Miele S2111 - DEATH by a broken Solder Joint!

I picked this up from Facebook last year, and finally got round to doing something about it! This is a horrible Miele, I will not lie but if we can get some life into it, I can refurbish it and sell it! But first, we need to see what is wrong with it!

Hier precies hetzelfde probleem. Motor uit elkaar gehaald. Puntje gesoldeerd en hiermee was het probleem opgelost. Bedankt voor de video.

Fascinating, terrifying, sad ...I'm a perfectionist so I hate to see a Miele trashed like that. My upright is 3 years old and box flawless. Literally. But you are a wonder! Enjoyed this so much!!! 👍☺

Do you have any ideas on what might cause one of these S2111s to slowly die (RPMs drop) as it is running? Seems to come back to life eventually so somewhat intermittent.

That black 3-legged thing is the triac.It's the main part of the speed Control and gets very hot in use.That's why they break internally or burn the soldering.The other is the thermal cutout.

Crikey I've been getting that wrong for years then! But they've always blown a leg off in my experience of 4... Seem fine once soldered back on badly!

@@beko1987 Yes, the triac is essentially an electronically controlled switch that makes the speed control work, in exactly the same way that a dimmer switch works. They don't like heat too much so are apt to fail in abused vaccuum cleaners. Watched your video to find out where it is on this model as I expected to find it external to the motor unit until I saw that the motor has 4 terminals. A normal universal motor would have just 2.

So funny watching you struggle to take it apart. I'd just spent half an hour making exactly the same mistakes :-) And then I couldn't find the triac which was what I was looking for, having ruled out the fuse and switch. But there it is, inside the motor unit. See my other comment about triacs, below.

My nana has one of these in white! But hers is a S2110. She's had it as long as I can remember! It replaced a Dyson. Now it gets confusing her because in her living room I remember seeing a DC05 green and purple. But she said it was an upright. And it was purple. Don't know what it was. My first guess was a DC07 Animal. But my granny has one of those. As well as a DC27 Animal and a DC35 Digital Slim. My nan also had a grey Electrolux Bagged Cylinder, and a Electrolux Handheld in its stand my grandad's garage. But they don't have any of those anymore! The Electrolux cylinder was replaced by a Numatic Hetty HET200A. The handheld was replaced by a Pifco Handheld which gets used on the stairs. But surprisingly not in the car. My grandad never hoovers his car. Because I do it! 😉 I use one of my bench vacs. I have 3 bench vacs. But ones a carpet washer so I shouldn't include the carpet washer which is a Numatic George GVE370 from 2001. They also had for my great aunt (which has now passed away) a Ewbank Carpet Sweeper. Which they still have. But it doesn't get a lot of use now.

When the solder goes, the motor exhaust air can be like fire. The solder doesn't melt at random.
