Could we get a deep dive as to why so many political entities are against the bill? You have mostly presented the bill from a positive view, and it felt partisan. You are totally entitled to your opinion, but if we subjectively need to look at this bill as parents. I would like to know why there is this divide. So what are the negatives of this bill? Why are so many parties against it really? Why are they presenting it in such a negative light if you say its such a good bill? How is South Africa even going to afford such a bill when the country cant even accommodate the current schools? Many many questions left unanswered

@@bryansteyn9542 The government will now have the authority, to tell schools, what language the kids in that school must be taught in. It is a gross overreach of the government and against the constitution to let people choose how their kids are educated.

Voting took place before the election. Why did the ANC only get 40% in the election? They are not able to produce what they are mandated to do. Also, draconian legislation is pushed through regularly whithout the proper mediation with the public. Please be realistic here, the public pushed heavily against this BELA bill before it was accepted by parliament. Please people, Afriforum, Neil de Beer, and lots more are not stupid. Listen to what they have to say as well.

It's also good to communicate with the parents if their kid misbehaves. Make sure you have proof, keep a record of what is happening and mention that this behaviour will greatly affect their kid's future if they don't do something about it. Otherwise why else are they in school? Keep addressing the parents, let them know if their kids behaviour is improving or getting worse.

As an Afrikaans person I have no problem with BELA as you have explained it. The school from my hometown however is owed millions by the department of education. The SGB and parents of the school must make plans and do fundraisers all the time to keep the school afloat, as the government is not fulfilling its legal and financial duties toward the school. This relates directly to admission policy because the school now requires application for admission on about 4 levels during the schooling processes from Grade R through to Matric. People with a history of non-payment of school fees, are not accepted again at the next application stage. So its simple. If the government does not force SGB's to financially fight for the continued existence of schools, and honoured their obligations to the schools and schooling system of the country, there would be much less opposition to stricter oversight of admission policies, and more trust in the ability of government to run things.

@@katlegosehole1041It is a concern for me I must be honest with you Katlego but I get solace from the fact that if we do everything right surrounding our emigration policy we will not have to deal with illegal immigrants at our schools, not on a large scale anyway. Emigration is a problem around the world and it's not a zero sum game half the time. You win some, you lose some. I want Afriforum and all the agents of anti transformation to take this bill to the constitutional court so the court can pronounce on these matters once and for all. Mind you the land bill is also going to be highly contested so it will be great for the constitutional court to set the tone cause ultimately all these issues are intertwined. It's transformation versus anti transformation. That's what it boils down to.

I generały like your opinion and agree with you. You presume that the present education system will equip our children for life. The present education system does not create problem solvers and alternative thinkers that we so desperately need. This system is more that 180 years old and is absolutely behind the times. School is a production line for producing mediocrity. We are taking playful learning away from our children and put them in a „Prison” for 12 years and then we try to integrate them into life. We destroy the natural genius of our children! Many studies are available on this, read the study by Dr George Land that was done for NASA in 1970. Why are a very small percentage of people happy in their jobs as adults? Because they were forced to do something that has nothing to do with their passion. THE PRESENT SCHOOLING SYSTEM IS FAILING OUR CHILDREN AND HAMUNTITY WORLD WIDE. 😢 Dan are you a parent?

😂 You haven't given one supplement for disciplining a child. I am a teacher, you are not. Go teach for a year and see how you do with unruly kids😂😂😂 Teachers are helpless already. E.g. In our school we have a debit system, x amount of debits = detention. Parents come with lawyers to school to fight the teachers about their debits and detention. It's absolutely crazy. The parents don't discipline their children, they encourage them to be unruly.

Your credentials as a "student of education" does not make you more of an expert on parenting, than that of an actual parent. I am the latter, by the way. If the Government's sole agenda was to help more kids attend school, they should have focused on building actual schools and training teachers - all of which we have a disgraceful lack of. Their solution, in other words, will be to cram more children into already overcrowded classrooms, which will inevitably lead to less attention to all children. Karl Marx wrote in the communist manifesto that it is necessary for children to be educated by a state controlled education system and the reason being, so that they don't even see the indoctrination taking place in front of their very own eyes. It is despicable to see the centralization of power taking place in South Africa to the extent that it currently is, and there are very few people (certainly not in mainstream media) who are willing to speak up and stand up for our freedoms. South Africa truly has the potential to be the greatest nation in Africa, and we will not allow the marxist globalists to tear our country apart.

