video evidence. You can say most white people aren't racist but you can say most black are this stereotype? wow. so you don't stereotype white people but you stereotype black people? you shouldn't stereotype anyone for someone who's looking at both sides. and we don't know what our ancestors did? so history class was all a lie? everyone does get treated bad but are you trying to tell me it's exactly the same? no it isn't. It cant be the same amount of mistreatment if the stereotypes aren't the same. You say black people will get respect if we are respectful , but some people are disrespectful to us first based on our race and stereotypes

I don't know who the girl is who stated her experience near the end but I kinda feel like she just invalidated everything that was just talked about. Experiencing racism is not something you learn to just get over. It's not that you gotta get used to people not liking you, it's that there needs to be education and awareness about the issue. If people who are discriminated against just learn to "get over it" it will continue. Real change can only occur if everyone learns to recognize this as an issue and pursues to resolve it

KOBU E N Z E L let's take a look at the situation in this video. Paul is a man studying in Korea and he's being discriminated for his skin colour and race. where's the logic in that? what crime has he committed or what has he done to make Korea a dangerous place? he's just studying there and not harming anyone. Your first comment was very prejudicial and lacks any form of research, based on pure ignorance. Understand the seriousness of the situation and understand why people are upset about this video.

Little do you know a lot of blacks are educated there just isn't media coverage. Crime rates against each other is just the as high as white on white crime etc. 😑 A lot of us actually are civilized despite what the media makes shit out to be. Also do you know that our governments freaking planted drugs into our "low income" areas. Of course there are some of us that aren't thriving who are struggling to even keep a roof over their head and can't afford college!! So they stay and sell drugs or even sell their own bodies to survive. Did you know we had thriving businesses on wall street that were destroyed by racist? Did you know our public schools curriculum and books aren't even up to date. Stop believing stuff you see in the media and think you actually know an entire race. That's ridiculous!

Why did the hosts all not think it’s a problem. “It’s not a worry” of course it is, it’s plain racism. He’s not the only person they do it to and not all people overcome things the same. Honestly, I love the culture of Korea and have always wanted to go there since I became a fan of their music but this is what scares me being a black person, discrimination. Korea need to educate themselves more to know that people from Africa and black people as a whole are not dirty and disgusting but are beautiful and nearly all of us live the same life as anyone else. Africa is different to what we see on adverts. It is gorgeous, beautiful, some houses are like mansions, they DO have phones, shopping centres, the people are funny, kind and it looks so rich compared to what everyone thinks of it. Korea just need to learn more about others cultures rather than their own.

I’m sorry for saying my opinion? Listen I’m 15 and born in the uk and I’ve been to literally one country in Africa in my whole life. I don’t really get what your saying but this is all I can say. I don’t recall saying I wanted to live in Asia, I was simply saying that I wanted to visit but I’m scared of being discriminated. I’ve heard many stories from black youtubers who have gone to Korea and been stared at, touched and even spat on; so I don’t think i would want to live in Asia, a place where I wouldn’t feel as comfortable as living in Africa ( or uk). Although I’ve been to Africa once, of course I would say good things about it because it’s still apart of me. I don’t get what you mean that we “racially harass others” and that we “force [ourselves] onto every other race”. I usually see other races forcing themselves onto us when they wear our hairstyles (cornrows, box braids etc), which of course have their history. I mean when you talk about people relating race to the past, I honestly can’t say much. I don’t think many people see black people and instantly think “slavery”... When you talk about how we don’t want to be around ourselves, again I’m 15. I can’t really just up and leave England, my birth country. I don’t think it’s really our fault, from what I know, not all Americans ( in your case) know about their history in Africa so can’t really be around the people there because their family has been more American based for generations, and they would really have to dig deep, I guess? I honestly don’t get why this annoyed you as much as it did, but again I was just saying my opinion on what I think Africa is like and why I’m hesitant to go to (visit) Asia really. My comment (this one) is all over the place so sorry bout that. But I honestly wasn’t thinking deeply when I wrote my first comment, so I’m sorry you were offended.

TiffKookie97 because I already know how badly you people treat the host race you live off, and you know exactly what I mean, and liberal whites who hate themselves and grovel on floor at your feet, hardly constitute as people using your style for healthy reasons, if you come here, you will never see people with their hair like that, (though really you barley see it on whites in the west either, especially recently) Asia, is not a kpop music video, kpop especially recently is coping western trends to reach a larger audience, it’s only a recent trend and unfortunately it’s really ruined it, I haven’t liked it since the early 2000s, but capitalism only cares about money, not making something good.

Alice Wong ... nah I’m done. I said I was sorry if I offended you with the comment and I’m not lying when I say I don’t understand fully what your on about. Whatever you have against black people to call us “you people” like we ain’t human, can stay in your head. You didn’t have to reply to this, it was just my opinion of the hosts’ reaction to him being discriminated in Korea. I didn’t ask for a full on argument about what you believe is wrong with black people because it seems like you have a problem with us. I don’t know how badly you’ve been treated by black people to have this image in your mind that we treat basically everyone badly. Plus we have raised ourselves from the point where WE were the ones on the floor, and you think I would care about the white people who you say now “grovel on the floor at [our] feet”. Honestly, I was trying to be kind by saying sorry but I cba anymore, like can you please just drop it. This is seriously not what I want to be thinking about right now.

