I grew up in a society that was all Christian. It is known as the Bible belt and growing up there I never knew there were any other options.Thankfully I studied enough other religions to know that there is much better for my personal spiritually and made the leap to Hinduism. The church in the Black community seems to be the main gathering place for social grouping. I remember as a kid hating Sunday because church took up 80 percent of the day and homework took up the other 20 percent. Thanks for the story

The point he's making about religion and faith being imposed on kids by their parents and caretakers is so true. For the most part, we come into it by way of being born into a religious household and its important to get to the point of acknowledging that this wasn't your choice

Absolutely love and identify with this. I'm not black but am often put in the black category, which also puts me in the spot where the religious/spiritist stereotypes avalanche down on me. You have both articulated years of mental turmoil.

I think a lot of people believe that if you don't believe in being christian you don't believe in christ or God therefore your automatically atheist or your a backslider! I know people who follow the concepts of Christ better not being Christian then being one!

I grew up as a Catholic and I used to the same, drop in to church at the beginning of mass, pick up a leaflet to prove I'd been to mass, go to the park whilst mass was being conducted and go home at the time mass finishes.

My experience had been so similar. As a Black American and ex Christian it is very difficult. My family is all Christian. Thankfully we're not close in proximity or relationship. I honestly don't want to hear it.

Maybe not destroyed but put into its place. Here in Austria the majority would be catholic but... Well... Catholicism, nuff said. So there's really just a tiny minority into religion at all which causes religion in itself to become less of a topic or instrument of identification thus reducing its influence. Sure you can be religious. But people wouldn't want to be bothered by your religiosity so the constant preaching is stopped. And they'll maybe laugh at you and throw things at you (thanks Dylan Moran!)

Why I, as a black person, have chosen to be, am still and will always be a true Bible believing uncompromising Christian. If you don't believe this then you're probably not a Christian and never was one from the heart. From Sugar Land Bible Church. 1) There is one God, creator of all things. He is perfect, infinite, and eternal in all His ways. He exists in three separate, but equal, Persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. (Deut. 6:4; Gen. 1:1; John 6:27; Heb. 1:8; Acts 5:3,4; 2 Cor. 13:14). 2) Jesus Christ is true God and true Man. He was conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He lived a sinless life, died on the cross, was buried, and arose on the third day. He later ascended into Heaven where He is presently seated at the right hand of God the Father as our High Priest and Advocate. (John 1:1; Phil. 2:5-8; Luke 1:30-35; 2 Cor. 5:21; 1 Cor. 15:3,4; Heb. 7:25; 1 John 2:1). 3) The Holy Spirit is the third Person of the Trinity whose ministry is to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ. He accomplishes this ministry by convicting individuals of their sin, by regenerating, sealing, baptizing and indwelling the believing sinner permanently at the moment of conversion, and by empowering the Christian for godly living and service without the manifestation of supernatural sign gifts. (John 16:7-15; Tit. 3:5; 1 Cor. 6:19; Eph. 1:13; Rom. 8:2,4,12,13, 1 Cor. 12:13). 4) The Scriptures, both the Old and New Testaments, are the verbally inspired and inerrant Word of God. Divine inspiration extends equally and fully to all parts and words of the Bible, so that the whole Bible, in the original manuscripts, is without error. The Bible is God’s revelation to man and is therefore the final authority for all Christian faith and practice. (2 Tim. 3:16,17). 5) God created man in His image for His glory. However, Adam disobeyed God and as a consequence died spiritually. This spiritual death, or total depravity, has been transmitted to the entire human race. Thus, every person comes into this world with a nature which has neither the desire nor the ability to please God, and is therefore in need of divine grace. (Genesis 1:26; 2:17; 3:1-7; Romans 3:10-18; 5:12; Ephesians 2:1-7). 6) God has provided the remedy for our disobedience by sending His Son, Jesus Christ, to be the sacrifice for our sins. God has determined that we do not receive forgiveness as a result of our religious deeds or other good works, no matter how well intended, but only by personal faith in Jesus Christ. Those who receive Jesus Christ as their Savior are at that point born of the Spirit and are assured of an eternity in Heaven. (Romans 5:6-9; Romans 4:5; Ephesians 2:8,9; John 3:5-18). 7) The “true Church”, which began at Pentecost, is composed of all individuals who through faith in Jesus Christ have been united together in one body, of which Jesus Christ is the head. (Matt. 16:18; Acts 1:5; 2:41, 42; 1 Cor. 12:13; Eph. 4:15). 8) Each “local church”, such as Sugar Land Bible Church, is a physical body of believers by which the “true Church” of Christ is shown to the world. God stresses the importance of the local church by giving it officers and ordinances. We believe that each local church is autonomous, having the right and responsibility to decide and govern its own affairs under the authority of Jesus Christ, through the guidance of Scripture. (1 Corinthians 1:2; Acts 14:23; 20:28; Heb. 13:7,17). 9) Water baptism and the Lord’s Supper are the only two ordinances given in the life of every believer. Baptism follows his/her conversion as a public declaration of his/her identification with Christ. The Lord’s Supper is to be taken regularly during the believer’s life as a memorial of Christ’s sacrificial death. Each of these is to be practiced as a testimony to the world, but neither of them is to be construed as a means of, or an additional requirement for salvation. (Acts 10:47,48; 1 Cor. 11:26). 10) Believers live with the constant hope and expectation of the imminent return of Jesus Christ. He will come first for His Saints and then return with His Saints. (John 14:1-3; Tit. 2:11-14; 1 Thess. 4:13-18). 11) Everyone, after death, will be resurrected, believers to everlasting life in Heaven, unbelievers to judgment and everlasting, conscious punishment in Hell. (John 5:28,29; Rev. 20:11-15). 12) As believers in Jesus Christ, it is God’s command that we love Him, love one another, and love those who are not believers. We can know that we love God if we are living according to His Word. We can know that we love one another if we are serving fellow believers. We can know that we love unbelievers if we are befriending them and sharing the good news of the gospel of Christ with them, both personally and through missionaries. (Mark 12:28-31; John 14:15; Phil. 2:1-5; Luke 19:10; Matt. 28:19-20).

Our DNA is complex. The DNA code is clearly created by an Intelligent Writer and Intelligent Source called God. There is also the morality argument for God's existence. Romans 14:11. I'd prefer to start practicing giving God praise now since we will be giving Him praise for all eternality anyway. Because you did not quote Exodus 21:18 along with 19 it doesn't make sense. These are rules and laws that the Jews were to follow in Biblical times under the old covenant. Exodus 21:18-19 goes together and address assault and battery duing an argument. He that did the assault must be accountable for damages. -- Exodus 21:20-21 goes together and addresses murdering a slave and the punishment for doing so. However, if the slave doesn't die immediately, that could mean that the victim was struck with the intention of discipline and not murder. The loss of the property (slave) was thought to be penalty for the master.

Because you don't have the capacity to understand true logic that's the real reason you didn't completely read the reasons (scientific, Biblical, and moral) for the existence of God the Creator of the universe. Logic dictates that this statement of yours is saying you don't believed in God, and that you are indeed stupid for not believing.