Telling a child that they need to work harder and put in more effort or else they will fail, is already considered threatening behaviour and can get the teacher fired. Don't ask a radio DJ to say "for me this makes sense" when he has NO experience of how difficult it is in the classroom. Every teacher who really cares about education and helping children has already had their spirit broken by over-officiating by the department. These laws don't affect schools and teachers who don't care and just collect a salary for doing nothing. They handcuff the schools who really want to serve. Ask yourself - is the department going to pay for extra teachers as they force a school to add an extra language of education. You are a fool if you believe that. So ultimately, yes the school will have to retrench the Afrikaans teacher in order to employ the Venda teacher. OPEN YOUR EYES. If you speak the truth you will lose your easy TV job.

I am afraid Dan that it is you who misunderstand the implications of the language and admissions policy changes in the Bela Act. If you understood it better, you would have realised that you cannot 'add' a language to a school. Does that mean you have assembly twice on Mondays? Once for the one language and once for the other language? Do you invite one language to join the Voortrekkers and the other to join the Boy Scouts? What about sport. Will one group play rugby and the other soccer? Do you have the facilities for that? Then, what about teachers? Does the department now send a complete team of teachers to teach in the new language? Obviously that will not happen. Lastly the most important. Will the new group pay their school fees as diligently as the parents of the original language group? Experience have shown that where Afrikaans schools allowed an English class to be added, the Afrikaans parents were required to financially carry the 'English' group. The result was that the Afrikaans parents took their kids to a different school and Afrikaans at that school died.

Please explain what “other” ways teachers may use to discipline children. I have a family member who dedicated his life to teaching maths and physics ( he is an absolutely brilliant teacher and would have been snapped up by any private school) He felt he wanted to contribute to education in less privileged areas But for the most part of his teaching career his was tormented by a lot of his students The poor discipline and total “anarchy” destroyed him and took a toll on his health He is the gentlest soul I watched his passion for teaching wither over the years It was so sad He has now taken an early retirement at age 58 and will tutor from his home But I can honestly say education has lost a gem My son attends one of the most prestigious private schools in JhB and is one of the top maths students. When he gets stuck or needs some help he calls on this family member. My son says that he has a gift.. he is patient and has an ability to break down complex maths problems into simple and understandable ways I just wanted to share this story as I don’t believe it is unique by any means but I do believe our teachers are not well supported

Is it supposed to be people's problems that the government were too lazy and criminal by stealing money to not build schools for the other 9 languages in this country? And if you think Afrikaans schools are white only dream on. Go to the Western half of the Northern Cape and rural Western Cape where coloureds form over 75% of the population and Afrikaans is over 85% of 1st language speakers. A couple years back there was uproar in Upington because the government tried to change an Afrikaans medium school to English. They backed down after parents protested. At the cost of sharing limited resources with more kids not born in this country we run the risk of excluding and limiting access to quality education in our most vulnerable comunities. Making it easier for illegal foreign nationals to become part of society and participate in our social and welfare systems is at the detriment of South African Children, all be it one Child. It was shocking to learn. Its been going on for yeears. That and I also found a video that looked into how apparently there are circles among affluent communities that make ways for ppl from better off countries to build whole lives under protection while bypassing home affairs and stuff... Securing jobs, homes, community for groups of ppl here and there. This country is very weird when you look at its underbelly. I can see how this bill is written to perpetuate these kinds of things... It may well be that this act doesn't prove any immediate threat, but then you need to remember that the whole world attended the 1936 Olympics in Nazi-era Berlin, and that the Allies cozied up with the likes of Stalin. @francoismienie8502
@francoismienie8502 4 күн бұрын
You dont know the first thing about homeschooling or why most people home school, and you just want to put home schoolers in the same box as public schools. Home schooling creates an environment for children to learn at the pace they can, it provides a way for parents to teach children in creative ways which helps the child learn without making them feel less and a shamed. This will be taken away if they are now being measured by a certain standard at a certain age, they will get to these standard matbe just a year or two later. And what do you think will happen if your child is not up to standard in their opinion, there is already talks about you home schooling registration will be reviewed then, and that by the people that dropped the current school passing rate to what % now? Also a lot of people home school because for financial reasons, now it is going to cost the parents more money to have thair children evaluated by some registerred evaluater. Schools dont teach and help children anymore the run through a curiculem and the teacher has so much paper work there is no time for extra attention, so everything is referred to external parties to do extra classes and all sorts of pills are pushed on you to help your child, and it all comes at extra costs. And there are many more examples

The current lack of protection for teachers in classrooms is a concern. While I recognize the importance of children attending school and the accountability of parents, sending parents to jail may be too extreme. Additionally, the school curriculum in SA is not up to international standards, resulting in many students requiring bridging courses at universities to catch up. It seems that some schools and universities have been passing students based on a curve, required numbers, or due to intimidation from student strikes. This issue needs to be addressed as it affects students genuinely striving to succeed without involvement in political matters.

