Advice if you don’t want to go outside to wash the roots or you can’t go outside to wash the roots: get round coffee filters and put a bunch of holes in a round plastic take-put container. Have the dirty water filter through the coffee filter. This will help keep the vast majority of it out of your plumbing.

I find going straight from soil to leca works really well.and those roots change to water roots. It's moving from leca to soil that is harder as the plant has water roots and has to slowley acclimatise to soil so it has to stay moist and not aloud to dry out for a bit bit without causing root rot at the same time which can sometimes be difficult.
@TheLecaQueen2 жыл бұрын
That is true. Moving from leca to soil, the potting mix has to be kept alot more moist just until the roots settle in the soil.

Hi Nora, I absolutely love your videos and have been dabbling in leca, but only with cuttings that have rooted in water. I killed a few plants when transitioning them to leca because of root rot. How do you get all the soil off? Do you check later if the plant has rotting roots?
@melanieklarofficial10 ай бұрын
Do you think it’s better to buy plants that are medium size-like 6” pots for best transition from soil to leca? Or 4”? What is big enough to be well enough established but not so big as to be too acclimated to soil?
@TheLecaQueen10 ай бұрын
I think it really depends on the plant and the state of the roots. I think that is what the real issue is. I transitioned small African Violets and peperomia and the smallest ones did not do well. Same sized Hoyas have no issues. So I would say if the roots are robust enough the plant will survive. But if small this roots like peperomia, I would get a bigger plant with a more established root system.

I have another question 😊 I have purchased two bags of leca, can I soak them all at once and then store for use later on or is it best to soak just before use. Thank you

You can wash your leca and store it. I would recommend soaking it for when you need to use it and not having litres of leca having been soaking for weeks on end. I would imagine bacteria and other nasties might start growing on it and affect your plants.

I would need much more Leca because a lot of my plants are already a bit bigger in size. I had a look in Bunnings but I don’t think they have them.. Also, I went to Office Work this morning and asked them about the plastic scrap you mentioned in one of your other videos but they said they didn’t have them, never heard of them. If they did maybe long long time ago, they said. When did you get the free plastic scrap from Office Work?

Hello, thank you for watching. Some Office Works shops have the proper sheets but it seems most do not. I get mine from Amazon. I will give you the link. The scarps I was referring are the scraps from when they laminate documents and stuff like that. I suggest you get your leca from a hydroponics shop. In most cases if you buy a small bag it ends up costing a lot more than buying the 50L bag. Yes I do. I generally buy the 50L bag.

really the more and more i see about leca the more i really want leca. Basicly everything i ''dislike'' on being a plant parent has to do with soil. soil usage indoor is a huge mess, repotting is a pain in the butt and an even bigger mess. its also really heavy to transport all that new soil all the time instead of just reusing leca. got some pest? well repott again and use some new soil and make a huge mess again. and you also cant just use soil... you kind of have to make a huge science out of it by creating fancy soil mixes using like 10 different ingredients and ...storing 10 bags of ingredients in your house and... i dont know. the more and more i think about it, the more i come to the conclusion: soil is just made for outdoor plants, living in actual soil in your garden and alike. i m so tired of cleaning the entire house all the time just because i need to repot a plant or 2. in return, that makes me not wanna repot it because i know i have to clean the entire house afterwards and its just... jikes i m pretty damn sure, i will just buy a huge bag of leca soon, and order some fertilizer and then just stop buying soil and slowly transition everything to leca.

Why not just soak the dirt off.

You can do that, I just don't have the time to wait so I prefer to do it this way.

it's so weird that you use "organic matter" and "soil" interchangeably

Hard to be 100% consistent when not using a script. I hope it did not take away from the message for you.
