John Mateer WSU. Obviously not a top of the draft QB, but I think he’s worthy of a team taking a flyer on. Probably won’t come out until after next season, but this dude is 6’1” ~220lbs, broke an 82 year old school record with 200 yards rushing, just put up over 500 total yards with 5 tds, can run and throw for big numbers. 3tds in the 4th quarter, marched his team up the field in less than 30 seconds to tie and then won in OT. Exciting player to watch. He’s basically his team’s entire offense. If his accuracy can improve he could very well become top tier. Even still, 16TDs and over 1500 yards in 4 games raises my eyebrows Hasn’t faced top level opponents, but he did beat UW (sorry Bellichek! Lol) and San Jose state isn’t exactly trash this year. They put up 52 points in their first loss of the year. Looking forward to seeing this kid progress. If you haven’t seen him, check him out! Moves like a running back and can throw for 350, 400 yards in a game.
@Ixis042 ай бұрын
As a WSU student, I can't wait to see how Mateer develops over the year. Definitely feels like an old-school college QB from the 2000s or 2010s, who does enough with the arm to get respect, but the rushing ability is ELITE. He's definitely done more with his arm from the pocket in recent weeks, which is an indicator that he can develop into an NFL passer in the future. Love the guy, and Pullman loves to have him. He'll probably get ignored in the media, cus the Cougs never get any headlines, but I hope Mateer stays an extra year with us instead of transferring last minute like Ward.

I really thought Sean Payton did a disservice to Bo Nix during the preseason. He wanted him to be the starter so bad he ran so many RPO's to get him completions when we know he can do that and I thought he should have been getting Bo work in the drop back pass game and under center play action. I also really like the "under center" take that Bill had, I have been complaining about the Eagles not running under center since Steichen was there and I loved Steichen and I have complained even more since he left. I feel like teams that stay in the gun take away a lot of options from the offense when in the NFL a coach should use every tool that is available to them

Josh Allen is one of the best PASSING QBs in the NFL. To say Richardson or Milroe are even in the same category is insane. Neither of those QB’s will ever be successful in the passing game. Too stupid to understand NFL defenses.
@alexmyers30002 ай бұрын
@@joeshmoe8134 no no no Joe…I’m not saying they’re at his level at all, just that they have his template (if they improve over time like Allen did they could get to his level)…and look at the tape, Allen was not a great passer his first couple years in the league he had a passer rating of 67.9 🤮 with 10 tds and 12 picks…YOU DONT KNOW BALL JOE…also how the fuck do you know how smart Richardson is??
@ThreadAndCircuses1Ай бұрын
@@joeshmoe8134 This is a harsh comment, but it's not being stupid, it's not being able to process fast enough. 99.99 percent of college QBs can't process quickly enough at the NFL level.
@natetewkesburyАй бұрын
*The Josh Allen "Template" is most comparable to Ben Roethisberger. Allen is just faster and more dynamic. Milroe, Richardson, and even Hurts are not the same type of "Template" Roethlisberger and Allen both 6'5 and over 235lbs but use their size to keep plays alive, create out of structure by keeping there eyes down field, always looking to make the pass. Buy time with the backyard, scramble ability and break tackles but still would rather make a throw to the WRs. Mahomes is the same. But it was Roethlisberger that started this play style when QBs like Brady, Manning, and Brees all preferred to stay in the pocket and stay within the game plan. Difference is that Big Ben, Allen, and Mahomes all played QB within the pocket, in the Offensive structure on a elite level as well. Those 3 QBs and to a lesser degree, Aaron Rodgers, all had the same template. Always keeping plays alive with their instincts, natural feel for the game, and big arms. They all have cannons and can throw on the move with different arm angles as well. Brady, Manning, and Brees just never had to do any of this. I would also say that Allen has a long way to go to get to the Roethlisberger or Rodgers level as far as being pure QBs. Once those players got into their 30's they dialed the playmaking back some and was more of the pocket passer. But I say all this b/c the Milroes, Richardson, and Hurts are not those guys. They don't see the game the same way or have that "feel or instinct" for what the Defense is doing or how they are being game planned for. These QBs today are much more dynamic with elite athletic ability but none of those QBs mentioned have even taken snaps from under center and ran pro-style Offenses. And in the NFL you have to be able to do both. Most the QBs today have 2 or 3 reads and then take off and run. Big Ben, Rodgers, Mahomes, and Allen all was taught or learned to read defensive coverages, not the WR, and would take off to pass. Big difference. Caleb Williams is very much in the mold of these QBs. I also see some of that in Jordan Love game too. Jaden Daniels can play that way at times but is more from the RG3 or Lamar template, and uses his athleticism to make plays with his running ability. Although I do think Daniels has the tools to do both like Mahomes and Allen. One other QB I somehow failed to mention that also was just like the Big Ben/Josh Allen type was Russell Wilson. Yes he played the same exact way. And this is the best version of QB in today's NFL, no debate. Every GM or Coach wants the Roethlisberger, Rodgers, Russ, Mahomes, and Allen type QB*

Belichick still with the "rotational " player at Michigan narrative with Brady. Cowherd says the same thing. Bradys junior year he started and finished every game. His senior year he started every game but they had to give Drew Hensen playing time. Hensen, the most highly recruited player since Marcus Dupree, was also signed by the Yankees. Had Hensen stayed playing football at Michigan, Mel Kuiper said he would have been the #1 overall pick. Regardless, after the MSU game Coach Llyod Carr ended the "rotation" and Brady didnt have to share snaps. Brady was at Michigan 5 years, started 26 games. MVP of the Orange Bowl. Had he not run the 40, he would have been drafted in 2nd or 3rd round

If a QB’s major skill is he’s good at running the ball or someone you don’t want to tackle in the 4th qtr, he’s not a competent/starting QB in the NFL. He’s just not. It works in college where the skill level is low, but these types of QB’s are not franchise/SB winning players.
