✅ About The Leca Queen :
Nora here! Welcome to The Leca Queen channel.
I love all things indoor PLANTS. I enjoy growing my plants in SOILESS media; yep, no soil! I primarily use LECA (clay balls) to grow my plants using hydroponics (semi-hydroponics).
I show you how my beautiful plants grow in LECA and help you achieve the RESULTS that I have. I cover a TON of leca growing tips, a very comprehensive leca 101 where I hold your hand and help you navigate the world of semi-hydroponics.
I love to experiment and discover different ways of taking care of plants. There is no right or wrong way, just the way that works for you and your plants. Join me on my many plant adventures.

I love this video. I was so intimidated by plants and semi-hydro when I started. After much experimenting I have gotten it down to simple techniques and much less maintenance than when I started. Of course, different people have different experiences, and different parts of the world have different growing needs whether you use potting mix or semi-hydro.

I followed your directions and planted my Krimson Queen Hoya into leca and she has put out a shoot with 4 fast growing leaves! She hadn’t grown even one leaf in soil in almost 2 years!I’m so happy and grateful you helped me be brave! Almost all of my Hoya are in leca, I’ll do the rest soon. Then venture into switching other plants over. Thank you, Queen Nora!❤

Then you did something wrong because I grow it in soil and it grows like a weed. In my experience hoyas don't care much about the substrate because I have some in soil and others in semi hydro.

Thank you for your comments. Everyone has different environments and experiences. It is awesome that your experiences have been good but some of us need to explore other avenues to get our plants to thrive. At the end of the day it is about what works for each person and plant in THEIR environment.

@@AcrylDame I appreciate you pointing out the obvious lol. My Hoyas certainly weren’t happy in the soil. I had them in, pretty sure it was an oxygen issue. None of them had really great roots. If you’ve ever watched Nora‘s video and seen the roots on her Hoya, you’ll know why her video gave me hope.

@@painterlynne I meant no offense. I own about fifty hoyas some of them in really crappy soil (almost pure peat), some in aroid mix and usually no drainage, one in self watering and aroid mix (it does great!), some in pon, some in Seramis (german brand), one in Leca. Some grow fast, some grow slow, and a few not at all. Leca and Pon have given me root rot, Seramis doesn't. My favorite rooting media is also Seramis. I think one mistake people make and I also made is to underwater them. If you want growth on your Hoyas, a combination of direct sunlight (not too much though) and enough water makes them grow. I put some of them outside as an experiment and they died of cold unfortunately. Because it was very rainy, the aroid mix was constantly soaked in water. Out of curiosity I checked the roots when I threw them away. Not a single one developed root rot, they all had the most beautiful white roots.

This is SOO wrong. I grow some plants hydroponically. If your tap water doesn't contain magnesium guess what, most hydroponics fertilizers don't as well. Good luck growing plants. If you use rain water be prepared for wild pH swings. If your water is very hard also very bad. And better be prepared to measure pH and conductivity a lot. Then there's all the flushing and root rot. Soil growing is just soo much easier because soil can take care of pH and you can use organic fertilizers which are less salty. Hydroponics isn't for beginner plant parents.

Thank you for your comments. I appreciate your experience is different, and I would humbly ask you to accept that others also have different experiences based on their environment and what they are willing to do. Hydroponics is very different from semi-hydroponics (which is what I am talking about in this video). What is easy for one person can be difficult for another, but for me in my environment, my plants have proved to me time and time again that semi-hydroponics is not complicated and feedback from many people shows that for some people it really is not complicated at all.

@@TheLecaQueen Sure. Its just when I started out I ran into a lot of problems and want to warn others. I had wild pH swings and a solid hydroponics fertilizer I used (on the package it read you can't overfertilize) turned the nutrient solution into a salty soup that almost killed a few plants. Only now after a year of trial and error I seem to have pH under Control. Its really important to let the tap water rest and use phosphoric acid as your pH minus. Citric acid just doesn't cut it. Ebb and flow or dwc also seem to work better than regular semi hydro because there's more oxygen at the roots.
