I have 3 malinois. I would not recommend this dog to a novice. They are more than a handful!...I have an 11 month old that has ton's of drive!...he is from KNPV lines. Like today I rode my quad, we have 6 acres, dog kept up with me the whole time, I was hauling butt, going top speed, and the dog didn't slack off one bit.I rode the quad all over the property until I got tired,lol...the property is on an in-cline, so I go up this in-cline at full speed, and the dog keeps right up with me, lol, so I put the quad up, and went and threw the ball for him, until I got tired, and I think he's tired also...I put him in the kennel, I had to tie down his water bucket, he's destroyed 3 heavy-duty metal water buckets, he can't use a dog house, tore up 2 dog houses.As I'm leaving the kennel, there he goes bouncing off the sides of the kennel again, and he does this non-stop, until it's time to bring him in for the night, in his crate in my room. And than he falls asleep like within 2 or 3 minutes,lol. My other two Mal's are also intense!...you have to really want and work these dog's, otherwise, yes, they will drive you nuts! lol

I owned two. Here's the summarized version. 1-Breeding matters 2-Don't get them if your lazy 3-Don't get them if you don't have dog experience. 4-Don't get them if you don't have working dog experience 5- They will not make good house dogs exclusively. They need to be busy. They love to work and need a job. If you want a protection dog to be home bound, look at other breeds like Doberman. 6-They can be super intense, as in pit bull terrier game bred bloodline intense in prey drive. Know what your getting! for that reason, they will not make great dogs with children. Sorry to burst some bubbles. Don't mix the two. THAT'S NOT TO SAY THEY'RE NOT WONDERFUL FAMILY DOGS. They are, but their energy levels are through the roof. High and a child moving fast or being rambunctious around them is a recipe for a disaster waiting to happen.

News that matter knows what's up with this breed!...he is fo sho correct!...all 3 of my mal's, I can't let them loose in the house, they cannot chill out and just relax in the house, they have to constanly move around and have something in their mouths, drive's me nuts! lol...so they have to right away go inside their crates.

Hello, im from belgium and i own a Mechelaar("Malinois" wich is french for its true flemmisch breed name) and i want to say thanks for a nice video. i own a border collie, a chiuahua and a "malinois". Border Collies are definitely the smartest breed, chihuahua's the cutest, but a mechelaar '("Malinois") is the best breed in everything else. Nothing screams athleticism, power and drive like they do. Although a word to the wise , they are WORKING dogs, not couch potato's, do a sport/job with them or they may drive you nuts.

Even though my dad says german shepherds are a better dog for new owners than a malinois bc they have not as high drive i still love malinois better. My dad has a malinois I LOVE named Irish Whiskey(aka the little irish man) that my dad calls a traitor because hes mt dads dog but when hes in a kennel and me and my dad rough house he barks at my dad and acts like he wants to eat him necause he loves me more than he loves my dad!!!!