Not to mention, afford the NHI... not to mention afford fixing, improving things like resources (how many thousands of schools are practically underresourced - no desks, chairs, falling apart, etc. etc.), improving facilities (sports grounds for township and rural schools, pit toilets etc. etc.), GETTING VACANT POSTS FILLED (the Dep Min said there is no money!), GETTING MORE POSTS so classes have a decent ratio of teacher to students (40-60 kids per class is disgusting)... and I could go on. How is the government going to manage the MASSIVE ADMINISTRATION this is going to result in? When public servants are often not educated enough or well-trained enough to do these jobs (I wonder why?!) How is government going to manage ACCOUNTABILITY of these thousands of administrators/watchkeepers making sure this act is carried out (not to mention pay them with a public wage bill already ballooning into a bloated 30 year old pregnancy about to pop)? How is the government going to manage and fund the endless legal battles upcoming (lawyers are rubbing their hands in glee no doubt) when a) the courts are underresourced, booked up to kingdom come and the taxpayer is being milked dryer than the Sahara with all the other new taxes needed for oh, let's see - electricity, NHI anybody? How is government going to fix the USELESS CAPS THAT GIVES US THE WORLD'S LOWEST LITERACY AND NUMERACY SCORES AND A 30% PASS RATE THAT SETS UP ALL STUDENTS TO FAIL FURTHER DOWN THE LINE AND DO SHODDY JOBS??? (I don't want a surgeon or engineer with a 30% pass rate operating on me or building my bridge or nuclear power station!!) FIX all that (and more) and we can talk new bills and new acts. Just like NHI. Instead of seize control of power, centralise all control of decision making and throw democracy under the wheels of the massive commie train barrelling down the tracks?! DAN! While the Act sure has some laudable ideas in it, it has NOT been properly thought through, properly planned and definitely not fairly propagated - the ANCancer is NOT the majority party any more and ALL the parties should have had a vote on whether this gets signed in or not (yes Parly voted it in but that was THE PREVIOUS ANC HEAVY GOVERNMENT! NOT THE ONE THAT WAS VOTED IN THIS YEAR!) I can't help but wonder - who is pulling your strings Dan? This was a good attempt at explaining some things but how about discussing the herd of elephants in the room!?

It's not about the laws... It's about implementation and we know government's track record on that.

An average voter is dumb, thats why we arent progressing in democratical policies. We need political science subject in school too. History is biased but I think in-depth policy subject need to be taught in school to get smart voters.

What is a Marxist quote on Education? The education of all children, from the moment that they can get along without a mother's care, shall be in state institutions. Wake up buddy.

The power is in the citizens hands we are the majority not the Govemment. All these parties must wind their neck in and leave our children alone. We the PEOPLE ARE THE GOVERNMENT. The best party we have in this country is 'BEYOND POLITICS '. 😡😡😡😡

We have prisons bursting at the seams, and we have dear government releasing prisoners who committed "petty" crimes like theft, robbery and drug dealing because prisons are too full but they want to arrest parents when their child is not in school? Who pays for this or is school fees going to be raised while less teachers teaches larger and larger classes? Some parents send their kids to school and then they "bank" by sneaking away just before the bell ring - then parents get jail time? Most of the EDUCATED "misinformation" deals with practicality: on paper it looks good but it does not make sense in reality. Some idiot writes up a bill, some president who rarely speaks or consult actual teachers, signs a bill and viola, here you are "correcting" the "misinformation" with very little knowledge on how on earth this can in any way shape or form be implemented in a realistic way. What is "psycological abuse" exactly? Very few teachers willingly and knowingly want to harm a child (they would not choose this difficult job if they did not care about educating kids) but here the parents and teachers are set-up for failure because everyone has their own idea about what causes "fear, anxiety" in kids. A little spider can cause "permanent psycological damage" if we are not clear and concise in language and this bill is deliberately vague so that the end result is clear: whatever goverment decides. This whole thing has a woke-scent on it and next thing you know it causes "fear and anxiety" to teach children that truth is the truth, but dont speak it because it offends. The real world is a hard place and if we are too soft and walk on eggshells around kids out of fear of offending them then no one would be emotionally equipped to handle reality after graduating from school.

You can't replace God with government, that's all I want to say about this. We don't need more government interference, we need people to stop mucking about producing offspring who they don't care for.

I think only a person who is not a parent believes that kids get a spanking because parents are terrible, mean people. Kids are very different. Some kids are compliant. Some are as stubborn as an ox. Their stubbornness could cause them serious harm. Spanking is the least amount of discipline to save the child from themselves. It is delivered with love. And it works.

Dan, let’s see how many Afrikaans schools get targeted. They are going to be forced to implement additional languages without any support. Why do the government not build additional schools instead of forcing current schools to make up for their lack of planning and investing in infrastructure? Afrikaans schools are some of the few institutions that still work in this country. In stead of celebrating their success and moving on, the government expects the Afrikaans schools to solve the country’s education problems…
