Why is it so hard to accept the flaws in yourself, when it's so easy to accept the flaws in a friend?
@daisychain3007
@daisychain3007 3 жыл бұрын
I think that the reason we cannot accept flaws in ourselves, Sandra, is because ,in our childhood, that we get told we are clumsy, stupid, etc. How many times has a well-meaning parent said to us: "Let me do it for you" when he or she sees you struggling, but the trouble with not allowing your child to do anything because you are afraid that he or she will mess it up is that you are preventing him or her from learning and progressing. Struggling is part of progress, part of independence.

@@daisychain3007 this is so true! My parents always done things "for me". As an adult I told them that it would have been nice if they let me do things by myself when I was a little Girl (like to buy ice cream or something) and the interessting thing about is that my mom told me that it went faster if she did it herself... and that really hit me! I am always struggling with the thoughts that I don't can do the symple things because I can't do it (good enough) and now I know where this thoughts comes from. This is why I don't really into having kids on my own you can destroy them and won't even notice...this is so scary!

My father told me when I was quite young that failure is when you know you're in the game. If you don't fail, it's because you're not trying, and if you're not trying, then you're standing on the sidelines. Failure is where the learning happens, it's the building block to success. If you never fail, you never learn. It's a lesson I took with me through life and probably the best lesson I ever learned.

I have never felt like my own " best friend" and have lived my life constantly beating myself up for one thing or the other.....anything and everything have fallen under my hammer of self criticism. It has truly taken a toll on me in so many ways, my relationships, my physical health and my mental health. I DO NEED to begin to unwind that chain and begin a new inner dialogue....I have to say that I am at a loss as to how to begin to unwind that perpetual loop of negativity but this video has given me the inspiration I need to try to do just that. I always find peace and grace in your videos. I spent this month on my channel creating rituals for self-acceptance. I realized a while ago that self-care didn’t work for me because I didn’t love aspects of myself, and that was because I didn’t accept aspects of who I am. These fundamentals are so key. Many blessings and Happy Self-Acceptance day! 😃🤗🙏🏽🥰 It’s my personal rebranding of Valentines day 😃

Happy Valentines Day, dear! I’m single, so I’ve celebrated by showering before dawn, fixing my hair and putting on a little bit of makeup. I’ve lingered in the smells of fresh laundry. Cooked pancakes and an egg and steak omelette for breakfast, and cleaned the kitchen including the floors. We all have our comforts. 🤷‍♀️😂😂 🥰🥰🌹💋❤️💋🌹🥰🥰

The pandemic has given me the opportunity to do my work from home. It has been wonderful. Every day is so relaxing. I just happened upon your channel and I see that I live a similar lifestyle. I live alone in a rural area, I heat my house with wood, knit and play musical instruments every day. It's truly been blissful to not have to work in an "office" this past year. A saying that came to mind when watching this video is: "If being hard on yourself worked, it would have worked by now." So very true. You have a lovely channel. I'm sure I'll visit often.

I like who I have grown to be, and I appreciate that you have found the way to being comfortable and happy in yourself. That is key to health, both inner and outer.

So at night I took a minute to thank my inner team(heart,lungs,liver,kidneys, and all the other unsung heroes working for me every day behind the scenes) I promise to do my best to help them to do their best and ask for forgiveness if it was a tad too much sugar or salt today or not enough sleep yesterday and to keep up walking every day,all of you out there have a great day enjoy Your-"Selves"

Thank you so much for sharing this. It was so soothing. I was brought up in a household that taught me from childhood that mistakes are only made if you don't care enough. Over 30 years and I still have that cruel inside voice every time I make a mistake or something goes wrong. I don't like that voice and I still try hard every day to make it stay silent. I can care about every aspect of something, but mistakes and accidents just happen sometimes. It is never the end of the world, nor even the last time I'll try.

