I would really like to maybe have a zoom sometime… I have been a Nurse for 22years and I am not sure if it’s possible to take my social security at 62 If can maybe 2 days a week for play money, have a home and a condo that I am willing to sell… but the market and interest rates are all bad… The crime and cost of living, and politics are really hard to deal with…. Hey, man...my wife and I are 58. Considering taking early retirement at 62 to 65 (depending on how things are going in America) and coming to Caye Caulker with about $3000/mo in social security and a little over $600K in cash. Not planning to relocate permanently, but to slow travel for a few years without spending any of of our $600K nut. Could put $400K of it in 1 year CD and pull in about $19K yield. Lather, rinse, repeat - $400K becomes $419K...then $438K...then $459K...could live for 3 years in paradise with $200k cash emergency fund, while adding $59K to the nut. And if we love it there and decide to stay...maybe invest $100K in a beach bar or something 🤣 (I do have a slightly irresponsible side)

Great videos! My husband and I visited Caye Caulker and Amber Gris Caye in 2006. We loved it, and are considering retiring there. Are the costs for medical care so cheap that health insurance isn't needed? For someone in their sixties, though healthy with no preexisting conditions, health care is a consideration. Excellent information, Dennis!!! Just out of curiosity, since we're looking at an 18-24 month goal, what is the rate of increase in the cost of living on A.C. or C.C? Can I expect any significant increases in any of the estimated costs over the next two years? Surely NOBODY predicted this whole COVID-19 mess and the impact of the virus on the Belizean economy may not be fully realized for a year or two...but COVID aside, is Belize becoming "rapidly" more expensive to live in or can we assume it will stay this way over the next few years? This is actually a good question. Personally I don't see the cost of living rising that much in Belize. Prices on the basics such as health care, groceries, restaurant prices are pretty consistent. I don't see any reason why the cost of living would go up (aside from the cost of real estate which is rapidly increasing in the more desirable areas).

@@DennisKayII No, the deal is to live somewhere with perfect weather year round (and there is no such thing unless you live in Hawaii, and few can afford that anymore) and do it on the cheap. If you're paying as much for rent as you would in the US, why bother moving? You can live in Florida and get fairly nice weather (for sure it rarely snows, but the humidity between March and November can be killer in most of the state and do you want to talk about hurricanes?), but it's now expensive where it used to be cheap. At least in the US you get fairly stable infrastructure, and you're familiar with the social structure, flora, and fauna.

Rents are trending upwards nationally and have risen significantly since their September 2016 rate of 1,348 U.S. dollars.

I'm aware that rents in the US keep rising; they're creating another damn bubble that will eventually burst because hey, that's what we do here. In the meantime, there's a lot of suffering. I'm a senior, I live on SS and an occasional freelance editing job, and I'm on the verge of moving into my car. $675 for rent is STILL not low enough for me to afford, but you can find that in the States in various places if you look. What I need is $450/month rent, and that's HALF my SS, which we've all been told for decades is too much; we should pay no more than a third of our income on housing. Yeah, that ain't happening. So I googled "cheapest places to live," and it came back with numbers I can't afford. Apparently I am now too poor to live almost anywhere in the world. Wonderful situation we've got here, eh?

I wonder how many of the homes on Caye Caulker date from before a hurricane split the island in two. It looks like the island is only a foot or two above sea level and would get completely over run by a storm surge. Looks like a nice place to visit but I would not want to be living there during hurricane season. Much better to live inland and at a higher elevation.

Greetings , I have been watching your channel for a while now and I do have a Question? How safe is it for expats moving and livin in Belize ? My husband and I are thinking of moving out there, buying some land probably in the stan creek, dangria area...maybe something more West... For now we are scheduled to fly in in October if everything goes well here in the States, we have some ideas and properties we are interested in checking out but we are just curious how actual atmosphere is there between the Locals and the Expats

Wife had an eye infection went to Dangriga , doc said this is bad called eye doc in Belmopan who stayed late for us to drive and see him, did a great job for $75 us dollars, medicine was another 75. I told him he works to cheap on the second appointment as he refused to charge us. Gave him an extra 50 us. Never lived in a place where healthcare borders on free, am in love with Placencia. 250,000 us house is US $20 taxes for 2 years yes twenty.

@@Zgreasewood very cool.. I'm 53 and looking to move somewhere new in the decade ahead... Belize is a place I'm looking to check out.. they say you need a car though which doesn't thrill me.. As for healthcare, just wondering more about when we age or god forbid need more serious treatments.. would probably be renting as I live day to day right now. :-)

@@diannechristino have meant friends who don't have a car, transport via bus is the norm, it is slower between towns and villages. Live in Placencia or San Pedro it is not necessary at all. Taxis go everywhere . We have a car and license is easier than the state's, a drivers licence is accepted from most countries and there is no rush to get a Bz. License, you have to have permanent residency in order to get one. You must have a current licence thou. SUGGEST, you must lcome for at least 2 weeks. It is US 100 or 200Bz to stay in the country.