It was amazing I am a huge fan of all Kpop groups especially BTS and I actually consider going to vacation there with my sister and have a good time :) until I discovered racism in korea.. I didn’t think it was that bad since I always see Kpop Idols get along with every kind of dark skinned or light skinned people witch probably led me to thinking every Korean people would be like that...my Lebanese (Muslim) friend lives in Korea and when I asked her ‘how are people treating u’ she responded like this ‘it’s absolutely disgusting’ and I asked how?? Then she said a lot of people were staring at her, shouting ‘GO BACK TO UR COUNTRY’, talking about her to other people in Korean in which she understands perfectly, insult her cause she wears a hijab and a guy even had the AUDACITY to spit on her !! After I discovered the racism in Korea (by watching lots of videos) I came to lose interest in the Korean culture. DONT get me wrong I still love Kpop and still respect Koreans but my point of vue changed a lot and by looking at this video I can tell it’s not going to change so...and btw I’m still learning Korean since even tho I might not be going it’s still really cool to know more than 1 language (I speak Lebanese, French ,English) so this is my story :)

That’s basically what the do on their show in general. They never really have any serious solutions, the best they can do is create awareness. And some of the excuses they made for the Koreans are kinda true. I’m also a Nigerian living in Korea, people stare at me and in all cases, it’s because I’m dark skinned (and like, I’m heavily melanated). In most cases than not, it’s because they are surprised by my skin color. In other cases, it’s because of the stereotypes they assume. And it’s up to us to clear those stereotypes up. But the core racism is more common with the elderly, they are more conservative than the younger generations and they’re gonna die off sooner than later anyways so why bother yourself?

I’m a Korean but i was raised in London so I have a more unique perspective on things but honestly? Korea needs to grow tf up. It’s my country and I’m proud of how far it’s come, but not addressing these issues is letting it fester. Only by addressing it and taking real actions to stop it will it get any better. I was ashamed of these hosts- I’ve watched this show a couple times (only for the guests/idols and never for the actual content) and each goddamn time, there is a serious issue that people just gloss over or laugh off or pretend doesn’t exist. I’m not just talking about the racism exhibited in this particular issue- I’m talking real, physical and/or mental abuse or mental health problems. This man is a black man, he is a nice, well spoken person and from what I see, has a lovely personality. But my fellow Koreans simply look at the beautiful black skin and call it ‘ugly’ or ‘intimidating’. That is NOT okay. We cannot blame this on culture. Korea talks about their ‘fast WIFI’ or shit like that, but when you have such access to internet you have to deal with the globalization that comes with it, and that means dealing with new people and keeping up with the rest of the world. I am ashamed of the xenophobia exhibited!

The problem is that it will take generations for society as a whole to change. So for those stuck in this generation, I think they have to approach the situation with grace and forgiveness. They have to rise above the injustice. I almost think it is better if people who aren't experiencing the injustice are the ones who are fighting against it because it becomes less of an "us versus them" thing. You see in America for instance, these protests and revenge crimes only fuel the opposite side's agenda. It feels hopeless sometimes I'm sure, but if good people continue to be good and to stand up for others and what is right, I think the world will slowly change.

Finally! I still haven't watched the video but judging by the title the topic is going to be about racism. I am so proud and glad that POC/Black people and muslims who live in South Korea are speaking up about the discrimination that they face. Koreans are quite close minded and can be racist, I hope this can change that. These type of topics should be talked about and brought up often and Koreans need to be more educated on these sort of topics. It's 2017 and such discrimination and mistreatments need to cease to exist. I, as a muslim black person would like to visit or study in Korea in the future, I hope the future is a better place for people like me.

Everyone doesn't like to be discriminated or are hurt when racist jokes are made against them (i.e. Asian men have small d*cks) but they also do it to other countries or race that they think they're more "superior" (i.e. whites skinned Asian thinking dark skinned people are dirty like in this vid) I think countries who have a somewhat homogeneous thinking or ways like Korea should add to their academic curriculum about studies on racism and cultural respect or something like that so that more of their citizens would actually be aware and not just base their prejudice on the movies they see or what.
@the98liner
@the98liner 7 жыл бұрын
I think the problem is that the system in Korea doesn't bother about educating Koreans regarding racism because of how homogeneous they are. Those who actually know and care about such problems are those who have seen firsthand the kind of discrimination their friends from other backgrounds have received, or have read about racism on the internet. Of course, being a homogeneous society shouldn't be an excuse to not educate Koreans about such issues because societies have to open up especially in the face of globalisation. Hopefully the more open-minded Koreans will one day make an effort to help change these issues of racism.

Not just Korean people lack knowledge about racism. I have an Asian cousin (I'm half-asian half-caucasian) who once told me that her black friend's skin was so dark it rubbed off onto her hands... She's not even racist or something. She has dark complexion herself, even too dark for Asian preference. She just was raised this way. It's important to note that a lot of Asian children (if not most of them) are taught since their young age that black or dark skin is "dirty" and looks "poor" so they should always be careful and always try to make our skin looks the brightest possible in order to become successful and be well treated. I myself have been told by my Asian family members that "people with black or dark skin are dirty." My Asian mother would always exfoliate my skin so hard when I was a child to avoid me dark skin. This is what makes a lot of Asian people apprehend dark skin. And it is indeed hard to make them believe otherwise when the opposite is being taught from your day 1 on earth.
