So glad he has a backyard now to run in. I have a 2 year old male Malinois and he loves playing in the backyard. For this breed of dog, you really need a big backyard.

Congratulations on the upgrade appartment to house. Having a Tervueren in an appartment isn't a problem. Not even in Covid Times. Tess has been with us sincewe moved into this appartment. Ok. +100 sq. m. and we do have a 30 sq.m. private garden, but still, It just depends on the dog. Tess is a tranquil dog, even though she really does need a daily excercise to keep her happy and in shape. But when me and the mrs. work from home, there is no problem... and leaving her to go out to shop or to go out and dine, for instance, no prob. As long as you keep your dog/family member happy by socialising with him/her, no sweat. We just spend a week-end at a hotel with friends. Both dogs stay in the respective rooms when we go out to dine. Keep them happy in the daytime, offer a good balance of excercise, training, and prey drive. tire them out... and they are good to go. Anywhere, anyplace, anytime! It all depends on how you raise/train them. Again, congrats on the house upgrade. No sweat having less time for KZbin. Enjoy the qualityy time together ! Ann, Frank & Tess = also a Belgian Tervueren !

I'm so glad your back as i've really missed your videos. Rancho was having a blast in the snow. Your new house looks absolutely beautiful and having a log burner will keep you nice and warm during the winter. It's great you have a back yard for Rancho. The area looks really beautiful. It will make such a difference. Hope you're all well.💜💜

You said exactly the thing I've been thinking and hypothesising about belgies and backyards. They love activity but they are social and want that activity with you - so they probably don't spend their energy if they're left outside alone (they're not dogs to leave or cage outside in general). The caveat could be if they have a dog friend, which I'm starting to think is more and more beneficial so that you don't have to take all the responsibility of draining them and they get a partner to socialise with. Trying to say that sometimes 2 is less than 1 in terms of your own energy put into taking care of the dog if they can sort of babysit each other. Like two kids don't need you to run them down as hard because they do some of it by themselves and everyone might be happier.

Great to have you all back!! It seems like such a long time. I’m so pleased you’re in your new home and it looks like you are in beautiful surroundings. May you all enjoy many happy, healthy years in your home! Agree with you totally about Belgians. My Groenendael is now 17 months old and beautiful. I live in a house with a front, back and side yard but his preferred place is in the home with me. He follows me everywhere. They are people dogs definitely. No issues with being in an apartment as long as you can exercise them but even if you had the biggest house and yard, they’d still want to be inside with you.

Hi. I just subscribed. Will check if you made a video about leaving your dog alone. If you didn't I would love to see that. Rancho is lovely! I had a working kelpie in an apartment which a lot of people think is mean, but we spent hours each day together, hiking in the local wooded parks or learning new things. He would have done it 15 hours a day if I could have, but he also was content to sleep if nothing was going on. All in all he did very well. You're right. Dedication means everything.

Rancho was loving running about in that snow at the beginning. It is lovely to see him again, and interesting to hear about your experience in your new home, and how it differs from in apartment. It is definitely handy to have a small garden, every morning Smudge does a sniff around her yard, and really seems to enjoy checking it all out. Interesting to hear that not so many people locally have pups, have to say that surprised me. Really lovely to see that you guys & Rancho are all well and good. Your new place looks fab too. 😊💙🐾

Thanks so much Smudge and fam ❤ We do love our new house!! Having a yard really is so great, Smudge has known that all along, hehe 😊 There are quite a few dogs here actually, but people don't walk them as much as city people do, unfortunately.. Often those people just have dogs to guard their houses and they spend most of their lives alone in the backyard. :(

Great video, our Terv is a year old. I remember something you mentioned in a previous video about his morning exercise. I think that may be the most important thing next to companionship. For us. Regular physical and mental exercise is so important. I think also that separation anxiety may be a concern until you get the right routine established. I think the max for us is about four hours, but not everyday maybe a couple times a week. Thank you for coming back.

Hello Rancho and boss lady! How nice to hear and see you again. you all live very nicely! A lot of time (and money) was definitely put into it. but the result is beautiful. we recognize the items you mentioned about the difference between appartement,house and the Tervuerens. We have two of them in our 90m2 appartment.But we are often outside. And indeed cleaning the house and the dogs after a rain walk is a hassle. 😏 But living together works great! In any case, we are looking forward to springtime and camping life. Have fun in your new home and surroundings.Till the next video! 👋👋👊

Hey friends! Thanks so much, so far we're loving it here. On the inside the house is almost finished, but there's still a lot of work on the outside. So we won't be bored, that's for sure. 😃 Nice to hear from you. Hehe, cleaning after a rain walk with two Tervs must be a real hassle. Camping life sounds great. We can't wait for spring either!

Hi guys, great videos, Rancho is stunning 😍 I am considering perhaps adopting a Groenendael at some point in the future. A key aspect in deciding would be time alone for the dog... As we exit the pandemic I will be working in the office more. The nature of my job allows me flexibility in my work hours. I am only a 10 minute drive from home so I could have a routine Monday to Friday as follows: 1 hour walk plus training/games before work. Then the potential dog would be at home by itself from 09:15 until 13:15 (4 hours) when I come home at lunchtime and do some training/games and stay for an hour. Back to work for 14:30 then not back home until 18:15 (another 4 hours until I'm home) although my wife would be home from work at 17:30, so not quite as bad at 3 hours 15 minutes. Then another 1 hour walk followed by training/games. My gut feeling is that it's too much time alone for the dog... what do you guys think? All the best, Evan
@ranchothedog2 жыл бұрын
I think it's actually ok, not everyone can work form home all of the time. But the beginning might be hard because for a puppy it'll take some time to get used to this daily routine. If you go for a walk before leaving for work as well, sounds like it could work ;)

Belgian shepherds most definitely need a large yard and house as they are loud and highly active. Would never recommend anyone with an apartment, condo, or townhome to get a Belgian. And also, they need your full focus. They are not for people who leave for work all day, or need to be glued to a desk all day at home. Also not ideal for small children. They need activity numerous times per day. And deserve it. It’s what they’re meant to do. Work. I’ve seen Belgians surrendered too many times by people who are completely unprepared for the amount of work that goes into them. It’s very upsetting.
