Just wanted to say thank you for making this. I left Windows for Linux about 6 years ago and I’m a dev that uses vim in every application that lets me and learning vim as well as the command line, Unix system file structure and learning to program in general, picking up another operating system, distribution, window manager, installation method, you name it and it has all been and continues to be such an awesome learning experience. Recently, I have been using a new computer with windows and for the first time I’m not dual booting Linux as well, I have enough computers with many different operating systems(OpenBSD, and other lesser known operating systems) because of a few reasons - work being one and wanting to play some computer games that I haven’t had the urge to do in years but have recently wanted to have some fun gaming. Anyways let me get to the point, I’m using windows (11) and out of habit I want a nice terminal with a custom prompt, a version of my init.vim centered around windows and it’s file structure. I have done this before but I went straight to WSL and just used my same Linux setup, which basically I learned nothing new. This time I wanted to keep this all windows based and see how nice I could get things and see if I could make it optimized to the workflow I have come to love - tiling window management, vim centric, you get my point. I thought this would be easier than I came to find out. I have been struggling with things I usually know how to do soooo well like environmental/path based settings, not understanding why powershell wasn’t picking up anything I installed with everything from winget to choco packages. I was almost at my wits end about to say F it and just run a virtual Linux on a virtual desktop way in the back like always do. But I figured I would see if there were any good tutorials to do what I haven’t been able to do. And you my friend. After following this video. My setup is EXACTLY the way I want it. Only thing I want to add is something like Pywal, one of my favorite little programs that sets a wallpaper and a color theme to pretty much every program you’re using all with whatever alias or hot key I choose. I tried installing winwal (windows version of Pywal) Wallust (another attempt at windows version of Pywal but uses Rust/Cargo) and I couldn’t get powershell to recognize they existed. But again, after watching this video I think I’ll have no problem installing some version of Pywal that works with windows. If you know, or have ever gotten this to work yourself, maybe you could let me know where I’m going wrong if it doesn’t work later on when I get home from work. Anyways, sorry I am a long winded person. If you’ve gotten this far, thank you again. And you got a new happy subscriber. :)

@@BekBrace wow I didn’t expect a response. And about 2 days later after binging the rest of your incredible content - saying you’ve reinvigorated and inspired my joy of programming would be an understatement. I have recently been kind of at a crossroads with what I want to learn next. About two years ago I got heavily into 3D design and hard surface modeling. I’ve been using an incredible piece of software called Plasticity3D and it was build by a sole developer basically in TypeScript. So I’ve been learning TypeScript on top of JS as well as 3D design. So after watching almost half of your content. I feel like I have so many things I want to learn and build that I don’t even know where to start. Early in my programming career I was really into color theory and what they call “ricing” my work environment. And as I briefly mentioned in my last comment. I think I’m going to build my own version of Pywal. Maybe I’ll do it while learning Rust and build it as I learn. Basically I want to build something that with a click of a button or running a script - it will set a wallpaper, and synchronize a vim color scheme, a bas/zsh/etc prompt as well as the terminal and as many other pieces of software I can. Thanks for the inspiration and I would absolutely welcome any suggestions or help in any way. Feels good to have that early new project excitement again. Look forward to talking with you more @BekBrace. Have a good one.

for some reason the plugins dont't install? why is that? all it says is that it isn't an editor command
@BekBrace Жыл бұрын
If Neovim plugins aren't installing and you're encountering an "not an editor command" error, first ensure your chosen plugin manager is properly configured in your Neovim initialization file. Double-check for syntax errors in your configuration. Run the appropriate plugin installation command (:PlugInstall for Vim-Plug, for example) within Neovim. Confirm your permissions for reading and writing to Neovim and plugin directories. Also, check if the Neovim version is compatible with your plugins.

Why on earth is the default style for a directory the biggest ugliest highlighter you've ever seen and how does one eradicate such transgressions? (08:55)

how to set icons in zsh bcz there is no import module working
@BekBrace11 ай бұрын
To set icons in Zsh, you typically use a Zsh theme that supports icons. Most Zsh themes that include icons rely on external fonts like Powerline Fonts, Nerd Fonts, or Font Awesome to display the icons properly in the terminal. Here's an example of how you might set the ZSH_THEME variable in your .zshrc file: ZSH_THEME="agnoster" Replace "agnoster" with the name of the theme you've installed.

Yo brother My nvim terminal is not becoming transparent
@BekBrace6 ай бұрын
If you want it to be transparent, in your init.nvim comment out the theme line, I think the theme was jellyfish if I'm not mistaken, once it's commented out, you'll find that nvim won't have any themes, hence transparent
