Such an important message. It's so weird how everyone who fought to not be black before are trying to gatekeep what blackness IS now... AND THEY ARE STILL BENEFITTING FROM THEIR PHENOTYPE BECAUSE THEY ARE ALWAYS GIVEN GRACE BY PEOPLE WHO ACTUALLY LOOK BLACK... 👀 Also I love your hair!! ❤

In America, white MEN created generations of biracial and mixed race “Black” people. Both my parents are biracial as were their parents. We were all ODR regardless of skin and hair. Our particular mixed look has endured down to our children. As to African and Black men marrying out, so do BW so l don’t see the problem.
@theklr Жыл бұрын
You can’t gatekeep something you never created. Blackness is only due to erasure of identity. This is another tool used in white supremacy to believe that there’s something not already being protected yet still stolen.

Lost a “friend” over this because she’s mixed and wants to identify as solely black now (she has green eyes and opaque skin but ok) she was saying how when she tells other black girls they deny her and i explained why that may happen. She got so upset that we haven’t spoken in months and i dont think we ever will again. Just glad people are making content like this.

Stop being jealous of mixed race people of color. That girl is identifying as Black because the white government has affirmed it and y’all know that. If you don’t know it then you should learn something about American history. Some of the greatest achievements in America by Black people were from biracial and mixed race people. Surely you’ve heard of Lena Horne, Charles Drew, Adam Clayton Powell, Thurgood Marshall, Eartha Kitt… or perhaps the lady Katherine Johnson whom darker Taranji played? They were all from mixed race backgrounds. We’ve only been 150 years out of slavery. Both my parents are biracial as were their parents. My husband’s side, too. The only people here now who aren’t mixed race are Africans. Most Black Americans who say they’re Blacketty-black black have lightskin parents and grandparents who were under the ODR (one drop rule). 🇺🇸

And you know what’s equally disrespectful…..it’s when we (unambiguous Black folks) call this out, we are labeled as jealous vs the alternative of actually listening to us and doing some self analysis on how one can benefit from being able to obfuscate blackness depending on the situation.

There was a guest on the Stranger Fruit podcast that lodged a similar argument against Meghan Markle. About how specifically harmful it is to have these light-skinned and mixed bodies claim an attachment to Blackness without ever having the full experience (and oftentimes actively avoiding it). It seems odd to me that I'm expected to make space when most of them would never claim Blackness if the coins weren't there

If folks care about Black people like they claim to, they should have no issue acknowledging and hearing the voices of those who have questions about what their new found self-identification means, and the harm it causes. With such an enduring history of our identity being exploited, its okay for folks to have questions - and even create distance if those questions go unanswered.

We have ourselves to blame when people like Obama and Megan Markle told us and identified as biracial and the BLACK community told THEM they were black…….words have meaning for a reason. Race is a social construct that has implications in every aspect of life and has gone too far to be dismissed or dismantled TODAY.
@yoyodre Жыл бұрын
Except Obama identifies as black. And all versions of black are valid. Race is a social construct and the way you're using it is in ideology the same as the way white supremacists use race to gatekeep whiteness.
