Crazy how many people can relate. I made this video as its something I needed to see when I was first starting out. I just want to be clear that being genuinely healthy will not ruin your life. Health is balance. the video was to show how what I (and many others) thought was healthy was actually extremely unhealthy. Thanks for the video Greg, it really helps raise awareness for something you have already helped many with🙂

This except I do make allowances for aging and injury because otherwise realising you can't do things you used to is depressing as fuck. My upper body is way better now but I ignore how much worse some leg muscles are since I majorly broke it and can't ever get it back to that level of functionality (killer arthritis as well as other damage, it's totally fucked lol). Therefore, upper body is the focus

I felt this as a teenager and early 20s. I never ate one unhealthy food for 10 years. Never even had a birthday cake lol. And refused to go on vacations or go out to eat because it would mess up my diet. Never missed one workout and would workout 7 days a week, and still hit the gym when sick with high fevers above 103. Had very little social life. Took a long time to live a mentally healthy life after. I wasn't even until the last few years, I had ever consumed things like pie, burgers, tacos, and many other things for the first time in my life.

@@jelleposthuma8786 I feel good now. But it took awhile to get use to living a more mentally healthy lifestyle. Now I still workout a few days a week and eat pretty healthy. But with a social life and being able to go out regularly. In retrospect I feel I should have had a social life, and went out and just ate healthy choices. But I was such a perfectionist it didn't seem good enough at the time. But now I realize it would have made little to no difference. Still remember one of my dates in highschool, bringing raw broccoli and a protein shake to go play miniature golf lmao.

I just took a rest week off after hitting some intense leanness for me (11-12%?) Taking a week off of exercising, my body shedded an extra 5 lbs of water weight surprisingly. Now lean and light, I can tell my body wants more food in my first day back to exercise. Like I ate extra earlier and still got shaky. Time to pull the reins, feed my activity and have less hungry time so my body can acclimate to this. If I'm too lean I will return to higher fat, I have pics of my peak to remember the good times.

@@tomlazoriksuccessfitness Agree, I’ve experienced some similar issues early-on in my own fitness journey many years ago. Didn’t see myself accurately in the mirror even though everyone else thought I was in great shape. The fake natty’s of those days & misinformation in magazines messed with my head before I learned more & knew better. It’s harder than ever today because of what a mess the fitness space is on social media, youtube, & regular media. Beginners have no way to know what’s legit information vs. what’s not, or what’s a reasonable & achievable natural goal vs. what’s only achievable by heavily abusing PEDs. I genuinely feel bad for people today who are looking for legit help & advice, & unfortunately end up getting it from the biggest names in the industry who also happen to be some of the worst in the industry (think VShred & others like him…..), as it only makes these issues Josh discussed even worse.

I lost friends, a girl friend, and avoided social gatherings because of my drive to be fit. Couldn't go to parties because alcohol and lack of sleep would ruin my progress. Couldn't eat at restaurants because I didn't know the full macros and calorie content. Couldn't hang out after work because I had to get in my 2nd session of legs in for the week. Couldn't go on vacations because there wasn't going to be a gym. I'm glad I got injured right before COVID lock down. It made me realize what was really important. I gained 20lbs since my injury at the end of 2019 but I'm so much happier now that I'm not obsessed with all the nuances of being fit.

I do struggle to get enough calories in, while trying to keep a "clean" diet. I just don´t want to eat junk food all the time. So what really helps me is using peanut butter on a lot of snacks and food during the day. Of course it helps, that I like it, but maybe it can help you as well, since it is really calorie dense. Avocado is one of those foods as well. Just make some selfmade guacamole (mashed avocado with lemon, salt an pepper, very easy to make) and put it on bread for example. Or it just works as a side dish for many meals. Greg also has quite some videos on calorie dense and low dense foods, that might help you find the right foods for you. But I do understand the struggle to actually eat more calories, even if you want to. So keep trying. Wish you all the best

I followed so many fitness influencers from a young age and followed diet advice off less educated influencers, ended up firstly bulking which I ended up fat and then went on a drastic cut and then couple years later became anorexic, constantly fearing foods that have been labelled “bad” doing excessive cardio and lifting weights. So glad I found your channel Greg as you tell people to be realistic and that being shredded year round is not healthy. I now know to no longer take the advice off people who just spew for views. I’m at a healthy weight and I have enough energy to train harder than last time and increase the weights I’m lifting and still do cardio 5 days a week because I love it. Since watching Greg’s channel I’ve completely changed my life round for the better

This was the first summer that I actually enjoyed my life outside of a gym. I went on vacation and stayed active while also being mindful of my eating with some treats here and there. My friend had to remind me yesterday was the first time she saw me eat cake in 2 years. I honestly had to learn the hard way with the proper diet and exercise must be balanced especially with weight training. I agreed with your quote saying that your dream body once you get there, you will want more. Unfortunately that feeling is too real and it’s sad honestly I wasted so many years of my life worrying about how I looked. There are days when I have to check myself when those thoughts come about one arm being bigger than the other or picking apart my physical appearance. It’s never okay to be in this cycle as being happy and healthy is something I thought I could never be.

Honestly, more people need to see this. I don't have orthorexia (a family member of mine had the misfortune of having similar EDs, so I immediately understood how risky that mindset is), but I used to be pretty overweight (according to the BMI, at my fattest I was around 15 kg overweight, which more or less 33 lbs) so I was convinced by my family to go through a pretty drastic diet that made me lose 25 kg (55 lbs). Everyone complimented me on my drastic transformation, but I felt like shit. I honestly felt worse than when I was at my fattest, still to this day I struggle with doing exercises that I had an easier time doing when I weighed 40 lbs more, and every time someone asked me my secret, my answer was always "I don't think you really wanna know". Now I'm doing better, my diet is way more normal, and maybe I just had to go through something drastic to "detox" from my more self destructive eating habits (I'm 5'9 and used to weigh almost 200 lbs, now I'm at a more manageable 150, but at my lightest I was at 145), but during that time I was miserable in every aspect.