You reminded me of my father when I would bring my report card home from school. I remember asking him if it was alright. And he asked me “what do you think?”. And because of his caring and non-judgmental attitude I was able to address the situation with equally calm attention and decide where I needed to improve and how to go about it. It’s given me the ability to persevere in life and not get bogged down when I fail at something. As well, my faith has taught me that I am created perfectly by God and to respect and care for myself as is worthy of His creation. When I get down on myself for something I stop and remember “I am fearfully and wonderfully made”. Happy Valentines Day. St. Valentine is truly an example of strength and faith💕

“Failure” is nothing more than an opportunity for growth, and becoming a reflective practitioner helps us assess and adjust for the next time. These cognitive actions are part of higher order thinking (Blooms Taxonomy). Yes, I am an educator. I teach art. The act of creating is at the top of the higher order thinking chart. It requires assessing and adjusting throughout the creative process. This kind of thinking carries into all areas of our lives. Thanks for sharing your wisdom!

The ultimate goal of my religion is to eliminate self altogether, to become so transparent to the Transcendent that the self disappears. I have seen this moment of Enlightenment in the faces of those who have experienced it, and the result of that self-extinction is always explosive joy. So it doesn't matter if we are our best friend, or dwell on self-criticism, because both extremes reveal that fundamental and powerful attachment to self which is the roadblock to spiritual advancement. Thank you for your recipes, and your tips on cleaning, but I can't think like you.

Thanks Bonnie - YES! This is making me ponder again what I am learning in a book I am reading. In essence the spiritual life is about expanding past self-absorption into basically self-forgetting service. Here are some of the quotes: We live in a self-absorbed, competitive culture: getting left behind by others is terrifying and failing is unacceptable. The pressure this creates keeps us in a state of perpetual contraction, unable to be fully alive. The solution I’m offering may seem radical, even foolish: encouraging you to give things away (not just material things but control, status, adoration, etc.) to serve a Higher World that you can’t see. When presented with this new way of living, most of us are skeptical. We’ve spent most of our lives pursuing what we think of as personal success, focused on what we want for ourselves. This gives us our identity. The idea that life will change for the better when we become less self-absorbed feels like a sucker’s bet. The irony is that I’m not asking you to lose your identity; I’m asking you to find it. Finding yourself is a paradox. You become your real, Higher Self by putting your personal goals second and the Higher World’s first. Only in this role of helping and service do you expand into full aliveness. And only in this fully alive state can you be a bridge between the Higher and Lower Worlds. (From Coming Alive by Phil Stutz and Barry Michels)

@@carolc2574 Christianity. "Losing your life to gain it" is usually understood to mean physical martyrdom. But in terms of spiritual evolution, it means losing all those conceptions of selfhood which prevent us from dissolving into God. Subtracting all focus on self and all the socializations which are so prevalent on this website to become one's authentic self. This is a spiritual martyrdom, the loss of one's "life" while one is still alive.

One of the advantages of being your own best friend is simply having someone to talk to, someone you don’t have to hide anything from. Someone you couldn’t hide anything from. It is liberating, in a way. It can also be disturbing. There are things you don’t want to think about, or to talk about or even admit to yourself.

Watch a baby learning how to stand or walk. Falls many times, but no sense of failure or even of thought. Just keeps getting up and trying again. On her own timetable. Huge smile on her own, when she first stands or walks. That is real self-esteem. This is a natural, primal instinct inside all of us, that we unfortunately lose as we judge ourselves too harshly or let others judge us. But if we can get back to those same primal baby instincts, they will the best for us in an effortless, natural manner.

I didn’t want to see this video because I’ve found it hard to be my own best friend. Why should I, I’ve told myself. This is not the way it should be. So I took the leap of faith and I took a listen. I wasn’t sure what you’d say. I was surprised, not because of what you said, but a lot of what you shared is how I’ve been with myself. Thank you. I’ve listened to this video several times now, and will incorporate it into my alone times. I’ve shared this video to several of my dear friends and my sister-in-law. I’ve also posted it onto my Facebook page. I like to share good things that will help others think about how they see themselves and how they see others. I don’t even know how I found your channel, but I want you to know I SO appreciate you. ❤️. Sending you love from Southern California. By the way, Ireland is one of my dream destinations.
